ME Super. Cleaning rear of viewfinder

I changed the light seals, and the mirror pad recently on a Pentax ME Super 35mm SLR. Although I did work on the mirror pad with the camera facing down, clumsy noob me, I've somehow fouled the focusing screen under the pentaprism - facing the mirror.

Can anyone please tell me how I can clean this? I've tried cleaning it with dry cotton buds but to no avail. Can I use any cleaning fluids, or soapy water, with the cotton buds on the focusing screen without causing any further damage?

Thank you for any replies.

Experience with Pentax - trying to understand Olympus

Sorry about asking here about Olympus, but I'm coming from a Pentax experience, so someone might be able to understand my confusion.

I'm very use to using a Pentax-M series lens, both on a digital K110D and a 35mm film ME Super. To set aperture, I simply rotate the aperture ring, and the diaphram opens/closes etc. The light meter looks through this? On my K110D I press the AE-L button and it sets the shutter speed for me according to its light metering. On the ME Super - the light meter readings through the viewfinder, respond as I operate the aperture ring, adjusting the shutter speed - increasing speed as I open it up, slowing it down as I close the aperture. Simple.

I bought a bargain Olympus OM10 35mm film SLR today at a car boot sale. The system is different and confuses me. It has the kit Zuiko OM 50mm lens. If I adjust the aperture ring - nothing happens. The diaphram only adjusts if I press what I understand to be a DoF preview button on the bottom right of the lens. It seems as though the body only closes the diaphram to the ring setting - when it takes an exposure. But the light meter doesn't seem to understand this, so gives a false reading in the viewfinder. If I look through the viewfinder, the light meter indicates the same shutter speed regardless of what I do with the aperture ring.

A different philosophy to the contemporary Pentax-M series? Can someone please put me out of my misery and give a dummie explanation?

Thank you so much.

Luftfluss - yeah I thought that I had hit the sharpening too hard, thanks.

Two earlier photos taken with Pentax K110D dslr (but I think an old Pentax-M lens):

Thanks all for comments.

Just adventuring into Fujifilm superior 200 35mm film. After scanning the print, I did digitally enhance levels and sharpening on Gimp (Ubuntu Linux) and may have overdone it? Jim is a fixture in this quiet English market town. Besides being a gentleman, he is a contender for best tramp (US English - bum?) in England. I think a hint of Elvis in there?

Hi. Newb to 35mm film and scanning.

I have a Pentax ME Super
I have computers with Ubuntu Linux as OS only
I have just been given a Canon MP190 flatbed scanner / printer.
I have licensed Vuescan running on Ubuntu, although Simple Scan and AcquireImages also work.

I can scan prints, that's great.

Can I use this flatbed to scan negatives? If so, how do I set up Vuescan please?

Any help on the best support forum for photography appreciated!

A shame, they use to be very good. Several years ago or more, I went into there to enquire about digital cameras. They told me that they just weren't good enough yet, and wouldn't sell them! How times have changed.

Thank you to all that have replied! The Ubuntu users forum produced zero replies in comparison.

It looks as though it is going to be difficult. Vuescan looks good, but it's a case of finding an affordable scanner that is compatable with Vuescan on Linux. At least Vuescan have a very good list of Linux supported scanners.

Do I really need a 35mm slide or even a photo scanner? The Canon Canoscan LiDE 25 is apparently easily compatible?

Vendee, pleased to meet you! And a Super ME owner as well. I moved from Thetford to the Wisbech area a few years ago. Don't Studio Five still develop colour film?

Another vote for Gimp and UFRaw. Some of the faceplates can be a tad bit tricky to use on my low res Net book (pre-installed with Windows XP, but I blitzed it with Ubuntu), but I use them for my photos.
