Nice shot! I have two black cats that are frequent subjects for lens testing and just "because they're there." Black cats are a challenge but I hadn't considered HDR. Hmm...

Hi all. I spent last weekend in Seoul, Korea, where I spent a wonderful 3.5 years starting in mid-2008. I loved living in Seoul and it's still hard to leave (I bought my first Pentax DSLR, a K200D at a duty free shop at Incheon Airport!). Yesterday was Chuseok in Korea (a bit like Thanksgiving in the U.S.). Typically everything in Seoul is less busy around Chuseok. The down-side was that our favorite restaurant was closed for the weekend...

1, 2 and 4 were taken at a parade in Insadong, which is a pretty touristy area. 3 was in Bukchon, which is famous for its traditional houses (Hanok). Hanbok, the traditional dress that the girls were wearing, are available for rent in the area; wearers of traditional dress are given free admission to palaces etc. in the area and it makes for a very cool experience and provides great photo ops. The last photo is Namdaemun, also known as Sungnyemun, the old south gate of the city. This gate was burned by an arsonist in early 2008, and the entire time I lived in Seoul it was hidden behind barriers while under reconstruction.

All photos were taken with my K-5 and DA 16-85 zoom (the only lens I brought on this trip). If you can only take one lens this is a good one...

Hi all. Had some tiny ants in my kitchen yesterday so had to get out the macro. The first shot is just to show scale. The second shows the little guys (and one slightly larger one) trying to get some tiny morsel into the even tinier gap in the tile grout from whence they emerged (you can kind of see the gap in the first photo, right at the corner).

Thanks Tony! I love my DA 70. The weekend of the handover celebration was dreary and wet and I almost stayed home. There weren't many people at this event on a Sunday but I was glad I went. No crowds! I'm facing a similar dilemma today. Itching to go take some photos in the rain...

A lion costume at a celebration of the 21st anniversary of the handover of Hong Kong to China. These are two-person costumes. This one was a static display, but the dancers do get on pedestals like this, which always looks risky!

Taken at Robinson Preserve in Bradenton, FL. These tree-climbing crabs are very shy. Usually right when I was ready to take a photo they would scamper away. I got a lot of "almost" photos...

Thanks Vaskebjorn! I have a soft spot for the homely wood stork, but I think I like the Ibis picture better. I spent a lot of time adjusting the focus on my various lenses last month and I seem to have gotten the DA*300 pretty close!

Hi all. I'm just back from my summer holiday in the U.S. Visited the Gulf Coast of Florida, Austin Texas and Seattle Washington. The first photo here was taken in Austin - there is a bridge on Congress Ave under which a huge bat colony makes its home. People gather at dusk to watch them emerge in their thousands. It's very cool! The next photos are an American White Ibis, a Brown Pelican (in mid gulp) and a Wood Stork in Florida. All photos were taken my K5. The first with my DA 16-85 and the last three with my DA*300.

Hi all. Last Monday was the 21st anniversary of the handover of Hong Kong from the UK to China. It was a rainy weekend but there were some celebratory activities at Victoria Park, including demonstrations of dragon costumes and the people that perform in them. There was a group of boys practicing without costumes and it was entertaining to watch for a while. The dragon was a static display. It's a two-person costume, which is why the boys were practicing in pairs. All taken with my K-5 and 70mm Ltd.

Hi all. A great week for POTW! I have a soft spot for wood storks. Fantastic dandelion, great tulips, two of the prettiest airplanes in service today and great band photos (the K-1 is still a couple of years out for me, but wow...).

I went to Yangshuo China last weekend. Stunning scenery but it was HOT. All of these were shot with my K-5 and 15mm ltd (which is odd, since most of the weekend I had my 16-85 on the camera...). The pano was stitched using Microsoft Image Composite Editor. A first for me but Photoshop Elements would not blend the photos. I'm quite impressed with the Microsoft product!

Ok, out of the 1500 photos I took during my week in Bhutan I suppose there a few more I'm willing to share!

1. A fire started on the hill in Punakha shortly after our arrival and it burned for a couple of days.
2. While walking back from a temple we encountered a group of school girls on their way home. They were adorable.
3. There was a dog sacked out on a pedestal near this prayer wheel and when I went to snap a shot the kid stepped in and posed. A better picture!
4. Punakha Dzong (fortress) is widely regarded as the most beautiful in Bhutan.
5. No trip to Bhutan is complete without a hike up to Tiger's Nest!

Hi all! And Kung Hei Fat Choi! It's the end of the Chinese New Year's long weekend here in Hong Kong. We went to a parade on Friday night and for a hike yesterday on Peng Chau. The first three photos are on Peng Chau - incense at a temple, morning glory in a junk heap and a strange "beware of dog" sign (I don't understand the significance of the apple). The last two are from the parade.

All K-5. 1 & 2 with FA 100mm F2.8WR, 3 with DA 16-85mm and 4 &5 with DA 70mm.

DA 15mm polarizing filter

My two-cents' worth: That lens takes amazing photos in all kinds of sunlight without seeming to suffer much from the effects of polarized light; it's one of the wonderful things about that lens. So in addition to the significant limitations of using a CPL on a lens that wide, it's really superfluous in this case.

Nice critters and winter scenes!

I went to the 10,000 Buddhas temple in Sha Tin, New Territories yesterday. Lots of almost-life-size Buddhas on the way up and hundreds, if not thousands, of little ones inside the temple. Monkeys on the grounds that are rumored to steal your stuff if you're not careful...

All taken with my K-5. The temple with a smc DA-15, monkey with smc DA-70 and the Buddhas with HD DA 16-85.

I don't think I have EVER used the Auto tone function without immediately undoing. Odd how such a basic function was so useless for so long.

My relatively long-standing LR loyalty was seriously dented by my recent upgrade (5 to 6) experience. Pretty heavily invested at this point though...
