Fingers crossed for a nice re-do of the 35f2. I like the lens, would like an updated one, especially with WR. Also would like a 20mm 2.8, a 24 F2.8 and a 28 f2.8, WR as well (yes, that's greedy on the wide side).

Thanks, I'll check it out. I find the flash pretty easy to use so far, but it's better to learn all the features, of course.

Compare to a live view shot of the same, and then a manual focus live view shot on a tripod using electronic shutter. You can then start worrying about shutter shock too. : )

Seriously though, it will help you to see if the focus is working properly at all. My guess is the shot will be sharper.

The new small Godox arrived for B&H. Seems to be a nice, quality little unit, a great deal for $80. So far I've just used it with the 35 f2 on my K1 and my Ricoh GRll. On the K1 TTL seems to work, but on the GRll it's manual only (though HSF mode works in manual). The GRll does not indicate that a flash is attached, but it still triggers it.

This is a photo with the K1 at 1/800, f2.5 in high speed mode, bouncing off the ceiling, then one with the same settings with the flash off. The third just shows what it looks like on the GR.

Shake Reduction with K-1

I haven't noticed that with my K1 and *50, but shutter shock issues are sometimes hard to nail down. The lens is interesting to me. I have one shot taken from up high with people down below on a path, very small in the photo, everything sharp at around f 6.3. When I zoom in on them they look like 3d models.

Vibration reduction in mirror Lock-up vs. Live View on a K-1 Mark ii

Shutter shock is weird and not always predictable, because it seems to vary so much by user and lens/body combination. I was a doubter for a year or so with my Olympus EM1, which always seemed sharp. Then they issued a firmware fix that allowed 2nd curtain electronic shutter and all of a sudden my photos were even sharper, easily visible. With my K1 I mostly don't see it, but I know that doesn't mean it isn't there. For me, what I find is that the camera works best if allowed to "settle" into a scene for a half second or so. If I quickly move my K1 to my eye and snap a shot, it often comes out with what looks like serious shutter shock, probably because the SR hasn't functioned properly.

It will be interesting to see how it plays out. Seems like a smart move if you want it to be less of a social media site and more of a photographer centric site and keep up enough cash flow. Could be they were losing out too much with the "free" social media model to Facebook/Instagram.

Anyone use an Expodisk for a K1 Mark ii or experience with the Expodisk period?

I have something like expodisc, same concept, with a handle. At first I thought it helped, but then I realized it was making all my photos too warm. Maybe it would be better at twilight and night, not sure.

It says on the website to just fill out the form and they will notify when they are ready, so I'm guessing there is a line.

So, I still haven't upgraded my K1. Have any folks that upgraded regretted it? I know about the focusing benefits, and the slight detail loss at higher iso (to me it looks so slight to be a non issue). I'm slightly more concerned about the reported purple cast when raising shadows a lot (I occasionally do that). Thoughts and advice? I'm leaning towards upgrading, but could just as easily save the $550 for a lens.

Hmmm, I have the 20mm f4 K lens, super sharp but horribly soft on the left side ( decentered I suppose). I wonder if I could just pack it up, send it, and hope for the best...

Tablet Recommendations (Pen Variety Possibly...)

My wife got the 12 inch iPad pro through her job and I installed Lightroom on it. Works quite well. The tablet itself is a delight, very powerful, but not at all compact except for being thin. It's the first tablet I could see using as a laptop replacement (while keeping a desktop). I haven't tried the smaller version.

The pen also works well, and I really like the controversial keyboard. To me it feels perfect. Some hate it.

DFA 50* 1.4 on the mountains

Beautiful, natural looking photographs. For me too, it leaves me really wanting a wider version, like a 35, of the same quality. Probably be as big, but oh well. I'd take a slower 35, like f2, if that made it a little smaller and the quality was still there.

Yeah, you end up going to extremes to improve a 50mm lens much. I do wish they had a DFA water resistant full frame line of f2 lenses like Fuji's. Could be Limiteds, or not. Just nice, modern smaller primes that would appeal to both full frame and aps-c users.

All the shots were handheld. The IQ is there if you find the few places where it's actually in focus. The depth of field is quite narrow. Would likely be a little more perfect with a tripod.

Looks great, very nicely layered. I love shooting in the woods. I have tons of shots from the past ten years under the canopy with all sorts of gear. Some of my best shots were taken with the very poorly DXO rated Olympus 4/3 cameras like the 420, 620 and E5. A camera with a lens and a workable tri-pod are the most important tools, and maybe bug spray.

My favorite kind of shooting. I like the way it renders. The contrast makes the black and white shots stand out, I think. Shot at f8-f10, with the last one I think at f2.5

Comparing DFA* 50mm with 50mm f2.8 MACRO

My FA 50 macro 2.8 is an excellent lens. Before the DFA 50 1.4 arrived, it was my most technically well-behaved lens, edge to edge. But now it has returned to mainly macro duty, where it works well. The new lens doesn’t blow it away at the same apertures, but I do like it more.
