Weather it sells or not, I think it’s an embarrassment. There are other improvements that can be made to the KX that would increase its potential.
This is just silly.

Does this tramsmit any faster than you can just pull out the SDHC card and plug into you PCs reader?

What if you shoot raw? Dont you still need to process the files on the PC before viewing them?

Mine did something almost exactly like that once when I removed the memory card while the camera was on and displaying an image from the card on the LCD.

The camera (Just a computer with a lens) needed a reboot to clear the error. Power on and off, or remove the batteries for a few seconds.

Where are the in store Pentax vendors?

OK, I guess your right.

For a tiny, and market share limited company like Pentax, it would be waste of time and resources for multiple major retailers to actually sell their products in their brick and mortor stores.

Oh-well

The advantage is increased sales and revenue.
I wouldnt call the KX a "slow moving" product. How do you define slow moving?
I dont stand around Best Buy for hours - but I cant imagine the people shopping there are sweeping up the D90s.

There are 3 Best Buy locations within 15 miles of my home. NONE of them are "overflowing" with DSLR camera products. Actually the DSLR space is the cheapest least well produced area in the camera dept. There are more sales staff and security around the pocket POS cameras than around the Nikon D90s and D5000s. I cant imagine how having KX teathered to a metal post connected with a wire cable stuck in there would pose any type of space issue at all. Maybe the minimum wage camera guy would have to learn about another product.

Cant imagine a product manager saying "Sales in the DSLR area are OK, lets just leave it alone"

YUP - dedicated camera stores and single location specality stores carry Pentax stuff, but the major stores with a regional or national location dont.

Too bad ...

Why are there so few brick and mortar Pentax product vendors? If any?

I recently joined the ranks of DSLR owners with the purchase of a KX. I have had the opportunity to use a Nikon D90 and a D5000. Also took a small about of shots with a Cannon product that was priced around $800, don’t remember the exact model designation.

After looking at the captured images and reviewing the price points, I went with the KX. I think it’s an excellent camera.

I am just amazed by the lack of vendors for Pentax products. I tested out a KX that was ordered by a friend from Costco. I also ordered mine there due to their 90 day full return policy. Now even Costco doesn’t carry the KX.

I see Nikon D3000s and D5000s, Canon Rebels in Sears, Kmart, Electronics Expo (Used to carry the KX, not any more) Best Buy, PC Richards, Macys, 6th Ave Electronics, Walmart (has Pentax stuff on line but not in store) and Target.

No Pentax stuff………

K-x over D5000. Am I wrong?

Lots of good detailed information here in this thread!

I just brought a memory card to an Electronics Expo in my area, took a D5000 and KX around the store and outside the front with the sales person, took a bunch of images with both. Each had the standard kit lens. Maybe 70 each. Examined the images at home in my leisure. Both on my PC and on my plasma screen.

I liked the image quality of the KX better, the simplicity of its menu system and control layout. The KX was smaller and easier to handle. The AA batteries were a home run. The Nikon replacement battery was $65 at the same store. At the time the KX also had a rebate.

2000 images later, a whole bunch of lenses and accessories added – I don’t have any complaints about the KX.

My KX purchased from Costco came with 2 PNY 2GB sdhc cards that dont even have the rating printed on the label.

The worked fine in continous shooting, took 15 frames - no issue at all. Didnt do any video yet though.
