Nikon Mirrorless Specs

I hope they release a class leading camera. If the price includes a pro quality 24-70mm Then I could see the kit being over $4,000. Sony really needs some competition in the FF mirrorless market. Looking at how well they did with the D850, I have high hopes. I won't switch to Nikon anytime soon, but it could be a possibility in a couple of years if Sony doesn't improve in some areas and Nikon does it right.

RICOH ANNOUNCES AVAILABILITY OF HD PENTAX-D FA★50mm F1.4 SDM AW STAR-SERIES LENS

It should be coming soon. I would guess Ricoh is going to release it with the new DA* zoom that was coming this year. Ricoh seems to have a very hard time moving products from development to production.

The KAF-4 offers faster and more precise control of the aperture. It's also easier and less expensive to build lenses with electronic control vs mechanical control. It also makes it easier for 3rd party companies to adapt lenses to K-mount. So say you wanted Tamron to adapt over their 15-30mm F/2.8 or their 24-70mm F/2.8. Its easier and less expensive to do if you have an electronic aperture control.

I don't see that happening unless the 24MP version is an A9 killer and the 45MP body is an A9r type of camera. There is too much competition in the market for Nikon to be successful at that price point unless these cameras blow away the rest of the market. I don't see a first generation body coming close to doing that.

Typically, 85mm and up is easier to design than 50mm and under when dealing with highly corrected lenses. I would hope they can get the 85mm out quicker.

Hiring models, where and how?

There are usually Facebook groups or local meetup groups that link photographers to models. Nashville Photographer, Model & Creative Team (Nashville, TN) | Meetup Here is an example of one here in Nashville. I never liked MM, but I haven't even tried to use it in years. With the proliferation of social media groups its hard to justify spending money with MM.

Try to connect with good hair and make-up professionals. I shoot a good number of wedding a year and I have met a lot of skilled people that way.

Godox AD200 for Pentax by June?

Godox makes good stuff for the money. I have been pleasantly surprised. I have had 1 trigger that was DOA, but other than that everything has worked better than expected. This is the kind of 3rd party support Ricoh needs.

The D850 sensor is made by Sony. I would expect that the Nikon mirrorless cameras will also have sensors made by Sony.

If they do it right..... I will be happy to. I'm not a huge fan of Sony the company. It just a matter of they are the company that best fits my needs at this time. The A9 is a phenomenal camera that gives me excellent results with very little post processing. Can Nikon do better? I hope so. Sony needs competition. Nikon makes some great glass.

Given that Nikon us using Sony sensors (just like Ricoh) it is good news for Sony. Part of the cost of the Sony A7/A9 line is that those sensors are only used by Sony. If they can get Nikon on board with mirrorless and buying the stacked BSI sensor for the A9 and the 42MP sensor from the A7rIII line it should help lower sensor cost. These will directly compete with Sony and that is good news for Sony owners. Sony needs competition.

Its not click bait. Nikon fan boys have been talking about a new Nikon A7III/A7rIII competitor and they expect it to be announced in September. Canon will also have one on display.

By the way, why do you care if it generates clicks or not?

True, but Sony ergonomics do suck. I wish they would let Ricoh or Olympus design and build their bodies.

Sigma will quickly take their Sony FE mount ART lenses and transition them to the new Nikon mount. That's 18 pro-grade lenses that can be used on the new Nikon mirrorless cameras within a few months. I'm also sure Nikon will have an adapter for existing Nikon glass ready at launch. Sony has been very successful at stealing Canon customers with adapted glass. More successful than I ever thought they would be.

The main advantages of the MK2 have to do with JPEG processing with the accelerator chip. I doubt a lot of K-1.2 users are using C1.

It depends on what you are doing with your image. I shoot portraits/events/weddings and I am constantly using brushes for local adjustments. Spot removal, brighten eyes, clarity to the hair and wedding dress, soften skin and remove some blemishes..... gradient filters.... manually adjusting white balance. Then there is the issue of screen size. I process on a 38" ultra-wide and the ability to really see my image on a large scale is huge for getting it just right.

There is a place for in camera RAW processing. Shooting a band that wants to blast some images out on social media while the shoot is taking place. You want a camera that can kick out a high quality JPEG that be used immediately, but for 90% of my work, I need to have a little more control.

Damn. I thought the Sigma was a boat anchor. The Sony-Zeiss 50mm F/1.4 FE is also a lens that boarders on being just too big.

Sony A7III vs Canon 5DIV vs Nikon D4s

You end up shooting a lot of frames just to make sure you have some in focus, but what is frustrating is when you see a lot of shot that would have been great shots if they had been in focus. And its not just "good enough". The A7/A9 series gives you perfectly sharp images where as with a DSLR a lot of images were sharp enough for web display, but when you printed large or looked at them on a big screen you could see it was slightly soft.

I was just in a discussion on another forum where someone posted some portraits and I told him he missed focus on the eyes. He insisted that he nailed focus and it looked fine on his monitor. He is looking at the image on a small 27" iMac with a pixel density over 200PPI. Small monitors with high pixel density mask AF errors. It looked fine on my iPad too, but when I looked at it on my 38" ultra-wide monitor it was obvious that it was slightly out of focus. There are a whole lot of people out there who don't print large or need images to look go on a large display. Maybe all they need is Facebook or Flickr quality.

50% larger than the current 4/3 sensors used by Olympus and Panasonic. Who is Sony making this for?

Olympus working on a 4/3 camera to compete with APS-C cameras? This sensor is larger than the Canon APS-C.

This image is taken as a test shot for AF. Child was on a rocking horse going back and forth and I was about 1 meter away. Their back porch had a bunch of distracting "junk" on it and I needed to blow that out. A9 nailed about 70% of the shots with eye AF tracking the eyes. I had tried this before with My K-3 and I had zero keepers.

When shooting weddings I will always shoot pictures of the bride getter her make-up on. I have lots of shots of the bride applying eye liner or shadow that are taken at very close focusing distances at very wide apertures. 90mm macro is often the lens I use.

How has printing affected your photography (if it has)?

Get a decent screen and it will help you with your processing. You will get better prints.

I make several A3+ sized prints a month (largest I can print at home). Seeing you work large has a lot of advantages and it helps to learn and fuel the passion. Screens are OK, but they are nothing like a fine print.

As I said above. Get a good monitor.

There are very few reasons to save an image that you are not going to print. If the image doesn't make you want to print it and print it large, then its probably not a very good image. If its paid work or family that's a different story, but for personal work, don't keep what you don't want to print.

The darkroom is what got me hooked in photography. Printing has always been my desired end result.

Yes. The AD200s are great little lights for the money. I never gave them much consideration until a friend of mine brought them out for a shoot. I ordered 3 of them that night. I hate traveling with my Einstein's and dealing with the cords and battery packs. These don't have the power, but for 90% of what I do outside the studio, they work fine. The 600PRO model might be what I go with to replace my Einstein's in the future.
