. . . which requires an electronic viewfinder, which is specific to mirrorless and is thus "mirrorless tech." A better analogy would be a gasoline powered automobile compared to an electric powered automobile. Both are still automobiles, but each employ very different technologies.

Another way to look at it would be to adopt Paul Getty's maxim, “If it appreciates, buy it. If it depreciates, lease it.” Following that logic, it makes more sense to buy lenses and rent cameras. Of course, lenses can/do depreciate, but much more slowly than cameras with more frequent improvements in technology. Following that maxim to the nth degree, we wouldn't buy much in life let alone photography gear.

I took advantage of Lensrentals extended loan program during the Christmas and New Year holidays and rented two lenses (77mm and 300mm). I am setting aside money each month to do so again this coming December. I have mandatory holiday and vacation days to use during that timeframe, which gives me ample time to photograph without being rushed.

I just had an interesting thought (it's not "apples to apples" so do not make too much of it!) about how we are (or were) supposed to buy a computer based upon the software needed and then look to see what computer(s) runs (ran) that software—and the parallel to buying cameras and lenses. Using the same logic, we should be finding the lenses or lens systems we want first, and then buying them along with the camera to which we want to attach them.

The Bunch Estate Sale starting on January 9th in Pearland, Texas has a least eight lots with Pentax 645 lenses and accessories listed. No deliveries, but they "can provide you with numbers to make arrangements."

I have no affiliation with the website or auction company. I just found it while searching.

You might try comparing the sample image galleries at DPReview. Here’s are link to a comparison of the four cameras:

Side by Side Comparison Pentax K-1 vs. Pentax K-1 II vs. Pentax 645Z vs. Pentax 645D: Digital Photography Review

You’ll probably need to go to the studio shot each review for the galleries.

Also the studio comparison tool shots:
Studio shot comparison: Digital Photography Review

Of course, note the lenses used in the tests.

I currently have one of these for sale in the marketplace.

---------- Post added 12-25-19 at 04:19 PM ----------

One plus is the 645 cameras (D & Z) is that they provide a different aspect ratio than ASP-C and 35mm full frame equivalent, 4:3, which I prefer to 3:2. I enjoyed my year with the 645D very much. There is a subjective preference held by some over the aesthetic of CCD over CMOS sensors that you may also which to explore.

You can do what I just did if its not too late: take advantage of lensrentals.com free seven days with a nine-day rental if you take delivery by 24 December and return after 1January. I rented the 77mm and the *300mm for $150 (including insurance and delivery).

I highly recommend reading the dpbestflow.org section on Adobe DNG. Proprietary raw files and DNG files have some similarities, but also several significant differences.

"RAW versus DNG: What are the advantages and disadvantages of DNG files?" is a good article discussing the pros and cons.
