F lenses on K-1

If you like the looks of the F-series (I do) you should have your radar up for the SMC F 70–210mm f4–5.6. It's available every now and then on various sales sites, and for it's performance it's a lot of value for money.
Optically it's superb. Just watch out for mechanical problems. The zoom can get stiff, and one sample I bought literally fell apart when I took it out of the package. So if you can't try it before you buy it, be sure the seller has a good return policy.
If you get a good copy, I don't think there is any way to get more IQ per dollar.

D-FA* 85mm f1.4 also coming

No problema! I bought my A* 85 just for that. I was following a local group on their journey to fame (never reached the final station) in the eighties. (To the younger ones: "the eighties" refers to a decade in the previous century.) The lens is worn and torn on the outside. I've had it serviced once, and besides external looks it works just like day one. I used it as late as today, for concert shooting with my K-1. Just go out and knock it around!

It's in Swedish, but you'll get it anyway. Launched as an alternative Christmas Gift as opposed to the "official" one, VR glasses.

What Ricoh really should do, is to fire the entire executive staff and hire some 20 members from Pentax Forums. Then they would in an instant be the one market-leading imaging company not only on this planet but probably in the Milky Way. Why haven't they thought of that?

Now that we have FF, why so little interest in the 135 FL?

On APS-c I have used 85mm and 200mm for concert and theatre. Now that I've got a K-1 I'd certainly like to have a reasonably fast 135mm. How bulky would a f2 lens be?

D-FA* 85mm f1.4 also coming

You make pretty strong interpretations of my post, Pål. My "I'm a bit concerned" travels all the way to "obsessed" in your comment.
When light and portable is the top priority for me, I use my Samsung Galaxy J5. It does well for showing my son who lives in Finland what we had for dinner or how home improvements advance.
For "serious photography" (goddamn, it's a hobby!) :o I enjoy my K-1 very much. There are larger FF cameras out there. In previous eras Pentax successfully made full frame lenses that were much smaller than the competition. Just compare a 50mm f1.4 lens, A, F or FA, with what other makers had for their users. I'm just a bit sad that that doesn't appear to be a priority any longer. It's not an obsession, just a remark.

How soon will we see the successor to the K-1?

The K-1 is still a new model. I haven't had mine for a full year yet, and I do think I'm one of those who got it first outside Asia, not counting preproduction review samples. Others had to wait much longer since the first batch seems to have sold out in a few days.
On the other hand, I had been waiting for ten years and that was a long wait for sure. I'm still trying to learn all the features. Today I learnt how to transfer pictures from the camera to my phone, using ImageSync. Some excercise, took me a few hours before I got it right.

D FA 100 refresh?

Actually, I've got extension tubes that has the lever (Vivitar and Pentax branded), and also a set that has both the lever and the electronic contacts (no brand marking, just says "made in Japan"). Ebay finds. I also have an original Pentax screw-on close-up lens, as well as a Minolta ditto. Surprisingly high quality. Also Ebay finds.

D-FA* 85mm f1.4 also coming

Hmm, I'm a bit concerned.
When buying the K-1, I also decided to not buy more second hand lenses. I have the A* 85mm, and had been thinking of getting the FA* 85. And so I changed my mind and will only buy another lens if it's weather sealed and optimized for the digital sensor.
Handling the 150–450 mm, and seeing the new D-FA* 50mm I'm a bit concerned. Small and light have always been the Pentax speciality. That's why I chose the brand in the eighties, and that has been a reason to stay.
I'm not going to jump, but maybe I'll settle with what I've got or maybe look for the FA Limited trio if the new 50mm and 85mm points in a new design philosophy at Pentax' laboratory.

Adapting shift lenses for PK

The Pentax K 28mm f3.5 Shift isn't, as previously mentioned, redily available nor cheap, but it does work well with the K1. No problem with protruding parts and no overhang or hangover after use, at least not because of the lens.

Should we expect more D FA* zooms?

That's what I'm hoping for too. I think the f2.8 zooms are too bulky (and honestly, too pricey), and if I need faster than f4 I go prime.

More than one camera body?

Like Gorme I use two bodies for event shooting, like my schools christmas and summer shows which are always given twice (not enough room for all the students at the same time in the theatre). One with a 200mm lens, the other with an 85mm for the first show. Then from the other side of the room with a 50mm and a 35mm for second edition. Doing that I can put together a slide show with a variety of viewing angels and close-ups/full stage pictures. Those who watch the slide show and see one picture of a singer and then a picture from another angle with the whole band, can't see that there is an hour between the two shots. Last time I used the K-1 and the K5, before that the K5 and my old beloved *ist DS. The *ist DS definitely is outdated (but I keep it for nostalgy), but the K5 delivers like ever before.

About Pentax presence in shops or online:
I've only seen two K-1s in real life. The one I tried at the Hässleholm Nature Photo Festival, which made me pre-order one for myself. And then a second one in the store where I picked my pre-ordered one up - and that was the one I took with me home and still use.
To see a Pentax camera irl that you don't own yourself is a true privilege.

Rectilinear or fisheye? "Rectilinear" with a severe barrel distortion? If it's reasonably rectilinear it's really mouthwatering!

Imagine life if all the legacy FA* come back to life in D-FA* form...

I'm on a quagmire writing anything on this subject, as my knowledge is very far from that of an engineer, but I also think that the old designs actually are a bit obsolete. I use, with uttermost delight, vintage lenses like the A* 85mm, the A* 200mm and the F* 300mm with my K-1. But simply putting new coatings, weather sealing and in-lens AF motors on these isn't either as easy or as cheap as it might seem.
What I'm eagerly waiting for, is an affordable, standard D-FA zoom with f4 aperture, like type 28-90mm for everyday casual use.
And then some high-end prime lenses, D-FA* from 35 to 300mm, and of course a new D-FA* 200mm Macro. Lenses you can save up money for, and buy one by one when your partner (wife or husband) is looking in an other direction.
Some old lenses are fantastic, but nevertheless old. You can't see what's in front of you, if you keep looking back.

Who cares about DPR? Pentax, any model, is definitely the most popular brand on Pentax Forums, the only truly unbiased photo forum on the net.
I know, because once someone put a Nikon in my hands and asked me to do the shooting of the event. I'll never put myself through such an excercise again.
