This is my lifer for Pine Grosbeaks. Jan. 20, 2013
K-5 and Sigma 18-250....

This taken through the kitchen window. My original feeder was the porch rail of my deck, the deck since replaced with a new deck and the new rail is 5 feet further away and no longer used as a feeder. I had one in my sites today but he was inside minimum focussing distance. I knew when i went out I should have taken eh DA*60-250 with the 1.4, but of course I said to myself, "that's just silly, why would I do that?" I got 6 out of focus images, but none would have been as good as this one.

Even after you get a lifer that doesn't really slow anything down, then you just want a better lifer. This one's going to be hard to beat.

And mom.

I got great pictures from that setup, but mice were coming into the house because it was too close. I miss sitting at the breakfast table seeing finches on the rail, and sparrows on the deck and sometimes sitting on the window sill. Darn mice ruin everything.

Hi, long time no post for me...
Still enjoying other's photo ! Nice job all !

OMG! I was a "victim" of a very strange coincidence on this "Remembrance Day 2018" in Canada ...
I had just liked a Facebook post by a friend of mine in one of my local Bird watcher group, where he detailed the way he did saw a Pine Grosbeak "lifer" 3 days earlier in our Haut-Richelieu, Quebec area.
And just one minute after I liked the FB post, my girlfriend observed some "weird birds" she never saw in the fruit tree in our backyard. So, you can imagine my shock when I realized that was three individuals of the Pine Grosbeak eating in the tree! They stayed long enough that I was able to get my photo gear setup and took a series of nice pics of them, also being a "lifer" for me.
And yes... I will remember that one!

I watched this titanic battle for about 5 minutes (from a respectful distance ;)). They were still going hard at one another when I left. All that power and muscle was an awesome sight and somehow the rain made it even more dramatic.

K-S2 + DA 55-300 PLM at 300mm (showing the value of this lightweight, go-everywhere, WR combination).

In cropping the shots I left some foreground turf, for a more "ringside" look, and to underscore the earthy quality of the contest.

I think I finally figured out "the right way" to handle film scans. This looks a ton better than most of my other scans even though it was done in lower res.
