Item for Sale
Pentax 20-35mm FA SMC F 4 wide zoom Sharp!

Asking Price
400.00 USD

Item Location
Mesa (United States)

Item Description
I bought this lens new and used it on my film bodies (LX through MZ-S). It has been sitting unused in a lens wrap for years. As I have the 15-30 F2.8 for my K-1 I'm not tempted to use it in the future and would like for it to be used again to make fine images.

Lens barrel shows some physical wear but it zooms smoothly, Autofocus works perfectly, glass is clean and unmarred by any defects. Sharp lens on Velvia! I have not tested it with my K-1. Shipped with original Pentax Lenshood, lens caps, and a new Pentax S 100 120 lens wrap.

Thank you Les, I greatly appreciate your kind words on my work. To me this is fairly straight forward, to wit, Does the current array of Pentax gear keep me competitive? As long as that answer is affirmative, and they keep making it, I'll keep using it, simple as that...

I'll close this by adding that many times in the past year of carrying the K-1 on assignment worldwide I've had Canikon/Sony, etc, shooters ask me, "Hey, is that the K-1?" They all know of it, and often want to hold it and check out the balance and controls. Funny, I never do that with Canons...

As a very long time Pentaxian and pro shooter who's made a good living with Pentax cameras and glass for decades, (K2DMD, LX, PZ-1P, MZ-S, 67, 67II, *istD, K10, K20D, K7, K5, K3, K3II, K-1, 645D, 645Z), I have to simply say that we are living in the golden age of Pentax, in terms of IQ, Image Quality. To decry otherwise or to become downtrodden when reading poorly written press releases is to miss the proverbial forest for the trees. I can make more and better images now, in more challenging conditions and light levels, than I ever dreamed. My only limitations are my own vision and energy. I learn new new techniques and gain more skills every year, and that is what I care about, what I need to care about. The overriding arc of technical progress and prowess provided by Pentax (and their ruggedness and interface control design) has kept me satisfied, productive, and loyal for forty years. I have confidence in Ricoh-Pentax' ability to survive in this radically changed business environment and keep providing me the tools I need to shoot my travel features, etc. Speaking of that, I have a story to write on Cactus League baseball. I already have the pictures done, by the K-1 and K3II... Keep on shooting! Kerrick

Pentax K-3 body, Excellent, 9311 Shutter actuations

Asking Price
450.00 USD

Item Location
Arizona (United States)

Item Description
This Pentax K-3 has 9311 shutter actuations, so there's lots of life left in this body. It's mechanically perfect, but has wear marks on body corners. I'm shipping it in the original box, with battery and charger of course, plus strap and body cap. This would be a great second body if you have either the K-3II or K-1 (I have both, which is why I'm selling this body).

I bought this lens new, and had the SDM repaired once by Pentax. It quit again, but focuses manually just fine, and optical performance is unimpaired. This comes with the original Pentax lenshood and a Pentax lenscap, plus the S120-150 padded lens pouch.

As I state upfront that the autofocus function is not operational, but the glass is perfect, I will not accept a return. This is a fine and usable lens, but if you must have autofocus you'll need to have Pentax repair that.

The New Superhero That Could: The Pentax K-3 II

I've carried my Pentax gear into rough country and wild adventures since the late 70's, (although I also shoot resorts and cities, etc.), and looking back on all the Pentax 35mm, 67 and digital bodies and lenses I've used around the planet, I can honestly say we've never had it so good. This is the new golden age of Pentax for real serious shooters, and we owe a debt of thanks to Ricoh for investing and turning up the volume, and serving our visions. That's my two cents as a working pro who carries the K-3 and 645Z everywhere now, and looking forward to the new K-3IIs and eventual FF.
Off to Mexico next week to shoot beaches and ziplining and culture for my magazine markets, but hey, it's a living... Kerrick James

Item for Sale
SMC Pentax-FA* 250-600mm F5.6 ED [IF]

Asking Price
5,000.00 USD

Item Location
Arizona (United States)

Item Description
I have owned this lens since 1994, acquiring it direct from Pentax new, and have used it since then for numerous assignments. It has always stayed in it's custom Pentax lens case, and while there are some scratches here and there, and a button is missing on a little used lens control, the glass is perfect and the quality is fantastic. It comes with the matching Pentax L (long) converters, 1.4XL and 2XL, which are superb and retain image integrity. NOTE: This is a lens meant for a shooter, meaning the glass is clean and clear (Arizona climate helping in that regard), but it is not cosmetically perfect.
This is a rare lens, and when the long awaited FF body is released you'll have a working focal range of 250-1200mm. With an APS-C body like the K-3 you have 375mm-1800mm at your choice.

So why am I selling this lens now? In recent years I've done less and less long lens shooting and have been using my 645Z a great deal. Less wildlife and sports and more landscape, (while teaching workshops), so I would prefer to move the capital invested in the superior optic to medium format. I may regret this sale when the new body arrives so think this one over, but not too long...

Please read the Item Description closely! This lens has perfect glass, but is a working lens for a shooter, not for showpiece display. It is offered with both the 1.4XL and 2XL converters for one package price...

If you are local you can test the lens before buying but I'm not inclined to ship it around the country for a round of tests unless you're very serious and have the money to purchase. I'd prefer to ship within North America but might possibly ship overseas. Write with questions!

I've been using the 645D since it first arrived in the States, first with only 645 and 67 film lenses, and more recently with the 25mm, a sweet optic indeed. I was lucky enough to be the first photog to test it, and sold my 67II bodies after I did so. I see the 645D as a more than worthy successor to the 67 line, and I loved and made a living with the 67 system so parting with those bodies was hard to do! Hope you enjoy the variety, comments and questions welcomed...

Pentax 645D lenses : which ones to go for ?

I initially used a friend's 645 film zooms, specifically the 33-55mm (quite good), 45-85mm (also good), 80-160mm (another fine copy). Once I found a 67-645 adapter from KEH I could test and use my 67 glass. I then sold my 35mm Fisheye (not wide or sharp enough), 45mm (not near good enough for this sensor but fine for Velvia), and kept my 55-100mm (excellent results!), 135mm Macro (very fine detail), 200mm (fairly good results), and the 300mm ED (really fine quality), plus tested the 1.4X and 2X Pentax teleconverters and was very pleased with them mated to the 300mm ED.

I now also have the 55mm 2.8 and 25mm digital lenses, and they are both superior optics, but for me it's the 25mm that makes this system sing. It's both a wonderful landscape and travel lens, and I can't imagine working without it.
