If you don't renew your license, you should simply never download a version beyond what you've paid for (and it won't auto-upgrade you since you aren't upgradeable). And even if you do download and install a newer version to check it out, you can always get rid of it. They have the version that you own as a download link in your account perpetually it seems.

experiences with Soligor 400 mm f/6.3?

Yeah, there are a ton of versions (branded names) of that lens, and a ton more that are very similar (different construction, but nearly the same). Simple construction. It obviously isn't going to compare to any high-end telephoto (even a vintage one), but it isn't abjectly terrible either. I wouldn't pay much for it at all -- there are a gazillion of them out there. The interesting thing about it (and other cheap old lenses) is that it is actually sharper using it on modern digital (sort of) than it was originally because with a click of a button in lightroom much of its noticeable spherical aberration can be instantly corrected and so the sweet spot is somewhat enlarged (will still look best in the center though). It is something to play with -- not for serious work though.

Aperture ring not working when mounting older K lens

It is not supposed to move when you turn the ring. Only during shot, or for "green-button" metering. It will be wide-open the rest of the time if mounted and the camera is on. (I think on the K-01 it opens up when you power it up cause it is mirrorless -- every DSLR model it is open if mounted.)

Camera should be in M mode, and TURN OFF auto-iso (this is usually the gotcha -- it is in TAV mode on K-01 if auto-iso is enabled, not true Manual. ISO must be set to fixed number).

See here, if you haven't already:

I wouldn't even be sure that it actually has been released even now unless you can get one in your hands -- It is under "new products" at adorama with a price tag, so I guess that's a good sign, but it is not actually in-stock. (Did anybody see it in stock?) It definitely was never available in 2017 (or 2018)...

Simple Repair for Yellowed Takumar Glass?

With the IKEA lamp, I put a piece of tinfoil (more reflective side up) on a table. Take the lens, open the aperture all the way (obviously) and put it on the tinfoil. Now take the lamp and have it shining down into the lens with the bulb as close as possible to the glass -- it could even be touching it if you are careful not to scratch it -- but as close as possible. Leave that overnight. Then usually I flip it so the other side of the lens is on the lamp side (unless you have a rear element that sticks out too much -- you don't want to rest it on the glass itself obviously) and do it that way for a while. This usually gets it as clear as it is going to be in less than 24 hours. Keep in mind some of these lenses have a natural *slightly* warm tone (or maybe the cement gets slightly yellow also, but that won't clear) so they don't all get to a completely neutral clear, but it should be pretty close.

Again, get that lamp practically inside the lens -- if you just shine it from a foot away or even 6 inches away I would expect it to take much much longer if it even worked. (Light intensity decay works on a inverse-square law as we know.)

I have had (mostly) nothing but good experiences buying and selling here, btw. But I do self-filter sellers I find questionable or unknown for bigger ticket items. (If you experienced sketchy behavior from people with good feedback and significant track records I'd be surprised.) And as a seller, I have waved off buyers before. But that was because they were being sketchy or I was going to be put at additional risk -- I'd never just sell to someone else mid-transaction or raise a price.

K-01, Manual-Focus Lenses, and the Green Button

This is one of those topics that seems to mystify people for no apparent reason. Nothing here that can't be mastered in 15 minutes.

With 'A' lenses and newer, there is no reason to use the green button. With m42 lenses, there is also no reason to use the green button since Av mode is much easier. If you are partial to M mode, then ok, go ahead.

So the only time you *need* the green button is for M or K-series type lenses (K-mount, no contacts) where you really are forced to use M mode on the body and there is no other way to get it to take a reading at your selected aperture than to use the button. And yes, you do have to set your options correctly -- Aperture Enabled, Green Button set to Tv Shift for M/Tav. And on the K-01 you have to be sure to set the ISO to a fixed number. And although the menus are different for how you go about finding those options on the various models of bodies, once you have done so the actual metering procedure is the same with all models that I'm aware of. (Although I don't know anything about the 200D.) But the K10D, K-7, K-5, K-01, K-30, etc all act the same.

You put it M mode, set your aperture on the ring, and hit the green button to take a reading and set the shutter. Some models may allow you to dial in Ev comp into this equation, others you have to post-adjust. But pretty simple either way.

I think telecentric means that the object size does not change as you shift focus or move the lens back or forward slightly (within a certain range) making focus stacking easier.

Hey, I finally got that KP I've been wanting for 2 years. Didn't buy the extended warranty because I know I can buy it within 30 days, but just now I see that B&H has it for $50 instead of $110. This is the right thing, right?

Rant: camera prices and quality per format

Markets dictate prices, not cost of materials or build quality. Although those things can affect what the market is -- it is a feedback loop. Still, smaller market = higher prices. People often have an intuitive feeling that the retail cost of things should be the cost of producing them times some "reasonable" amount of profit, and that's that. But that just isn't the way world works. Cost of materials, labor, etc set a floor, but not a ceiling.

Topaz "Gigapixel AI" is the best software I've bought in years

Please note the Denoise AI is not like their old Denoise program (which is also excellent). And you probably should eliminate any other denoising/sharpening going on in LR or wherever before you apply these. I'm not positive if Gigapixel should be a first or last step, but I'm assuming last, otherwise any additional processing will be very computationally expensive because the image will be that much bigger. I have mainly personally used Denoise AI and Sharpen AI -- my wife is the "preparing photos for printing" guru, I'd have to ask her about that. I do know she said Gigapixel works great with some images, some others turn out weird. Which is to be expected with this tech. (Just as Sharpen AI can rescue some images amazingly from camera movement or slight missed focus but others will have too many weird artifacts.) All worth having in the toolbox though.

Gigapixel AI is more for enlarging that sharpening. They have another on called Sharpen AI for sharpening (which does more than normal sharpening -- it rescues missed focus and fixes camera movement) and Denoise AI for noise. They are all pretty amazing, and they update the models they use quite often. You do need a decent graphics card.

Format makes no difference to that, only the focal length. A medium format 150mm lens and a full-frame (35mm format) 150mm lens are both 150mm focal length lenses -- same FOV on APS-C.
