Shake reduction in video was surprising

SR on a tripod can backfire and therefore generally shouldn't be used.

Also, the SR in video mode is purely electronic (on all models after the K-5), so it goes by the image itself rather than the movements of the sensor. This would explain what you were seeing.

A simpler camera

No. Due to the rise of smartphones, I don't think there would much be demand in the camera market for a camera that couldn't go above and beyond in as many ways as possible. For novice users, there's so much automation available by default (even on many high-end camera models) that users can pretty much forget about all the buttons and options until they stop feeling overwhelmed.

Several years ago Nikon tried releasing a "simpler" camera when they came out with the Df- and it got grilled for not having video support, because there really is no reason not to include a feature when the hardware (and product price) supports it. The same case can be made for all the software bells and whistles that modern cameras have picked up over the years.

Dynamic Range to ISO comparisson K-1 Vs K-1 Mark II

Hmm, this makes me question the testing methodology. How can the DR be higher at ISO 800 than the camera's own ISO 200?

The step pattern observed, however, is interesting.

Beginner question about shutter speed
Posted By Adam

Is the camera in P mode? Look at the mode dial. The wheels don't do anything in the default "green" mode. (the article I linked above shows the mode dial)

If you're in P mode and the wheels don't do anything, go to the camera's main menu, select the wrench tab, and use the reset setting toward the end to reset the camera to default settings.

Beginner question about shutter speed

Option 1A: while in P mode, simply turn the front e-dial (or rear e-dial, depending on your settings - look through the viewfinder and make sure the shutter speed gets underlined). This will put the camera in "Hyper Program" mode, which allows you to manually set the shutter speed while the camera chooses the corresponding shutter speed.
Option 1B: put the camera in Tv mode and use the e-dial to change the shutter speed. Same effect as 1A.
Option 1C: put the camera in M mode and manually set both the aperture and shutter speed using the e-dials

This should help:

You might also benefit from Yvon's eBook (the K-50 version is nearly identical to the K-30):
Pentax eBook Downloads - Now on PF! (purchase here for instant access) - PentaxForums.com

Option 2A: Same as 1A, but use the opposite e-dial
Option 2B: Put the camera in Av mode and use the e-dial to change the aperture. Same effect as 2A.
Option 2C: Same as 1C

You may need to change your metering mode. Matrix metering is the way to go in most situations. If you are using a manual lens, use live view as viewfinder matrix metering is otherwise unavailable with such lenses.

Or, apply exposure compensation.

Just start from the beginning of the guide I linked above :)

Good luck!

It looks like the seller let the listing expire instead of marking it as "sold". I've moved it to the sold section, so you should be able to access it now :)

Pentax A 15mm f3.5 vs. Samyang 14mm f2.8

With the possible exception of geometric distortion, I'd say the 14mm is better optically. Modern ultra-wide designs are way ahead of the old 15mm, sadly.

I feel like it could either be related to the file resolution, or maybe the 4:3 aspect if the software is bad. Have you tried scaling the input images down before proceeding to eliminate that as a possibility?

Perhaps the camera has gotten less tolerant over time? I wouldn't be too worry as long as the other set of batteries works :) 12 years from a DS is quite impressive!

Canon 80D to K1 transition - lens choices

This is a decent enough lens, but are you aware that it's a fisheye?

If you want rectilinear coverage in a zoom, the 15-30mm doesn't currently have much competition.

This is one of my personal favorites.

Also, maybe throw in a prime such as the phenomenal D FA* 50mm F1.4?

Pentax K-1 II Firmware v1.02 Released

Pentax has done the right thing by providing all updates for recent bodies in a zip file (rather than in an OS-specific executable). Any issues with the extraction and file transfer are thus generally user error.

I've been keeping an eye out for threads about installation troubles and all the issues I've come across are listed in this troubleshooting guide:
Pentax Firmware Update Guide - Tutorial Videos | PentaxForums.com

If there's anything I've missed, please let me know and I will update it.

Hmm, that sounds like a little long. Depending on location, I've experienced their international shipments to take 1-3 weeks. All the shirts I ordered for our winners have already been delivered.

It wouldn't hurt to contact Teespring to see if they can track it down, or resend it if needed.

B&H has recognized this and has customer service dedicated to Brazil:

They once had a version of the site for Brazil, but I believe this has since been consolidated.

As for service, I believe Precision handles requests for all of South America as well, though I could be wrong.

This is pretty typical for remaining stock of discontinued products which are in low supply and low demand. Eventually someone will really want one and snatch it.

645D ISO range
Posted By Adam
Replies: 4

You probably have highlight correction on- this will double the effective minimum ISO. Disabling it should enable access to ISO 100, as long as you also have the expanded ISO range custom function enabled.

If you ask me, gating ISO ranges behind an "expanded" setting is a bad idea. There's a reason this was discontinued in favor of allowing the full range by default on newer cameras :)

Probably next to none- have you seen a FF 11mm? But based on prior lenses, I'd be willing to bet that it might give some coverage later on in the zoom range.

I'm sure someone will pick it up just because of how popular that lens used to be. Shame Sigma decided to cut it for Pentax.

why upgrade from K-50 to K-5 or K-3, etc. ?
Posted By Adam
Replies: 7
The main reasons would be durability and burst shooting (in the case of the K-5), and image quality on top of that (in the case of the K-3). Generally speaking, these "flagship" cameras are built to higher standards than the consumer line; this includes a shutter rated for 100k/200k actuations (respectively) and metal body.

There's a pretty big jump in terms of usability and image quality when comparing the K-3 to the K-50. One of my favorite things is the improvement to the white balance and the ergonomics. This review should shed light on a lot of the other features:
Pentax K-3 Review - Introduction | PentaxForums.com Reviews

Other alternatives to consider would be the K-70 or KP. These both have even better image quality than the K-3 and further improve on the user interface. The K-70 is basically a modernized version of the K-50, while the KP is essentially a K-70 with the durability of the K-3.
