People who don't do much photography always find a fish eye pretty crazy. I always try to keep my 10-17 close by!

Cameras and flippy screens is like Office Space and the stapler! We all know in 10 yrs flip screens are going to be a joke - if a camera doesn't have a wifi image sent to your contact lens or a heads-up-display it'll be considered garbage.

My K3 (after recent reboot) still working great - even after my mountain bike crash yesterday. Banged up wrists, right knee, shoulder abrasion, slightly out of tune rear wheel and twisted front handlebars. I keep it stuffed in the Mindshift 180 with an extra battery, lens cap off and paired with the 18-135 when I ride...

I need to stop trying to keep up with the kids...

Reflex: Bringing back the analogue SLR camera by REFLEX ? Kickstarter

I chipped in a bit for this long shot. Idea was to create a basic body like k1000, fm2, canon something with a different front plate which would have the mount to match your lenses. They are still slowly working on it as far as I know. Ill buy it if it ever comes to market.

Well, if they are throwing in the towel, I got dibs on that one-of-a-kind silver 21mm DFA f/who-gives-a-bleep they fondled a couple months ago in that video that circulated.

OK, took everything out, fresh battery. Made the camera do everything I could think of in the menus - including the reset and format. And wallah! All systems seem good to go - even the prior AF button issue I'd been dealing with. I can't explain it. So far so good with several lenses. Thanks for the input everyone!

I'll give it a go, Jim! I'll shut it down and see if we can reboot. Stay tuned! (And thats what I was thinking about the other responses - the repair cost is about the cost of new...)

i tried to search for similar problems but didn't find a good match. My K3, which earlier had issues with the AF button on the left side of the camera not work - but still worked via the top screen and in the view finder - accumulated more issues. Well, its a brick. The LIVE view works, the autofocus works, but it won't take a picture. It seems the gremlins inside are gradually taking down more and more of the mother board. It doesn't seem similar to the runaway mirror problem - which never happened.

The Precision repair is ~ $350 +/-. Has anyone used it for this kind of repair? Thats a decent amount of dough if it doesn't come out working great afterwards.

So thats the question - fix it, or save the money for the new APSC coming out!

I'm sure my small donation helped a tiny bit. Very huge project. I still give them kudos for giving it a go. I shoot the P30 from time to time. My most recent roll thru Blue Moon Camera. Send me back in time and I'd chip in again. (But then again, I need to feed my 10 film cameras so my perspective will be skewed)

Pentax and Ricoh GRii are the only digital. The "other" cameras - ie, active with film in them now are: Canon EOS 1v, Nikon F5, Nikon FM2n and FM.

Thought I would try out the K1 + 20ta40 for a couple days. It can definitely work! I spent 10 sec processing this and it came out rather harsh, but its all good:

All those zeroes in the price! I don't know much, but it's going to look great on my K1, and super great on my new K-new ("nKn"). But I'll be really upset if I have to go buy super glue to tack down a flippy screen on it.

A few times a year I send out for prints - usually 5x7 or 8x10's of the keepers. And usually a few bigger. I hate digging through my files to look at pictures! I gave up long ago on the home printer - like a few mentioned, the ink cost, the gunk on the printer heads from lack of regular use. Actually, I don't even have a color printer of any quality anymore - just a basic black and white laser printer for other stuff.

K3 AF mode button on left side gonzo?

Good point - so the AF button does work but it does not activate the LCD screen on the back. Pushing the button does allow me to select the AF mode and number of AF points by looking thru the view finder. But every other button seems to activate the LCD screen as it normals does! Very strange. I have skimmed thru the manual to see if I altered a setting, which is what I hope it is - I can't figure it out! Its still functioning fine with this one peculiar glitch.

The top panel and the full tile panel on the rear LCD works fine - I can adjust the AF settings there as well.

Over the years I had always used that AF button on the left to change what I was doing - I'll have to adapt!

K3 AF mode button on left side gonzo?

Anyone else have this problem? I still use the K3 a lot - its the one getting bounced around skiing and biking. The AF mode button on the left side does not seem to work - everything else appears to work fine. I can still change the AF mode (AF-S, AF-C etc) and focus selection by looking thru the view finder and using the front and back wheels. The back screen lights up with every other feature except for the AF mode button. The Precision Repair lists at $350+ now so thats out.

I fear you speak the truth - but a smallish 50-120 /4 would be fun with a similar build to the 20-40!
