This may be completely unrealistic for this forum but on another forum I visit where new members are looking for advice on getting into the Hobby we have brief questionnaire that the member filled out and cut and pasted into the post. It answered the basic questions that anyone in that hobby needed answered to give a reply that fit the new members needs and wants.

An example might be something like this...

Photo experience ( how many years or none)________________________

If yes , What gear?_________________________

Are you looking for new or Used?_________________________

What do you intent to photography? Family_________ birds________ sports______ etc...

What is your budget?_____________

Where do you see yourself in 1-2 years in the hobby_____________

You can probably see where this can go with additional questions etc. The nice thing about forms like this is they give experienced members the information they need to answer accurately instead of having to draw it out of the new member over a series of posts. Over time they also serve as a resource for future new members

Anyhow, as I said, maynot be a fit for this forum, but on the other forum, it made things so much easier for everyone involved.

Request for NIkon coolscan 3 (Ls30) software ,PLEASE?

Hello,

I am in the process of setting up an old Nikon Coolscan 3 ( LS30) on a dedicated Pc running windows XP. I could really use a copy of the install and scanning software if anyone has it lying around. Yes I know all about the limitations of the scanner and Win XP, but I want to do this anyway. So if any one just happens to have this software please let me know. Thanks a Million.

Same here on the MZ-s though it looks like if you find one starting with serial number 5 its probably got brass gears not the plastic ones... I looked at 5 on ebay, and at the time only one started with 5. Ive used the Pz1p for years and its an excellent camera.. so I opted for it over the mz-s this time.. at most you deal with the cracked plastic at the battery door but its minor and affects nothing... a small dab of jb weld fixes it..

I have a couple Sf1..loud! But fun to shoot.

I picked up some film bodies over the last week .. two pz1p, a pz20, and a super program. I actually started out with the intent to pick up a MZ-S but I got gun shy and came across the others when GBA kicked even though I already own several copies. No regrets, its getting harder to find good condition Pz1ps at a decent price.

New information about new flagship's selling date

Does a watched pot really boil slower than one you set on the stove and leave to do other things? NOPE.But being preoccupied does make the time go by faster. Can't think of a more appropriate way to get ones mind off "K-NEW AND IMPROVED" then to take out "K-Old and Proven" and use it alot.:) Afterall, this could be hashed out on a forum for years to come and it will have zero effect on the future camera releases by Ricoh.

I do think though if it were ready they would have released it... and its far better to have it delayed than to have it released with issues. Just think of the reviews it would receive at other sites not to mention the threads here on its short comings and failures and omissions, and everything else its not that someone feels it should be.:) I think a cautious and careful Ricoh makes much more sense given their market position. I suspect what ever camera they release needs to be well designed and tested carefully and thoroughly given the time they put into it.

It will happen... when is up to Ricoh...in the meantime, we have no shortage of great gear to use.Happy shooting.

Ancestry DNA test

No DNA tests for me...I don't particularly care for how that stuff is used by various companies and agencies after the fact. Theres serious privacy concerns I have. Its tempting as I would love to know aside from being of Italian descent what else is in the mix.. but I will leave that box closed .

As a side story...I do have a good friend thats been put in an awkward position by one of these tests. He found out that another fellow in the area was most certainly a half brother on his mothers side.. quite the delema as he thought he was the oldest sibling for his whole life and now he is faced with confronting his aged mother about this other brother or ignoring their existence. This other brother was given up for adoption and has never known their family. The two "brothers" have met several times now in secret and none of the other siblings are aware nor the mother. It is quite a headache for him! He eventually managed to talk to his mother about his findings and she refused to talk about it except to say things were different back then...

New information about new flagship's selling date

I rely heavily on the "Want it Buyers" Nothing pleases me more than when some one sells perfectly functional gear at a discount because Pentax comes out with something new. Often their discards are "new" to me, other times they are copies of something I already have and value. I could never afford to have half the cool Pentax gear I have if people didn't indulge that urge for the latest and greatest. I have the deepest respect for other people with deep wallets as they help me make the most of my shallow wallet.:)

I came upon this Mourning Dove " lamenting" to his friends that no matter what he did today its feathers would not do what he wanted them to.

His friend the cardinal replied that his feathers looked fine. She said that compared to her unruly plummage he looks like he just got back from the spa !

Their friend the tufted titmouse, obviously peeved, replied.. "seriously?!!!"

Thats a really cool shot... That willow is incredible! If you haven't done it already, play around with Black and white conversions on this pic.. I bet the yellow on blue will will almost give you an infrared look., especially if you darken up the sky. That camera was definitely worth the $5!
