Not sure about posting too much but I do check in every once in a while. I've made some good friends here when I was active way back when. The first time I was registered. You are one of them. I still remember the PMs you and I had about photography even though they are long gone along with my first registration.
And now you're a mod. Nice.

I don't grab the camera much anymore. Just did a shoot with the boy. (Eight now. Hard to believe!) But it was a long time since I shot before that.

Thanks. I saw it. I just didn't realize you couldn't have any photos in this section. (Like I said it's been a while since I've been on here.) Just wanted to wish a Merry Christmas with a sand angel is all. And up there it seems to get buried quickly.

It's all good.

Merry Christmas.

It's been like forever since I've been on here.

Just like to wish all my old comrades a very Merry Christmas.

Seems since I had one photo with a sand angel my original post was moved. So Merry Christmas. With no photo.:hmm:

For me it's fishing. Up until 1999 I was an addicted fisherman. Boat. Multiple tackle boxes. Didn't like the rods in the stores so I taught myself how to build my own. I'd get off work Friday eat dinner then about 11 tell the wife I'd see her in the morning. Then get the boat and head for Tampa Bay. If I went on Saturday it was an offshore Gulf of Mexico jaunt.
Then I parked the boat one day in 99 and there it still sits.
This year I took my 7 year old to the Skyway Fishing Pier. Little guy stayed up with me until 3 am. Still likes going even when we don't catch. He's a trooper.
So now I'm looking at a Hobie Cat 17' tandem fishing kayak.
And I'm building a new rod for me.
Refurbishing a good old rod for Little G.

Yep. Addicted again.

Initially, the SS authorities marked prisoners who were in the infirmary or who were to be executed with their camp serial number across the chest with indelible ink. As prisoners were executed or died in other ways, their clothing bearing the camp serial number was removed. Given the mortality rate at the camp and practice of removing clothing, there was no way to identify the bodies after the clothing was removed. Hence, the SS authorities introduced the practice of tattooing in order to identify the bodies of registered prisoners who had died.

Here it's about every station. I hate having to go into the store to pay. Plus it wastes a lot of time that way. I do miss the old full service stations though.

My first was probably one of those 126 s.
Then came the Agfa rangefinder
Then the K1000. Bought that with my first paycheck circa 1977. Still have it. I need to run a roll or two through it. Maybe when it cools down here I'll get her and the K10D and ist out for a shoot with the boy.

Then go fishing.

i still prefer cash for certain things. No one needs to know every single thing I buy. I started using gas cards lately. One store here every so often will run a sale if you buy $50 in food stuff you can get a $50 gas card for $40.
Gas pump skimmers are a threat so worst that could happen is I lose $25 or less since a fill up is about $25 in the Toyota. Filling up the Dakota will take almost all of that $50. Thing is if they should get any info off that card my info is not on it.

Generally with chip cards under $50 you don't sign. Over $50 you do.

Our debit cards are chipped just like credit cards. They are undersigned by Mastercard or Visa.

My point, actually the radio hosts point was that with a debit card while you are covered if theft should occur it can cause you a lot of agita. (Italian for aggravation) A check trying to clear and you have no money in your account for a period of time due to that theft. It is just safer to use credit card instead of the debit cad. I use my credit card every time. Most times I have no cash on me.

The part I can't believe is you are using a debit card. A few weeks ago I was listening to talk radio. Some financial guy. He was talking about why he insists on not having a debit card. He recommends you have only an ATM card. And his reasoning seems sound.

Why? Simple. Sure. You're covered in the event of a loss. But here is the scenario he put into place. Your info gets stolen. They wipe your account. And all the accounts linked to that. Then your mortgage/rent/electric/whatever clears during that period and it of course bounces. Now your bank will of course make good on the money. They may even wive the check fees. And they may even contact the company that got the bounced check. But alas it is an inconvenience.
So he recommends credit cards. Sure they get hacked also but if it should it won't affect your other finances. You won't bounce checks or other electronic payments. I use my CC for about everything. And I get 5% back on gas, 2% on restaurants and 1% on everything else. Since it's paid off every month it costs me nothing, makes me a bit and I am safer.

My all time favorite is the 1969 Pontiac Catalina Convertible. Mine had the 400 but I quickly blew that one up and dropped a 428 out of a 67 Grand Prix into it. Well I dropped it in after I did a few modifications to it. Won a bunch of money racing that car.

If I ever get the finances I'm getting another one to wrench on with Little G.

I used to dive a lot years ago. Over the years things did change a whole heck of a lot. My father taught me when I was a kid. He was a rescue diver in the air force. I still have his old Aqualung two hose regulator. I had a lot of fun both free diving (snorkeling) and with tanks. Most of the diving I did was for lobster and clams in Long Island Sound. Most of the time we couldn't use the tanks for lobstering and it was all surface dives. Used to stay in the water at least 6 hours at a time. Man that was fun times.
Haven't been diving in years though I was looking at new gear just for surface diving. I used to get about 45 feet down. All my rubber equipment is long melted (literally) away. I can't believe the prices of masks and fins. $200-300 for a mask! Youch!
Alas with breathing problems I am not willing to spend all that money for a mask when I am not even sure I can hold my breath long enough anymore.
I'd love to get back into SCUBA just to visit the reefs here to see some of the fish we keep in tanks. And also to get some lionfish.

Have fun.

I had the same problem with sulfur in our well in my last house. Wound up adding a chlorinator and filter to get rid of the smell and some of the iron. Had a softener too but I hated the feeling of soft water and soap. Yuck.

I was on here years ago. Then I asked to have my account deleted and wound up coming back a while later so my post count belies my actual time here. I do keep in touch with a couple of friends here though. In my case I just got burned out. Well that and fish tanks. I own 60+ and had over 40 set up and running. Down to about 30 now as I prepare to take all of them down to revamp the entire fish house. That being said I hang more on planted tank and aquarium forums. And in reality I only hang on one of those with regularity.

When I was here I was shooting every day if I could. And when Little G came along I would go to Ft Desoto and do shoots with him. Been 2 years since I've done any serious photography though. Well I did take some at my nieces wedding in June. Hard to believe he's 7 already. Second grade. And my best fishing partner. He stays with me at the Skyway Pier. We stay there from 9 pm until 3 am on Friday then he wants to go back Saturday night.

"The water left a brown residue that has a foul smell. The resulting distilled water has to be distilled a second time to make it taste like spring water that has been distilled once. I don’t know what the brown residue is,"

After reading this I stopped reading. Anything he says after is worthless. What is the "brown residue"?
Keeping tropical fish water is a very important factor. Water quality is key. Any water you drink that tastes good has dissolved solids. TDS. Total Dissolved Solids. Then it needs to be broken down into what those solids are. The ph of the water will also have a factor in what minerals are in that water. Hard water we would expect a lot of calcium and magnesium. Well water we know will have a lot of bacteria. If you use untreated well water look in your toilet tank. See all that brown?
Then of course in addition to ph we need to look at Gh, KH, DGH for just the basics.

One thing I can guarantee. There is stuff in every water we drink. Some good. Some not so good.

We use RO for tropical fish. Mostly we try to get it as pure as possible so that we can control all of those aspects of the water. If we are breeding harder fish we sometimes we need a low ph with few minerals. Some fish require the exact opposite. RO allows us to control all of that.

I'd be more worried about what the municipal water company is adding. Fluoride, chlorine, chloramine etc.

Our local station did a breakdown with info from the lottery office.
Lump sum you get about 500 mil. Government confiscates almost 200 mil.
So you only get 300 mil for you.

What would I do? Take 100 mil for me and some family members. Live off the interest of that.
The rest?

The K10D Club!

Sign me up for the K10 club. I joined PF the first time when I first got mine. I was looking at the Canon back then and dropping 25 g for a system to replicate (like canon can replicate old Pentax lenses) the lenses I have in Pentax. Then I saw the K10. I've never looked back. I used to do a lot of photography for work and took thousands of Little G in the last 6 years but alas not much the last year. While I would love a new FF funds aren't there and really, would it be any better than the K10 for what I shoot now? I doubt it. I love panos and the 10 is just fine for that. When we got out large format in at work I finally got to print out a couple of them. Both were 20 shots each and hours of PS putting it together by hand. I knew the K10 was great at 11 x 14 but it's still good at 8 feet. They're hanging in our shop and I get a lot of compliments on them. Most don't believe a K10 took them.
