I definitely like having video on a dslr.
I personally find the video on the k-x to be pretty impressive, especially when combined with some nice lenses.

If video is really a big issue for you and you want it in a d-slr form factor, then maybe go with a canon 5d mkII?

welcome to the forums (and thanks for the welcoming earlier !)

I own a K-x and you really can't go wrong with it, definitely one of the best if not the best entry level's out there.

I haven't been shooting for all that long but I think it's wise to put off buying lenses for a little while to get an idea for what sort of lens you would "need"

The kit lens is pretty good as far as kit lens go, and should give you a good range to start with.
If you find you have a hard time fitting your subject into the frame, a wide angle lens is a good starting point.
If you feel you need more range, then telephoto.
If you end up needing more speed, than a nice fast prime.

Basically what I did is buy myself some old pentax manual lenses.
and it gave me a good starting point to figure out what lenses I use the most.
Lenses are expensive so you want to make sure you'll use them.
Bought the old k-mounts for about 20$ each, and the optics are pretty good too.

Hope this helps, and looking forward to your photography.

I'm bad with introductions, but I thought I'd get done with the formalities and start contributing to this awesome forum.
My name is Luc, I'm from Quebec Canada and just recently started photography as a hobby after years of putting it off for one reason or another.

Holding a pentax in my hands for the first time is basically what made me take the plunge and I've been loving every moment of it.

I've been (for lack of a better word) "lurking" the pentax forums now and then and thought I'd might as well join the community.
Looking forward to talking photo with some fellow pentaxians.
