OK, in case you're still interested, I took some better pictures and now think the only problem was me. Here's a link to my Flickr, the latest 3 were taken with the Sigma.

K1 and Sigma EX 24-70 out of focus shots

You know, in thinking about this more, I'm quite sure I was changing the aperture as I shot (F4 and 1/4000 is not a setting I would ever use for landscape shots) and every picture I took that day was shot at F4. In test shots after that I've been able to get the aperture to change but now I'm wondering how everything would've ended up at F4. I'll have to play with it more to see if I can figure out what happened.

I'm still getting used to the camera, so that's entirely on me. I will try again with the correct settings and see if there is a difference.

Also, based on the images I got at F4, I would say my luck has been bad. :)

K1 and Sigma EX 24-70 out of focus shots

I recently got this Sigma EX 24-70 from Ebay to use with my K1. I sent it to Sigma before use to get the mount switched to the one that doesn't scratch the K1 body. I took it out for the first time today and ended up with a bunch of out of focus shots. I don't have any experience with lens calibration, does this look like something that can be fixed using that? FWIW, I didn't notice any issues taking similar shots with an SMC 35-70 on the same camera.

Here is my picture. Any advice appreciated!

Thanks! I have lived here almost 50 years, but I didn't start going to the arboretum until the last 10 or so. I have a feeling it has changed a lot, they have made it into a bit of a destination for families rather than just a nature preserve. But, it's close to home.

Got the HD FA 35mm/2.0 yesterday. Hoping to get out and do some shooting soon, but the weather has not been cooperating.

There's not a lot of photography in it, but I'll mention it anyway: The Midnight Meat Train (2008). Bradley Cooper has a Leica in it.

Wikipedia: "The Midnight Meat Train is a 2008 horror film based on Clive Barker's 1984 short story of the same name, which can be found in Volume One of Barker's collection Books of Blood. The film follows a photographer who attempts to track down a serial killer dubbed the "Subway Butcher", and discovers more than he bargained for under the city streets."

The F70-210 is the 4.5-5.6 version?

I am in the process of switching from Canon to a K1 and trying to consolidate down to 3-4 lenses, and that covers a range that I find useful. I need to sell a lot of Canon gear, but the price on that lens is very favorable.

I have a more plastic leader retriever that works well (any time it didn't work it was my fault). I use it to pull the leader back out of the roll so I can trim it for loading into my developing reels (theoretically... I've only done it in practice so far). It seems better to do it this way than to put scissors in my dark bag and try to cut it straight by feel.

Thanks guys!

I noticed also that I think the aperture switch on the lens was stuck between A and M, it seemed like it was much better after I switched it to M (I had forgotten about the switch completely).

I can't see any differences either; as far as function goes (and from what I remember), it seems to be the same.

The lenses are pretty nice! Certainly nothing modern that I've used is as nice to focus manually.

In 1988, I signed up for a photo class at high school. My dad was sort of an enthusiast at the time, so he encouraged it by buying me a Spotmatic with 2 or 3 lenses. I used it for a number of years but didn't take it with me to college and so my little sister started using it. Then she took it to Patagonia and left it on a train or in a taxi on the way back home. I've had a number of cameras since but always had fond memories of the Spotmatic. So I got another one.

This one is a Honeywell where my old one was an Asahi. I think there are slight differences but it's been a while. I have:
Super Takumar 55/1.8
Super Takumar 28/3.5

I'm shooting a variety of film:
Fujia Superia for color shots (some is expired; I troll around on eBay with the goal of spending $1/roll; for some reason so far it's all been Fuji)
Kodak BW400CN and Ilford XP2 Super for C41 B&W (a local camera store will develop for $3/roll, and I have a film scanner)
Kodak T-Max because it's what I used in the 80s
And then I found my old bulk load cassettes that we used in school so I bought a loader that came with film in it; I got about 14 rolls out of that (some are 12 exp so I don't ruin too much with my developing skills)
And once I get my developing routine going I have a 100ft roll of Arista.edu in the freezer, and I will probably try some Orwo at some point also.

Enough of that, here's a picture of the new camera:

Ran the first roll through it today, it felt very familiar. However the viewfinder seemed a bit grainy, which I don't remember from before. Will bear watching.

And FWIW, I post my good shots here on Flickr: https://www.flickr.com/photos/119808237@N06/
