Pentax full frame system compared to Canon or Nikon

The one big benefit going the K-1 route (to me at least) is the In-body Image Stabalization, which means any lens you put on it (especially manual lenses) are stabelized which saves you money in the long run compared to Canon/Nikon lenses that have VR (in most cases you pay more to have the VR included in the lenses)

Worth picking up a 645D as a second body to a Nikon D800?

If your on a tight budget, I'd suggest going with the 645D, especially if your going to be shooting at lower-ish ISO's (under 1600, mainly due to it having a ccd sensor). If you need the higher iso (6400 and higher) go with the 645z.

For Pentax's 100mm macro with WR, there's this: Pentax smc Pentax-D FA 100mm f/2.8 WR Macro Lens 21910 B&H Photo

If getting it new is out of your price range, I suggest checking out the marketplace here on the the forums first, and if anything check keh.com, Adorama, or B&H. As far as 3rd party macro lenses that have WR, I'm not sure if Sigma or Tamron offer WR on their macros, maybe somebody else here in the forums can help on that end.

For fast zooms, check out keh.com (here: at KEH Camera Store)

For the wide end, you can't go wrong with either Tamron's 17-50mm f2.8 (Tamron 17-50mm F/2.8 Aspherical DI II SP IF LD XR (A16) K Mount Autofocus Lens For Pentax APS-C Sensor DSLRS {67} at KEH Camera Store) or Sigma's 17-50mm f2.8 (Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 EX DC HSM Zoom Lens for Pentax DSLRs 58C109)

For the long end, I'd suggest either Tamron's 70-200mm f2.8 (105-300mm equivelent) (Tamron 70-200mm F/2.8 DI LD IF SP Autofocus Lens For Pentax K Mount {77} at KEH Camera Store) or Pentax's 60-250mm f4 (90-375mm equivelent)

For a 645zII, updates for it should be: new BSI sensor, 16-bit Raw, Pixel Shift, UHS-II compatible (UHS-III would be better), improved sync-speed, electronic shutter, AA-si ulator (like in the K1), more AF points (more spread out), improved tethering, improved general video performance, bigger buffer (from 10 to 15 shots)

Highly doubt they're gonna be making updated Kmount lenses anytime soon, they're barely even making any for Oly/Pana (only 4 primes so far) & Sony (8 primes, 3 zooms so far). Their main money makers right now are Canon & Nikon.

Pentax's next FF mega hit camera.

And another thought, I highly doubt they will come out with a cheaper/lower spec'ed FF camera, mainly due to the fact it'll kill any sales from the K3II replacement, seeing as people will most likely go "why will I buy a K3III when I can buy the K3FF for $200 more?". It would be better if they price it the same as the K1, that way people will be like "a 36MP or 24MP for the same price, which one do I get?"

While it's true they offer the "best bang for the buck" DSLR wise, they're in a situation where the saying goes: "Take your time, hurry up" applies. I get that they want to put out great, high quality products (i.g. FF lenses) on their first outing, but like others have said the fact that they are taking so slow to even announce they're working on a lens/camera, let alone have a rough "release season", is hurting them more than anything due to the fact when someone who's looking to buy a FF camera and looks at Pentax, they're gonna see the limited options of available FF lenses and take a pass (and yes I know about older manual/AF lenses, but I'm sure a large majorty of people getting a FF camera want up-to-date AF lenses). And the fact is that if they keep going at a snails pace releasing updated lenses/improved close-to-comparible spec'ed cameras, the Pentax brand isn't going to last over 10 years.

For the Pentax brand to survive in the long run, Ricoh needs to do what Sony & Panasonic are doing: partner up with another company (i.e. Samsung, Tokina) to have that extra money (for r&d) & manpower to make and release better/improved camera's/lenses in the area's that are lacking that will on-par with the bigger company's (CaNikony)

If they do go FF Mirrorless, they're gonna be in the same boat that Sony was in when they went mirrorless: having a new mount, they'll have their customers waiting for a long time for the f2.8 trinity & fast primes to come out, and even longer for 3rd party options.

Next big FF camera hit? A FF version of the K3II with more AF points/more spread out (51+ points, 25 cross type), better AF, UHS-II compatible (UHS-III would be better), and a deeper buffer (at least 40 shots in a row)

As far as "New FF lenses", a majority of photographers will always suggest the 3 f2.8 amigos (the14mm-35mm range, 24-70, 70-200 lenses) for almost everything, in Pentax's case they got covered pretty much out the gate with the K-1.

When you get into certain niches that's when primes come into play (i.e. a fast 24mm & wider for landscapes, a macro lens+35mm+50mm+85/90/105mm or 135mm for weddings, etc.), and to me is where Pentax is slowly but surely going to be bringing them out (they already have a 50mm & 85mm set to be released sometime soon), they just need to fill in the small gaps (i.e. a 24mm, 35mm, 135mm, 200mm)

Which of my lenses for Northern Lights?

Option 1: A fast wideangle prime lens (<24mm) like the Samyang 14mm f2.8 (FF lens) or16mm f2 (Apsc lens), both can be found used on B&H, though they're both a bit over $200: Used Digital Camera SLR Interchangeable Lenses | B&H Photo Video

Option 2: A constant aperture zoom like the Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 Tamron 17-50mm F/2.8 Aspherical DI II SP IF LD XR (A16) K Mount Autofocus Lens For Pentax APS-C Sensor DSLRS {67} at KEH Camera Store), would also be a good option.

---------- Post added 12-11-17 at 01:14 PM ----------

Another good option is to check out the marketplace here in the forums, good chance you can find a good quality fast W/A prime/constant aperture zoom that's around you're budget.
