It says made in philippines. Well, with naked eye I can't really tell something is done wrong, but I guess I shouldn't expect much from the filter within this price range. That's why they cost hundreds of dollars.

Hi there!

I'm not sure about the origin of this copy really but what I can say for sure is that as soon as I opened it I noticed several dirty spots which I had to remove myself. I bought it at Amazon. I'll do some comparison shots tomorrow on daylight.

I have mounted the Hoya UV HMC (c) on my DFA 50mm 1.4 and I can say that I see a huge impact in sharpness and contrast!! It's not noticable on pictures resampled with screen resolution, but as soon as I switch to 100% view, I can clearly see a difference. I'll do some before and after pics...

Fingerprint on rear element, what to do?

As I said, I was just amazed how easily I cleaned the front element of two of my lenses, sadly can't say the same about the rear one.

One thing is certain that unlike the front one, the rear one requires dry cleaning right after wet to remove things left by the Zeiss. Did I check the front carefully? At least I didn't noticed anything. One thing which came to my mind is that I could continue to wipe with Zeiss paper until it gets dry, because it's drying out really quickly, so it might pick up remaining solution itself.

guys, happy new year!!

I've decided to not wait until 2021 and started to work with my lens. So I made a choice between some cleaning solutions and picked up a Zeiss lens cleaning wipes.

First I started with the front element. Results are just great, cleaned it perfectly and put a nice UV protector on it.

Now my headache - The rear element. I made a huge step and forgot about a tiny microscopic scratch I was talking about and started to wash out smudges.

Now, thing is, unlike the front element, the rear one leaves an alcohol residue from Zeiss wipe. Fingerprint is gone but now I'm facing another question, leave it as it is or try to remove it somehow? I removed some part with a cotton swab moistured with Zeiss fluid but I don't want to mess with entire surface.

Any ideas?

I have 99,9% IPA. Some of you guys telling me not to dillute it. Can you tell why? If nothing wrong will happen making a mixture, I'd better try 50/50 or even 70/30 concentration with clear water...

I bought some products this morning including ROR, Zeiss Lens Cleaner fluid and a cloth and some lens tissues... but I'm worried to leave the lens in this condition for a long time because these products will arrive in a week or so.

thanks a lot for help!

yes, absolutely sure that just water is out of options. Now question is whether to use qtips again. I don't think it causes scratches because otherwise I'd have them all over the whole surface I've touched. It is obvious that it will require less moves on surface using other materials like microfiber cloth or lens tissue but now I'd have to "experiment" with new things which never been used on this lens.

thanks!

Well, I bought 99.9% IPA, cotton qtips, distilled water and gloves. Prior to cleaning, just in case, contacted Pentax by email asking what to do to clean the rear element. Got email saying remove dust then use water.

I decided to listen to myself and Pentax rep to not use IPA as a cleaning solution and try to remove the fingerprint smear using just a qtip and water.

This fingerprint was there already a week. As nothing is here, not a single professional service shop to help you in such cases, I was just much worried not to let it sit there and damage the coatings. Same goes to front element, there are couple of fingerprints but first I wanted to fix rear as it's harder.

So I have started. I can't tell you how many times I used my Giosso blower to remove dust and debries, by holding the lens upside down, with some different angles. I didn't use brush, as I thought maybe it's too much contact. Started cleaning with wet qtip from center with circular motions very gently, then dry one. Couple of times this way and I have noticed it. Also noticed a tiny white speck on surface, maybe it was just a lint coming from qtip or I missed a dust particle, I immediately removed it by blower. I can't be sure that it is indeed a scratch as when I hold the lens against light it looks like scratch but when it passes light it looks like another line of smear.

Now I'm trying to take a photo of it but seems like my DFA100 cant pick it up because I can see it when the bulb light hits around it but when I try to make photo there is not enough details because of that reflecting light. I made a couple of other photos of surface at different angles but there are so many smudges it makes no sense, this tiny thing is not visible at all. I guess now I'm in real trouble because somehow I need it to get perfectly clean to go farther inspecting it. One thing is certain that I have just distributed that smudges around instead of cleaning it. The water simply not able to remove it, and the Pentax suggestion to use just water is useless along with my positive opinions regarding washing capabilities of it against an oily things. I'm writing this with my cell phone, I'll post these pictures later but I think it makes no sense as there are just hell amount of smudges.

Well, things are not that good, couldn't remove smear completely but I think I've screwed up as there is something which looks like a scratch on daylight bulb but on direct sunlight it looks like another line of smear. I'm not sure but I think it's scratched. Now I hell afraid to touch front. I knew instantly that things will go very bad when I touched the rear element with my fff finger. Take care of your gear guys but not too much because sometimes it leads to worst.

It's funny you have mentioned about the body swaying, I'm focusing that way with my DFA 100mm almost every time even at f4 or even f5, not saying f2.8 which is so narrow that I'm missing perfect focus even with a tripod. Just a tiny vibration and the focus is out. Thanks for the link by the way, I found that sometimes even at f11 the dof calculator is helpful.

First of all, just abnormally big thanks to Eric (simple1) for this beautiful lens he sent me as a gift!

Pentax M 50mm f1.7

Eric, thank you so much.

First thing I immediately noticed is that how much smoother the focus ring feels compared to any other modern lenses I have. It is just pleasure to rotate, just to do it without even taking pictures, it is that pleasing. More than that, you feel more resistance in hand when you rotate it faster. It is so good you'll want to do manual focus all time.

The aperture ring is somehow stiff, but I think it's better to be stiff than accidentally change it in the field.

I don't know about other series yet, but the build quality of this lens is just fantastic.

I'll take some good pictures soon, like it deserves :)

by the way, can you guys tell me your thoughts about focusing experiences with other M lenses or A whatever...

Sorry I didn't get the humor but that's temporary thing, fly to georgia we will then exchange with some :)

Argh.. back to the lens, I'm preparing for this operation like a surgeon in hospital.

Soft brush, microfiber cloth, IPA, distilled water, medical gloves and lot of my nerves.

Breath or not, something must be in contact with the rear element to take that fingerprint off. That's the main problem I'm afraid of.

From what you are saying, it must never be touched with anything. How to remove it then? Breath is worst idea imo, you are transferring just who knows what kind of materials including acids and etc that way
