This could be the year I get a replacement for my trusty K10D -- I wouldn't get much for it if I tried to sell it, probably best to keep it as a backup body.

I've got an MEsuper with similar symptoms. I discovered that holding it upside down when I wind on makes it work more better.

Sorry to read so many people are having trouble with their order.

I ordered on 4/25; they generated the shipping order very quickly, but didn't actually hand the shipment over to FedEx till 5/3. It arrived 5/10.

News New Marketplace Policy Regarding Payments

One could argue that they (gift payments for a merchandise sale) are the sign of two scammers -- both seller and buyer who are attempting to scam PayPal out of their fee.

You don't have to like PayPal terms, but they are clear.

I believe the ring flash WOULD work in TTL mode on the *istD (and older models), since that camera uses TTL as opposed to pTTL.

Of course, to work with the *istD would require the Pentax TTL module fitted -- not "probably fitted", but "fitted".

You're welcome.

btw, I forgot to mention: the TTL setting generates a full dump on my K10D. (This is exactly what I would expect from a TTL system that pre-dates the pTTL protocol.) I've been toying with a small circuit to build a manual controller so I can choose full, 1/2, 1/4, etc, but I sort of lost interest somewhere around spring. Maybe when winter arrives I'll get back to it.

I have the exact same ring-light with my Lester Dine 105mm/2.8 macro.

Using a step-up ring (or maybe it's step-down, I can never remember which way the naming is arranged) it also works fine with my Tokina ATX 90mm/2.5 macro, haven't experienced any vignetting.

TBH, even if there were vignetting I seldom pose a macro subject in the corner of the frame so it wouldn't matter to me.

Correct, these are identical optically to the Kiron 105mm/2.8 and the Vivitar Series 1 105mm/2.5 macro lenses, all built by Kino Precision (owner of the Kiron name).

I have the same kit, without the camera. This is one superb lens.

The ring flash probably has the Pentax TTL module fitted, but be aware this is not digital TTL. The "Auto" mode works pretty well (using the flash unit's built-in detector), but flash exposure is not controlled by the camera in this mode, and you have to use the aperture the flash unit expects.

Wanted - Acquired: Adaptall-to-K mount adapter

The best source of data on Adaptall lenses I know of is adaptall-2.org -- THIS LINK takes you to the page for the model 360B ...

Sounds pretty good to me!

Attaching and detaching the 2x converter (and the mount adapter when you get one) should never be a struggle, but if you don't know the technique it can become one. I once had a link to a PDF of the manual pages showing how to do it, maybe a Google search will find one.

Whatever you do, don't force it!

... here's a low-res shot of the manual pages ... http://www.flickr.com/photos/nesster/415470981/

... and here's a good informative post ... https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-slr-lens-discussion/101240-adaptal...ml#post1040982

To get full use of the lens (P, Av, etc, modes) you will need an Adaptall-2 PK/A adapter like the one excanonfd refers to. These do get expensive - I paid around $90 each for the ones I got from eBay a few years ago.

If you only want/need M exposure mode, both original Tamron and 3rd party PK adapters are available much cheaper (often below $20).

For the lens you've found (and I am envious!) the PK/A adapter is the way I'd go. If you had one of the mirror lenses (fixed f/8) it would be pointless paying the extra.

BTW, which version of the 300/2.8 is it? I think Tamron made 3 models, 107B, 60B and 360B - getting progressively better optical performance with each revision.

Best regards,

Duncan

Thanks for the hint on select-all, it changes which colours blend with the background so those scores I couldn't make out do become easier to read.

Since you asked for ideas ... perhaps apply the colour coding to a small image used as a background, with the score in black type on top ... such as:

It might just be my eyes are getting worse, but I'm finding it difficult to make out some of the ratings in the lens and camera review listings, e.g. in the Pentax A Series Prime Lenses the numbers in the "Rating" column are hard to make out.

I understand the idea of using different colours to reflect the rating, but perhaps changing the style so it doesn't apply a shadow to the text would improve legibility?

Can you define "reasonable"?

The ones I see sold on eBay were $125 to $160, which to me seems reasonable for this lens in decent condition.

Help on a set up for marco with M42 extension tubes on K-x

the genuine Pentax one is HERE

not all of the cheap ones allow you to reach infinity focus when you're using just the lens -- it doesn't matter if you plan to always use an extension tube, but maybe one day you would like to see what your lens can do for non-macro subjects

also, some of the cheap ones require tools to get them in and out of the camera body -- the one made by Pentax doesn't

Help on a set up for marco with M42 extension tubes on K-x
Posted By duncsuss

I see 3 possibilities:

1) lens is K mount: sell these tubes, buy K mount extension tubes

2) lens is M42 screwmount: buy the Pentax M42/K mount adapter, it fits in between your camera body and the first item screwed into it (whether that is simply the lens or an extension tube then the lens)

3) lens is neither K mount nor M42 screwmount: buy the Pentax M42/K mount adapter, it fits between your camera body and the extension tube. Also buy an M42 49mm reverse adapter, fit it to the end of the extension tube, and screw your lens into it by the front filter thread.
