Any tips for Moon shots with K-70 and 150-450 combo?

The 150-450 is not a light lens. You want a tripod with a bit of heft to hold it. And a head with a bit of heft too.

Assuming your tripod is the weak link you can set it up with the legs not extended too far to reduce wobble.

Here's my last moonshot. K1 with DA300 and 1.4TC and a Manfrotto tripod with a Manfrotto joystick head. I'm looking forward to getting a DFA 150-450 and a gimbal head for more stablity. The joystick in nice for BIF but not quite steady enough for lots of applications.

I got the TG5 a while back. Rolling environmental disasters and a pandemic kinda got in the way of getting it wet. Hopefully this summer.

Can we share photos that aren't exactly from a Pentax camera here?

A friend has narrowed it down: Cordyline stricta

The Cordyline Page - Cabbage Palms

My macro has been my favourite lens during the ever ending lockdowns. The overgrowing garden is revealed as a forest through the macro lens.

I have inherited my mother's garden but not her knowledge of it (or her love of gardening for that matter).

Anyone know what this is?

Buy the K1.

The chances of buyer regret are zero.

How did you become a Pentaxian ?

I started with Pentax and just kept going with it.

I decided to get a DSLR in 2005 or 2006 and read a review of the K100D by Terry Lane, who raved about it and said it was the equal of cameras that were twice the price.

I was disappointed it didn't have a rechargeable battery but otherwise thought it was great. When it died, I got a K7, which was a big improvement, then a K3, which was another big improvement, then a K1.

My cat frequently posts comments like that. A lot of people find them more intelligent than mine.

I have had the DA 200mm forever. It was admittedly my least favourite lens until I moved to FF with the K1. Now I love it.

I have just added another 10/10 review so the average will be creeping up.

I have. Recommended. Not a long book and fairly accessible by French standards.

I have got some OK shots with the K1 and DA 300mm in middle suburbia.

Back in lockdown - no 6 - so I might be doing some more bright sky astro over coming days.

Wild Places by Robert Macfarlane

They will open your eyes to British landscapes and the animals that dwell in them.

Also Vesper Flights by Helen Macdonald, who used to live in your neck of the woods.

The K1 is the bomb.

Perfect for landscapes, portraits and still life.

Great for astro.

Good for wildlife if you can deal with the slightly sluggish auto focus.

What is your dream Pentax lens?

My dream come true lenses are the FA77 and DA300.

I would love to have a DFA500mm F4 or F5.6. A Sigma 500mm F4 in K mount would also be a dream lens. Pity I didn't get one while they still existed.

FA 77mm F1.8 if you can find the dough.

One of the most highly rated Pentax lenses that sprinkles pixie dust over every shot.

Example shot attached. I rest my case.

Starting from scratch - K3 lll or K1 ll?

You want the K3iii.

I have a K1 and I love it but I am thinking about getting the K3iii as a second body for wildlife.

The crop factor and the superior autofocus are huge selling points.

I'm just near Karkarook Park and heading there right now to see if I can catch a sunset.

If you are south of the Yarra/ Birrarung it is worth checking out. I have spotted over 50 species there.

Love or loathe camera clubs/societies?

I went to one meeting of the oldest camera club in my town. It was a mid week night time meeting to take portrait shots with strobes. Incredibly unwelcoming. The head honcho was very low on social skills and the established members pushed in front of me in the queue to photograph. Zero welcome for newbies.

A week before the next scheduled meeting the head honcho emailed me a PDF of the form I had signed undertaking to provide images by the next meeting. Hardly a friendly early reminder. I sent the images and decided against going to the next meeting. I pay to learn from expert photographers and that works for me. I mostly prefer my own company when shooting, unless, obviously, I am photographing people.

Tripod and gimbal for DFA 150-450

I have Manfrotto 055 aluminium legs. Sturdy but heavier than I would like.

I will be getting a Sirui PH10 gimbal to replace my Manfrotto joystick which drifts too much for astro and doesn't move quickly enough for BIF.

I have a monopod with a Sirui head for most BIF stuff, when I want more support than handholding but more flexibility than a tripod.

I had a chat with a sports photographer who switched from some Canikon body or other to the 645Z when it came out. He said it made his job much easier, because he could crop to his heart's content and still always have enough detail.

When I had to give up my K3 I found the 15mp available when using my K1 in crop mode was a little restricting compared to 24mp.

I have fallen out of love with my Manfrotto joystick head and think a gimbal head might do a better job for holding the DA 300mm/ 1.4X TC combo still.

Does anyone use and recommend one?

HD Pentax DA 560mm f/5.6 ED AW replacement : what are your thoughts ?

I would save hard to get my hands on one of them. Even a 400mm F4 prime would be the bomb. Paired with the K3iii and 1.4X TC it would have plenty of reach.
