CANON net sales = 3.401 Trillion Yen 2016
RICOH net sales = 2.063 Trillion yen 2018
NIKON net sales = 0.822 Trillion Yen 2016

RICOH looks big enough to do anything either Canon or Nikon do.

It is just a matter of will

I haven't heard of the aperture block failure in K-01. I know it is very similar to the K-30, though.

Guess I need to check my shutter count. So far, the worst problem I have had was the ePROM battery or capacitor losing its charge over periods of inactivity (weeks, not days)

I have a lot of photos taken on January 1 2012!

Pentax Mirrorless?

My experience with K-01 and K-5, K-5iis and K10 is that the K-01 is less troubled with dust and other schmutz than my other K- cameras. I think that flipping mirror really stirs thing up.

Good to see a potentially contentious thread come to an amiable conclusion. Keeping the details straight always helps, especially comparing across brands.

And the famous "Pentax exposes (a full stop-A half stop-way too much) under what i get on my (any other camera)" is only amenable to experience with Pentax.

Question: FA 77 and moon, exposure problem

From Spaceweather.com:
The rocking motions are called libration; because of libration we can observe not just 50% but rather 59% of the Moon's surface.

Just received a 18-50 Retractable DA lens.
Somewhat disappointed with the chunky size and the sticky retraction mechanism
The electric focus is fantastic, though.
Still waiting for additons to the XS line...come the messiah

Somewhere there is a series of posts regarding a rumored curved sensor by Sony.

Surely a 90mm radius would give better access to the sensor pixel wells, but the camera is beginning to look like a softball rather than a brick.

But seriously, each digital-enhanced lens has a collimating element at the rear to minimize the angle of rays as they hit the sensor. A 18mm diameter element would likely give enough spread to cover full frame curved sensors.

I had forgotten the 18-50. It does retract so it stores smaller: just bigger than the 21 DA. Thanks for mentioning it.

I Still think there is a big place for pentax to introduce a compact mirrorless with widely compatible lenses that enter the mirror box space.

Just dreaming...
About a pancake zoom that fits a 20 or 16 minimum to 40-45 maximum into the space no longer needed for the mirror and those chunky retro-focus designs it requires.

I love my K-01 but hate carrying a 21 DA with the 40 XS. Let me have a super compact pancake zoom that fits the body.

Just took my 500mm f4.5 K mount and removed the whole front cell. The set screws are only for the sighting pip and need not be touched. Front element is all in front of the sighting ring.

The threading is very fine and takes a dozen or more turns to remove the cell. When I opened mine, I could see the baffle you're talking about it appears to be plastic and is shaped with several pointed bits around the edge. I did not reach in, since mine hasn't moved. I leave for you to try it.

Please post your results...

This may not be very helpful... BUT this is very close to a telescope, in that there is nothing between the front elements and the rear element, except for the baffles you describe.

The entire front element is threaded onto the body—no set screws. It may be possible to screw off the front lens assembly and reach down the tube to secure the baffle that worries you. It is at least worth a look to remove the front lens assembly, marking its original position, of course.

Good Luck

The easy way to accelerate your exposures is to set a 3-shot bracket, with minimum exposure differences on the setting. I have found the between shot delay about the worst thing for the K-01
