Sensor cleaning

On the K5, I had to clean the sensor quite often. It is dry and dusty where I take most of my shots, but only had to clean the KP sensor once. It's ultrasonic cleaning is much better.
The Pentax stixky thing is not cheap, but I would reccommend it. Much cheaper having it cleaned

Sometimes I do not see dust in on my image, but when posted to flckr, their algorithms seem to make the invisible dust visible. That is when I hang my head in shame and go clean the senor again

Focus stacking with hand held shots

Fair question

The 16 strong cycle tour has passed on the little jeep track stretching in front of the Land Cruiser and I was the sweeper with a mechanic on board as well. A rhino tracker driving another Land cruiser was the guide and when we saw the lion we piled onto the back of his vehicle and went went to see the lion from another vantage point. He stopped at the perfect place to take this shot. The distance between the Land Cruiser on the photo and the lion was about 200 yards. The lion ambled off and we could return to my car

Focus stacking with hand held shots

Hi

I was backup on a cycling tour in Damaraland and took these shots from the back of a vehicle ( about 20 I think, to make sure I get a good one) with my KP and DA*300 F4. I was on centre point autofocus single and some focusessed on the vehicle lion ( first one ) and the some of my Landcruiser ( second ). I used PS6 with auto align and stacked just these two. It was a hot day and there was a lot of atmospherics visible on the vehicle, but I did manage to get both the lion and the vehicle reasonably sharp on the stacked shot and even managed to gain a small bird! ( top right )

I did not plan a focus stacking, but I think it shows that with the some software a hand held shot is quite useful for stacking

I had to go back to your shots to see th offending lilly-pad. It is part of the grand scenery. Looks just great

---------- Post added 09-01-19 at 06:36 PM ----------

I posted a thread on handheld focus stacking with the DA*300mmF4 and KP in the post processing forum

This is the stacked shot of a desert adapted lion that was watching a group of cyclists on a fund raiser for rhino conservation. I was the back up driver of the vehicle in the picture and it was took at respectful distance from the back of another vehicle. Another reason to have a telephoto.

Because of the hot day there was quite some atmospheric distortion visible on the Toyota

Seems to be a problem on the DA* 300 F4 . It happened to me and there were another thread about it as well. I got mine through the Pentax repair guys in South Africa. Took about three weeks and it was not difficult to replace, once you have it. Well done to you for a temporary fix! Hope you can get it fixed fast

Thanks Arjay Bee. Great comment :). They are quite voracious hunters by the way and get totally carried away when seeing a snake
