Pentax K-m LCD problem

Hello,

It seems I ressurect my K-m to life.

I found this blog :

RiceHigh's Pentax Blog: K-m Debug Mode Unleashed! (For AF Correction)

I put the machine in debug mode and and I'm able to reach the menu and make a full reset to default settings.

In my case and after the initial problem with the lcd also the autofocus seems to be in a permanent lock...

So after the full reset I make some adjustments in the Menu that I believe that are better for machine operation:

1 - "AF Button Function" is now "Enable AF2" - This end with the permanent autofocus issue.

2 - "Display status" is now "Off" - It seems the auto switch from photo review mode to shooting mode or when leaving "Menu" or "Fn Button Menu", or when shoot the review mode have some relation with the LCD starts to do not display things properly. With this setting I minimize the auto display function.

3 - Even so from time to time the LCD stops working. I found power off and power on a second time or with "Menu" button pressed (giving firmware version) bring me back the LCD to normal operation.

4 - Another more drastic possibility is to keep "Debug Mode" active all the time but the LCD never shutdown and the battery life will be shorter.

So the problem stills there but I can surpass it and continuing shooting with my beloved K-m.:)

PS => I also check autofocus accurency but the default setting is working good.

Cheers

Hello,

Two days ago my km lcd stops working. Any time I power on the camera the lcd remains black, and if a lens is mounted on the camera and
The body was in autofocus mode the camera start focus automatically without any action from me, a bit like if I'm pressing the shutter button
halfway. I can change and choose diferent program modes and the viewfinder show the modifications made on theshutter speed or aperture correctly.

When power on the camera if press menu button lcd works and show me the current firmware version. Also I already downgrade and upgrade the firmware several times, playing with versions 1.10 and 1.11.

Here in the forum and in other web sources I can find very similar problems like mine not only with km but also with the sister machine kx, but in anyone are a conclusive end saying the cause for the problem and if it worth a repair.

I also try connect the machine to a tv set to try if I can reach the menu, but no luck ... The onlyboutput is the one related to the firmware ...

The machine have only 15000 shots and are in very good condition and I' in trouble to accept that is it end ...

Any ideas ?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Merry Xmas

Hi,

1 - Try to secure mount the camera in a car interior pointed to foward.

2 - Use a ultra-wide lens ... 10mm or 12 mmm FL.

3 - Use a low shutter speed such as 0,7s or 1s and a cabled remote shutter.

4 - Put the car running at 80 km/h (50 miles/h)

5 - Burst shoot low .

This my bet! :-P

Cheers

Stop Down Metering With The Green Button: Wrong Exposure Recomendations

Hello again,

At the end and after mis-considering a little the suggestion of Canada_Rockies to clean the contacts, I did it.

My camera have now a year and never suppose the contacts and also the metal ring where the lens attach to the body could be so dirty
since the machine when not in use is inside my bag ...
I clean everything with a dry cottonette.

Since then the reported issue never happen again ;-)

Thanks once again Canada_Rockies.

Happy Shooting

Stop Down Metering With The Green Button: Wrong Exposure Recomendations

Hello Again,

@photolady95 => Yep this my lens ...

@CR => I'll check the contacts but I don't think this is the case.

@stevebrot => I don't think the exposure be the correct one (pls see below) ...

Thanks for your input ... usually in M mode I set the machine on, point to the subject ask for AF (press Shutter) when focused press green button to for the given ISO (fixed at 400 in the case) obtain the "best" shutter and aperture suggested by the the meter. Now in the "correct /suggested zone" for shutter and aperture I can change/play with it or play with EV and finally shot (without the need to rotating the knobs to reach the balance of the EV). This procedure works ok until I start using DA 16-45mm ...

As I said I don't understand for a "grey" day the machine suggest a shutter of 1/6000 and aperture of F11 or more
Why ??? There's not enought light!

I understand that, perhaps I can start using other mode than M to avoid the problem. I will try.
I like to use M mode even with lens that could be used in more "advanced" ones.
I believe M mode should works good with any kind of lens or am I wrong ?

Thanks once again.

I have other DA(L) lens and I don't experiment the issue.

Could you please clarify ?

Hello,

Today morning the day is dull but there are nice sunny rays coming from the clouds over the river give a nice scene to shoot...

I use my K-500 with a 16-45mm Pentax lens in M mode and pressing the green button give me wrong metering (1/6000 shutter and F11 or more) ...

Pointing the camera to a darker scene and metering again values seems correct but returning to the original scene measure become wrong again and if shooting the picture naturally will be very dark ...

There any logical explanation to this beaviour? This could be a specific and variable issue with the lens type (16-45 isn't fast like that ;-)) ? There are any way to "adapt" / "calibrate" (not AF) the lens and the body ? The body have the last firmware ...

Thanks a lot

Hello Everybody,

I have a decision I order the DA 16-45 mm ... all the other Pentax alternatives are all over the double of the price of it.

As we say here "Who don't have a dog hunt with a cat" !

Thanks a lot to all for you support.

Happy Shooting!

Thanks a lot everybody for your fast (you own all primes :-D) and valueable input!

@Adam - Nice suggestion but this extended the options ;-) ... added anyway.

@UncleVanya - At this time better will be => IQ (Sharpness), Wider and Range (I'm afraid about 45mm being to short ...)
Of course I can keep the money and still with my 18-55mm ... I find myself sometimes shock with my back against the wall because is not wide enought ...

@Hattifnatt - Beautiful pictures ! Thanks for share. I'm almost convinced ... but not yet.

@bschriver11 - You right, my mistake I mean DA 16-50. Corrected.

@demondata - Like your directness.

@DSims - Colors one of the reason why I choose Pentax. I find Tamron sometimes a bit "Brownish" and Sigma to "Cold".
It could be "just my imagination".

When I have a decision I'll share.

Thanks once again.

Help ! SMC DA 16-45 f/4 or ...

Hello,

I'm on a budget but I would like to improve my gear beyond kit lens.
I already read a lot of posts and reviews and I'm considering a DA 16-45 to join to my actual DA 55-300. Later i can buy a DA 50mm f/1.8 and I'm done ...

Other options are:

- DA 17-70 is expensive and it seems to have HSM probs.
- DA 16-50 seems good by also expensive.
- DA 16-85 is out of budget.
- Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 have very good reviews is fast but I like Pentax colors.
- Sigma 18-250 to stop this crazy indecision, sell kit lens and DA 55-300.

I like macro ( Yeah I know Tamron 90 mm ...) Some samples here: Fotos recentes de Artur P Oliveira Supercilios - Olhares.com

Usually join photo groups going around the city or country side shooting.
Also I like motosports specially car racing this why i get the DA 55-300.

I would like to have your advices or opinions.

Many thanks in advance.

Happy Shooting.

I again,

I'm a very beginner amateur in digital photography world ... I make some trivial shots (Manual Mode) to try to understand the machine and today I connect my k-500 for the first time
to my computer.

I stay absolutely astonished with the quality, color and sharpness of the pictures. Thanks a lot Pentax !

Viewfinder DEmagnifier

Hello,

I own a K-500 I wear glasses and I need a demagnifier to the viewfinder since the corners aren't
visible if I don't rotate my eyes to reach them. also the lower part of green display in the viewfinder
are not visible.

Anyone with the prob ? Any solution ?

The K3 M30129 have tick rubber that will increase the distance.
Is this eyecup FS compatible with K-500 that normally use FR type One ?

Thanks a lot!
