Picked up a Q10

The Q system is a lot of fun and I also picked up a Q10 on the cheap last year that I plan to use as the basis for a telecine scanner. The Q7 though is a major step up in image quality maybe look for the 01 attached to one of those.

So do we have any clues as to if it will have GPS? Iíve been looking forward to having astrotracing ability in my next camera. Iíve had my K-3 since 2013 and just didnít see the K-3II as a justifiable upgrade just for that.

If GPS can be fit into a Fitbit I hope they found the room.

Super pleased to find out it uses the same battery form factor as the K-3 and others. That doesnít eliminate the possibility for a higher mAh rating but even if it doesnít at least I can share batteries and chargers.

The Pentax DZ-1 brought to you by Ricoh. So we can all argue the correct way to pronounce Zed and that it has the Ricoh name on it and complain that it sounds like ďdizzy oneĒ

If I were to venture a guess I would say itís the film and the scan. The three pigment layers that form the colour image are developing differently from how they were intended. Less cyan and yellow and more magenta. Then the scan didnít compensate for it. If you havenít seen the actual slides itís hard to say they could look the same but have been scanned differently.

Many things about the way America operates perplex me this is another of them. Suing over a product years after itís out of warranty? Donít you just punish a company by not buying their product in the future if your that unhappy? Along with a strongly worded tweet. Who has time for an effort like this and to what end?

I saved up for a replacement for my K3 which will be 7 years old this year. I donít even think I had a film camera that long in pre digital days. However I ended up buying a 4x5 camera and a new FLM tripod so my desire for a new camera is slightly mitigated. Who am I kidding I look for new news about the K new almost every day.

I havenít shot the other two film types but the Tiger looks about what you can expect from 110 film. Although I do get small pin prick size light leaks through the backing paper.

They really make a point of saying optical viewfinder a number of times. Itís possible that is some polite signalling that there is no hybrid viewfinder. Iím just looking for an update on my nearly 7 year old K-3 so either way Iím probably the target audience. When actually capturing images the viewfinder has the biggest impact on my experience. I use a 4x5 field camera a Rolleiflex TLR and use the Fujica ST701 that has 0.96x magnification. I look forward to the new cameras viewfinder either way. Oh and on the bad viewfinder side of things I also have some of the worst. The Lubitel 2 and the Olympus Pen F come to mind.

Well the thread about the APS-c camera update video quickly devolved into who designed a lens argument. Sigh. Hopefully we can have separate threads so we donít have to wade through pages of Tamron did it...no they didnít to talk about the camera.

Iíve written a small blog post on the fix the issue if itís a matter of the flash not registering being at the end of its travel. Sorry if itís a little light on details I just did the repair without intending to necessarily share it.

Do you mean that the internal zoom drive runs continuously?
If that is the case then the system that senses that it has reached the end is not registering and it keeps on driving the worm screw that moves the lens system back and forth.

This can be remedied with some careful disassembly and cleaning of the PCB board and metal contacts. I may have a picture or two of this.

I bought the K-7 early and dealt with the overheating sensor until it was fixed in firmware. I bought the K3 early and had a few flippy mirror incidents until fixed in firmware. So have I learned anything? No not really I will order the K-new early and hope that if there are any issues they are dealt with in firmware.

DA50-135 only focusing in one direction

Update. It clearly was some sort of mechanical issue as the SDM could drive the lens in one direction only and when set to autofocus manual adjustments worked like a ratchet also only going one way. I just mounted the lens on my MZ6 to see how it would work as a screw drive lens. After playing with that for a minute I mounted it back on the K-3 and it worked properly with the SDM focus. I wonder if there is some lubricant that has stiffened that the SDM couldnít break free of but the screw drive could. Or if there is some slider in a slot that got into a position the couldnít be moved from without more torque. In any case I will have to wait and see.

Anyone else had this failure and fix? My DA50-135 just started only being able to focus from close to far but not from far to close. The SDM motor clearly still works but something is causing it to only be able to move in one direction under its own power. Manual focus still works.

I actual have and use the Elan 7ne Itís a fun thing to try but it doesn't work that well as a photography tool. Even with the limited number of points it requires you to look directly at what you want to focus on in an unnatural way. Itís much better to take everything in a scene in rather than looking specifically at one single point. Canon Elan 7ne (The one that knows where your looking) | Wallace Koopmans Artlog

Thinking about the proximity sensor below the viewfinder and what it could be used for.
1) To start the AF system (like Minolta Maxxums once did)
2) To Blank the rear screen so as to not interfere with the viewfinder
3) To disable a touch sensitive rear LCD
4) To Switch between the rear LCD and a hybrid EVF when in Live View mode.

Iíve ranked them in the order of what I would wish for with 4 being the best. 1 and 2 would be a complete disappointment. 3 would be good but not a deal breaker. So my personal hope is for 4. I mean after all it looks like the return of the stovepipe from the K-01 if that isnt a hint from Ricoh then what is? ;)

So a dial seems like overkill if you are only making three selections. Some sort of smaller lever could have done the trick for selecting between OVF Live View and Movie mode. It's possible and I think likely that there are more options that are not shown yet.
