@ Enemix : first time I read something about Sicor, but I trust you easily as you shot the beast.
Thanks for the pics from Sweden. Is it cold, there ? Here in Belgium we're wet through.

Differences in low iso pics are obvious and, I'd say, what I was expecting ; but I'm surprised with the differences between the 2 competitors in high iso shots (moiré - test charts).
A very interesting review. Thanks a lot.

Suggestion AA battery FAQ

Y'oure right, of course.
But you just gave a good answer.
There are a lot of questions leading to this answer.
What I suggest is listing the frequently asqued questions, not just sticking an answer that makes sense for those who know how to deal with AAs.

Just read some threads about AA batteries powered cameras, and you'll find it clear because you're familiar with those issues.
But think you're new to such cameras and needing to know why your new Pentax DSLR only gets some 40 shots with AA's...
Then, you start searching across the threads and I'm sure you'll be confused, because you'll have answers like the one you suggest... and many more...

"I use 2900 mAh XYZbrand AA batteries for one year and my camera is working fine."
"Throw away those crappy NiMHs and stick with disposables."
"Get R-CRV-3 batteries..."
"I've the same issue and thought the camera is defective."
"Get Eneloops with the Eneloop charger."
"See this thread, it's discussed." (287 posts !)

a.s.o.

Then you'll start your own thread... and get the same bunch of confusing answers.

There's a thread about this, sticked just near the top of this page :

(And numerous threads everywhere on PF about AA batteries.)

There are so many threads and hundreds of posts on PF asking the same questions about AA batteries and receiving nearly always the same bunch of confusing answers...
Il think it would be useful having an AA battery FAQ.

It's nearly 1 Kg ! It's not bad at all, but it's 300mm on an APS-C DSLR. And the rear of the lens is verry narrow...
Better for shooting film with an old Praktica !

Attaching M42 adapter permanently to a lens

I agree with that.
I don't see any need to glue the adapter. I own 20+ screw mount lenses, and they never unscrew form the adapter (and if they did it wouldn't be any dangerous).

Lenses designed for Kiev cameras look impressive on a small DSLR !
Are those pictures post-processed in some way ? Are they jpg straight from the camera ?

 Don't take offense. I'm laughing because I own a nearly 4 years old K100D and each time Pentax offers a new (and better) model, I'm looking for good reasons not buying it !
The K-x hadn't the AF points in the VF, the K-7 wasn't good enough at high ISO settings, the K-20... was expensive, the K-5... will be expensive too. And the K-r ? Well, the K-r... has no top LCD !

Serious red !

This one with Helios-44M-4, nearly WO (and the operator in the glass). Hard focusing ! No p.p. , just downsized.

I own a black one, but it didn't impressed me. The silver early version is said to be better. (The lens condition is something to consider too.)
Maybe someone who compared the different versions will give you better infos.

The K-X is better managing pictures of red flowers than the K100D.

Here's one made with a very cheap pancake lens (Industar 50-2) :

Let me say it's nicely focused ! With such a reduced DOF, it's not that easy to do, and children never stay in place !

Gary, what's the old manual lens you used on your K100D and that firstly refused stopping down ?

Well, I know f2 gives very reduced DOF... But I don't know why with the three Helios-44 I own my K100D gives me the "focus confirm" info even when the picture is obviously OOF.
When I've some time to install a tripod and make some little tests, I'll check the Helios-44 behaviour at f2 more carefully, and compare it with the S-Tak f1.8/55.

Something else with the Helios-44...

I had a H-44M for years, when I bought my first DSLR (nearly 4 years ago), a K100D. I didn't often use it with film cameras, mostly because I got better results with the lovely S-Tak 1.8/55. (Burning 35mm film has a cost, and I remember I didn't experiment a lot...)
Of course, the DSLR allowed me playing with lenses at any aperture, so I began having fun with old M42 prime lenses.
My Helios-44M was really soft at its widest apertures, and I thought I had a poor sample. I now own a second 44-M and a 44-M4, and both behave like my first sample.
When playing with my "standard film primes", I noticed my K100D gave me the "focus confirm" info much more quickly with those Helios-44s than with most of my other MF lenses ! It's sometimes beeping repeatedly !
It seems the lens is "fooling" the focus help feature.
Is it a well known issue ?

I'm sure 1,5 mm is way too big. Those bearings are probably no more than 1 mm thick and a pain to get back in place when reassembling the lens.
