Maybe a new model named the Pentax "X-Mas" with all the new trimmings: Fast 50+ AF focusing points, Pixel shift, 26-28MPs, Astro/GPS module, fill-in flash, 2 Sd card bay, flash synch, weather proof magnesium body, and a price point under $1,500.00...…..

pentax doesn't leak much, and even people who say they know are often totally wrong with time predictions. i wouldn't put much credence in a fb post. some things are roadmapped, some things seem to drop out of nowhere. either wait or don't... no one cares.... no one should care anyway. go to another brand, try some things! really... besides roadmapped lenses, you don't even know what you're waiting for anyway. i got sick of being curious and bought a canon 80d and mp-e 65mm to have a dedicated macro setup.... and if those were great, maybe expand to other canon products. guess what... they were NOT great. k-3 and a beat up dfa50 macro on 30 year old extention tubes where better. sold the canon stuff after a couple weeks, and i think i even made $40 re-selling on ebay. it was nice to try though, and glad i did. i would like a crop sensor that's as clean as the k-1 is at iso 100... especially when boosting shadows.... maybe a k-p would be it... dunno. i'd love to borrow one, but not something that's urgent.

Not to worry! I think that Santa and his elves (and Pentax Pixies) have opened a new production plant in the Canadian high Arctic. New winter-ized cameras and lenses will be rated to minus 50 degrees C.

When the mailbox opens this season, requests for the new gear for may be sent to Santa:

North Pole

Canada

Santa letter program | Our company | Canada Post

;);)

(sorry, couldn't resist)

The K-01 was perhaps the best example of this...
Nobody bought them until they went on clearance and then everyone seemed to be snapping them up...

I Just finished reading page 7 of this thread, and I can see that there are at least 17 pages.

Is it possible that there is more talk about "no new camera" than there would have been if there was one?

Get a used camera while you are waiting. A K5 II, K3, K3 II, KP or even a K70 would be a step above what you have right now and would allow you to continue shooting.

The wooden grips are neither here nor there. The sensor performance of the KP is a stop better than your current camera and it isn't that expensive considering the features it offers -- 800 new or 600 used is a decent deal from what I can see.

The reality is that if you buy a used camera for a decent price you can resell it pretty easily when the new flagship comes out and lose minimal funds. At the same time, are you really prepared to plunk down 1500-ish dollars for a new flagship APS-C camera?

As I said earlier. The obvious thing for Ricoh to do would be to show a prototype flagship ASP-C camera during the Centennial celebrations in late 2019 with a release flagged for somewhat later in 2020. And to then show a more complete camera at CP+.

Space is cool but I have not been waiting around with a hobbled K50 for 3 years for Ricoh Pentax to do some expensive wooden grips for an unpalatable camera (in my opinion anyway) and almost annual iterations of a selfie stick camera ( although I concede that the GR is cool, although unnecessary for me) I want to buy a performance SLR camera that is comfortable to hold, can handle video at least as good as a 6 year old Cell phone, and can deliver the image quality that got me into Pentax in the first place. I seriously doubt that I am the only one.

When shooting shorebirds, I was using TAv mode with a shutter speed of 1/1000. Depend on sunlight, my ISO ranged from 600 to 6000. Regardless of ISO needed, my KP system focused plenty fast for my needs. I didn't compare the results to cropping.

I refuse to spend that much on gear, on the grounds that I don't wanna and that I wouldn't be taking any better pictures anyway.

It's such a great little lens (and the M series look aesthetically gorgeous).
Darker areas that with current sensors are very easily lifted... at f 2.8 or smaller you won't get vignetting and at 2 or 1.7 you probably don't want corner detail anyway so you don't care about losing some in post. Aberrations, maybe for critical work it will be problematic, but automatic correction has also come a long long way.

Isn't it interesting, how such a Canon lens gets positive press and reviews, while our D FA* 50mm f/1.4 gets negative press and reviews? ;)

It is a 28-70 f2 zoom and it costs 2800 dollars and weighs 1430 grams. Would you really have the funds and the desire to shoot something like that? I shoot with the Pentax DFA 24-70 f2.8 and it weighs 780 grams and it still gets a bit heavy at the end of the day.

Anyway, I'd prefer that Pentax reserve the faster than f2.8 lenses for the primes. :)

I doubt it. Canon and Nikon do still make dslr cameras. In fact, Nikon has just announced the D6's development, and Canon just released, side by side with a mirrorless twin, a brandnew dslr that I would have loved to put "Pentax" and "K3 successor" on: the D90 with a brandnew 32,5 mp sensor. It currently ships and first user reviews of this sensor (but also DPreview's review of the mirrorless version M6II) are very positive: "increased resolution with no downsides", and "a big step up in image quality for Canon". The cropping ability of this new sensor is very attractive for wildlife and bird photographers. Instead of lamenting the camera industry's downfall as the reason for Pentax' cease to a near halt with its lens and body releases, and hope for the downfall of other camera makers, why not expect of Pentax to pick up the gauntlet and use their technical expertise to get going making great cameras again. Ricoh's conservatism and lack of true interest in the Pentax brand may well be the main reason for the current situation. I expect the Canon 90D to sell véry well, already being called Canon's best Apsc body ever, and I have no doubt that even now, a Pentax cutting edge Apsc camera would also sell very well.
The fact that the glory days of the digital camera industries are over, does not mean that there is no longer any sense in remaining competitive and innovating as a camera maker. Not making any products anymore, or slowing down pace to a near halt, will certainly not sell cameras.

Pentax was a small family business that got lucky with the instant return mirror and the Pentaprism right at the time the American Upper Middle Class was coming into its most acquisitive years. At the very end of the screwmount era (I recently read) Pentax sold more camera bodies than Canon and Nikon combined. They had massive revenue from SMC licenses and were diversifying into higher ROIC businesses - I think 70 of them. They built the “Factory in a Park” that was praised literally across the industrialized world - my father even talked about it.

I think they felt invincible, and I think they were caught totally unprepared for the global recession caused by the first energy crisis. They never got their mojo back. Nikon and Canon had stolen a march on them with reportage cameras as glossy color magazines took off (Paris Match, Der Stern, Sports Illustrated) and Olympus with small ones, then Canon with AE and Minolta with AF. And the high volume, low margin, brand image advertising business model didn’t suit them.

They never

Ricoh monitor social media content. They wait for customers to jump ship, and release the new cam the next day after they jump ship. This happen with the K1, some people got impatient, Ricoh released the K1 right after jumpers spent 10 Grands into the EF or F mount system, and after that, Canon and Nikon announced they'll develop the RF and Z mounts (and let the EF and Z mounts witter) but there would be an adapter for their Old lenses. Some people are really not lucky
