I would suggest that some of the response to Adobe's actions can be characterized as "psychological reactance." (Certainly mine is.)
Reactance occurs when a person feels that someone or something is taking away their choices or limiting the range of alternatives. - Wikipedia
Thus, when Adobe says that a valued former freedom, e.g., owning one's own software and avoiding recurring charges, is no longer an option one may experience reactance. If you are old enough (as I am) recall that when 2 Live Crew's albums were banned, sales soared. When the Coca-cola company removed "old coke" and substituted "new coke" soda drinkers rebelled. The magnitude of reactance increases in proportion to the importance to the freedom lost. Reactance is believed to engender a motivation to restore the freedom (e.g., write to Adobe) or, barring that, seek alternatives.

This is a good summary, also from Wikipedia:
A short explanation of the concept is that the level of reactance has a direct relationship between the importance of a freedom which is eliminated or threatened, and a proportion of free behaviors eliminated or threatened.
My response? I don't like it either. I'll probably be switching to Affinity Photo or another program for photoshop-like editing. If another company's software can read my photos' keywords and so forth from Lightroom, I'll switch in a minute for digital asset management.

Full disclosure: I am a retired (recovering?) professor of social psychology.

I would just get some black gaffer tape (it comes in various widths) and cover the hole. Peel it back when you need access. BTW, gaffer tape is much nicer than duct tape; the adhesive doesn't leave a residue.

I agree. Whatever the attorney charges now will be cheaper than what you will incur if litigation occurs.

It was a gloomy day and walking about the site where all those people all those years ago met their end called for somber post processing. Analog Effects Pro 2, Nik Collection.

Hand held inside the Milan Duomo. I like the B/W conversion with Nik. (1/60 at f4, ISO 1600). It is a REALLY big cathedral. I focused on the couple, resulting in background being out of focus.

Just outside the Piazza del Popolo, Rome.

Hd Dfa 150-450 front element removal

I feel your pain about the dust, but you should chill. There was an amazing photo on a website for repairing old folding cameras (Certo6 - the site is being redone just now so I can't leave a particularly helpful link or the photo) that was taken by an elderly Rolleiflex with an entire, largish insect stuck in the lens. There was no visible effect on the photo. I have read that dust and scratches on rear elements can cause real problems, but front elements almost never do.

Here is another source for stuff on the front element. Same conclusion.

Yes, that is my recollection of it as well. It was said to have a black(?) backing on it so that it wouldn't scratch in cinema cameras. A special treatment was needed to remove that when it was processed. Go for it, though. What do you have to lose other than the cost of processing?

Scanning a Lot of Photos - What Software to Use?

There are numerous settings and options available with Vuescan. I would recommend setting some time aside and going through the reasonably decent manual that comes with the program. I haven't used the auto-detect function for edges yet. When I scan multiple images, i.e., slides, I set the crop border to a negative value so that the curve of the slide holder won't be included. Also, if you set a positive value on the buffer, it won't use edge data to modify the white balance. Good luck. Much like Photoshop, there is a learning curve to using it.

rusty aperture blades

Looks REALLY bad to me - there seems to be rust even on the mount. Although I may be wrong, don't aperture blades have some kind of "bluing" on them - similar to that on guns? Wiki: Bluing (steel) - Wikipedia Clearly the rust has gone through whatever protects the steel and even if you could clean it up, I would worry that untreated blades would then rust again and drop rust flakes on the internal lens elements. I think I would write it off to experience and find another lens. Good luck!
