Film & Slide copying w/ K-1

Read my post above. You can easily modify the camera connection to work with a DSLR. Press the cable release to stop down the lens but not enough to actuate the camera, press Green Button for exposure, then press cable release fully in. Here is my setup with 27cm extension. The bud was 3-4 mm across.

Yes it works with a 50mm standard or Macro lens. You need to add a 12 mm extension to the front of the bellows to connect to the K-1. You can modify the cable release by using some heat shrink tubing and a small button in line press switch to convert the release from mechanical to electrical to operate the K-1. The choice of lens is also governed by how much magnification you want. For extreme macro I use a Tamron 90mm macro lens with up to 27cm of extension. Photographing flowers at this magnification pixel shift is of no use as nature is too fuzzy to gain a pixel shift sharp image, or so I have found.

Thanks KrazyKat, yes I did use PayPal. I am currently using ebay conflict resolution process to sort this out. I have responded to the seller with the photo showing the difference in the contacts. I hope I can resolve this as I like the little Meiki flash, well built and capable.

Miniu Meiki MK 320 TTL Speedlite Flash for K-1

Hi, I ordered one of these small TTL flashes for my K-1 as a replacement for the lack of built in flash. The item received was labeled MK 320-P but the box and instructions were for Panasonic/Olympus cameras and would only work on manual on my K-1 and K-3. No TTL and there was obviously no communication between camera and flash. emailed seller via ebay and there response was that my flash is the correct one for Pentax..

Looking at the Meiki flash contacts compared to my 360FGZ there is an obvious mismatch which would explain the no TTL result, see photo.

Meiki website is Mini Meike MK 320 TTL Adjustable Tilt Swivel Head LCD Flash Speedlite FOR Pentax | eBay

Has anyone else had a similar experience with this flash?

K-1 for wildlife / birding ?

Sure, one can capture the occasional odd bird or two with Pentax equipment, but I know no serious birder who shoots with Pentax.

Pentax K-3, Sigma 150-500 OS lens is a great combination. You have a K-3II so you are half way to becoming a serious Pentax Birder.

How has the K3 worked out for you?

Succinct as usual Rob. I sometimes wonder if there really is a difference between film and CMOS sensor results with the older lens designs. I will lurk on the sidelines as far as FF is concerned.

I have two K3s, use them continually and am more than happy with the results. I have no interest in FF.

16Gb Flu Card Pro AU$99 - Australia

I emailed CRK complaining about the price after paying $199 plus P&H for the card about a month ago. My card was in the first shipment to arrive in Oz. Received this interesting reply from Clem Kennedy. Looks like retail price collusion on a global scale is the game.

"Hi David,

The original price ($200) was set in-line with our instructions. This was suppose to be a globally competitive price.

Unfortunately the US market broke ranks and set a very low retail price of $99.

Due to a large number of inquiries we had no choice but to follow suit here locally as well.

The US market has been warned over their actions, and I am assured this situation will not occur again in the future.
Kind regards,

Clem Kennedy

If you had pre-ordered you would have paid $199 plus P&H. I did and I have emailed a complaint to CRK. It will be interesting to see what comes back.

CRK in Australia are shipping the card $199 ouch. Works fine with Chrome, Firefox and Safari. With Chrome and Firefox on a PC shrink the browser to portrait size to get the full Remote functions working..

I am using Elite Pro v9.1.1 Build 1563 (64bit) for PC. It reads K-5IIs DNG files OK but not K-3 as they said. I guess the Mac was moduled ahead of the PC. No big deal I also use LR 5.

I recently updated to DxO Optics Pro 9 which supports the K-3. However, it does not support DNG files. I emailed DxO and got the following response: "Unfortunately, DxO Optics Pro cannot read Adobe DNG files. We are currently working on the module for .DNG files for the K-3, and it should be available soon."

Hope this info helps.

We'll said Rob, but we buy our cameras for lots of 'good' reasons than the third decimal point in pixel peeping.

Thanks John, I was walking along a jetty and the pelican just popped up and over. It was a quick reaction shot that worked. I wish they all did!!

I've had my IIS for two months now and I just keep getting pleasantly surprised at the IQ. The only problems I've had with moire are acute angles to corrugated iron sheeting and the mesh in fine shade cloth both of which I could remove or reduce significantly through LR4 and scaling.

Regards,

David
