FWIW every other site I've participated in that has had this function saw it abused frequently. The positive/negative ability will create cliques of like-minded people who feed off each other and detract from others. YMMV.

Indeed. The greatest threat known to humanity.

It's been known to be fatal in sufficient quantities.

Good point. I tried checking snopes, but then I saw this:

Hi Brian,

Just fill out the "contact us" with a request to be able to submit photos.

I believe my request was something along the lines of:

"Hello, I'm very interested in submitting photos for consideration. Could you let me know how to get started. Thanks! - Matt."

They got back to me with an artist code in about two days. I have heard from others that they waited quite some time before trying a second or even third time. Perhaps I got lucky.

Regards,

Matt.

Are you using Firefox? My work computer has Firefox set up with the most outrageous internet security settings. Even clicking "remember me" does nothing (presumably Firefox immediately dumps the cookie, or refuses it). At work if I'm doing anything lengthy here I will use IE. YMMV.

It seems that photos get put into queue rather randomly at times. When I have time I actually enjoy sitting down for what I call a marathon voting session - about 20 to 30 minutes looking carefully at each photo. I think it's made me a better photographer - when I'm composing an image I sometimes think to myself, "wait a minute, I saw something like this and though it would look better if I did X". It also seems the more I participate the faster things move along.

I really like the train depot (?) picture.

I got my seventh in, and it's also the first I've gotten accepted that was taken with my new (to me) K20d. I haven't submitted anything in about four weeks now... need more time in the day/week/month/year. ;)

It got by me. I knew something was up immediately - but not what. The reflection was not as subdued as it should be. Of course, after reading your post that's because it's not the reflection at all. :)

That was the last image I voted on (and for) in my marathon vote session yesterday. Great image - when I view it I'm not sure which way is up and it's intriguing. It would definitely "stop me in a gallery".

I'm pretty sure frames are automatically a disqualifier but I may be mistaken.

I agree that the frame really adds to the impact of that image though. Nicely done Zav.

Nice captures. I like #1 the best... its normal for us to see photos of the bird flying with it's head up, it's more interesting to me to see him looking for prey/surveying the ground.

I'll ditto the compliment. A lot of great photos made it in. I'm batting 0/5 since I had a few approved myself, and as far as what gets approved, it seems the stuff I'm expecting to be declined makes it, rather than the stuff I'm hopeful for. Ah well. Such is life!

Poll: How do you like your color photographs?

Most of the time, I try to have PP only adjust to more closely resemble what I saw with my own eyes. Sometimes that's not the most saturated or contrasty image and I am fine with that. As another post pointed out, it's all an interpretation - even what the camera captures is not "real", it's what the camera's sensor detected at that moment.

Great shots, all of them.

What are the subjects of the first and last of the 1st post?

I don't think I've seen them before, and I'm not much of a birder so I'm clueless.

I can't speak for where you're at, but here the 3G is available only in black, the 3G-S is available in black or white. So perhaps that's the rub.

Looking forward to reading about your thoughts on the Kx.

I'm sorry you've had a bad experience. I'm sure a complaint to Ebay will rectify the partial refund issue. Their policy is quite clear, items must be in stock for the duration of the listing.

Using one deactivates the other. They could clarify that statement a bit. They're trying to say that even if your body has built in stabilization, you can use theirs, what they left out, is that it's one or the other.

Edited to add:

The U.S. site does a better job (only slightly, emphasis added):

Sigma Corporation adds unique, anti-shake technology to award-winning 17-70mm lens
‘Ultimate standard lens’ now available in Canon, Nikon, Pentax, Sony and Sigma mounts

Sigma Corporation, a leading researcher, developer, manufacturer and service provider of some of the world’s most impressive lines of lenses, cameras and flashes, is pleased to announce its newly upgraded 17-70mm F2.8-4 DC Macro OS HSM lens.

This large aperture, standard zoom lens contains state-of-the-art enhancements, including the company’s own Optical Stabilization (OS), anti-shake technology that offers the use of shutter speeds approximately four stops slower than would otherwise be possible. Once again, only Sigma has made it possible for Pentax and Sony shooters to utilize an anti-shake system in either the lens or the camera body.
