Well, congrats to you, Tom S.

I hope we see a mini-review of it as you put it through its paces.

Samyang is an interesting case, actually. They seem to have a lot of resources, while, at the same time, still looking at the books for different markets. They're not that big overall in Europe, but various countries have bigger penetration by them, typically just slightly east and slightly west of Germany.

Please keep it on topic. Moderators should especially not be creating flamebait.

I don't know. Is this a moderator taking a shot?

If so, please keep it on topic. The thread has been quite constructive so far.

Might as well. Most won't give Pentax a chance because they can't tolerate that 'Ricoh' on the screen.

Many of them are actually testing in person, or via their own peer circles in the business. Luckily, Canon and Nikon have rental programs, too. The real test, as so many even say here, is how it actually performs in your hands, your lenses, your own conditions.

I'm still waiting for Ricoh Germany to get any floor samples anywhere of the K-3. They released four onto the German forums, which are being hoarded from friend to friend there, so if you don't know anyone, you're SOL. Not a good showing if the manufacturer can't even get test samples out there to the general public through their dealer network.

The other problem with interviews, especially semi-spontaneous ones, is the lack of truthfulness and a glut of political answers, where they mostly pretend to answer something, but upon closer analysis, they aren't.

I actually think this is a good idea.

It puts Ricoh on the spot, so to speak, especially on a forum like this, which can have lots of sway over how things go with their imaging division.

With heavy-handed moderation, including over ridiculous requests, perhaps it could be workable.

And I think it could be a good thing for them.

I have to ask- why is DPR the be all, end all?

We have several people here spamming DPR to get people to visit this forum and they spout off on its legitimacy, so why isn't the review from here being pushed as the legitimate one, especially since DPR doesn't have one yet?

DPR=Amazon. Nothing more, nothing less. It's an elaborate storefront, much like this one is for BH and Adorama. Both sites are driven by what they can sell. This one, more restricted, however, to a Pentax scope, so why not push this review here?

And Ricoh needs to be hit with what the former-Pentax infrastructure failings are. I've discussed realistically my market's problems with the Ricoh distro, and then been slammed for it (mostly in those private areas of the forum). This is what Ricoh needs to see. They don't read this forum. People need to take it to them direct.

That's their job, not yours. You don't get paid for it. You and other 'team players' won't get them significant sales enough to compel third parties to produce lenses. That effort will come from the source. Such campaigns will ensure sustainability of the brand enough where third parties will assume the risk associated with this. For instance, Zeiss has much less to do to keep ZK lenses running, especially with what they cost, but they don't. This should point you to how little demand there is and how much of the burden relies on now Ricoh and not word or mouth. In fact, ZK lenses are mostly heavily discounted out here, as NOS.

Unfortunately, it won't. Now, for instance, the K-01 became some ridiculous best-seller in Japan and that didn't drive anyone to even consider anything. Right now, we should be lucky that Sigma is giving us the 35 1.4 and the 18-35 and keeping most-all of their current line up. Same for Tamron.

Regardless, you have a K-3, so if you're frustrated, I think you should put together your own proper review and promotional campaign for it. Don't wait for others to do it and be perpetually frustrated (look at how many DPR reviews going back a couple years on even major manufacturers are still in the preview phase. D4?).

DPR is not the be-all, end-all.

And in my market, a review won't help in the least, since my region's distributor don't particularly do much for the brand. We have an infrastructure problem here that consumers that think they are on a brand's 'team' can't resolve. Only Ricoh can and they need some time to do it. And unfortunately, that is the nature of big corporations- endless meetings, operational lag. They need to keep what works in Pentax's infrastructure, remove the what doesn't. That will take years of corporate meetings, unfortunately. And that is not a snipe or a joke.

The fact that you feel you have to do this, while made acceptable somehow in this area, signals problems and the years of neglect of this brand. It's not a start up in need of grassroots and crowdfunding and other forms of charity. Ricoh needs to be incentivized to push the brand and make it perform and hopefully they see such things as profits as incentive enough.

Pentax service in Finland

Pros are not really using Pentax.

Incorrect. It would be akin to you, in South Africa, sending your camera to any one of a couple bordering countries, with different languages, currencies, and higher shipping charges, even if just a short distance outside the border.

A good thing for them.

Eurozone =/= Sweden

Rather interesting to see even Europeans don't know the difference, which will be referenced on another forum I'm on.

And I'm in the DE/AT/CH covered region and the distro is a complete disaster. At least you guys might have some guarantee of service. If I buy another Pentax, I'll get it via the French or BENELUX distributor, even with higher shipping charges. It doesn't make any sense to buy anything from the German distro, even if in DE/AT/CH. Their level of service is just barely above them being closed down, so it's not going to be much of a loss. The best is watching them ignore sales emails, while playing on Facebook.

Two card slots are not totally make or break, but nice to have. Focus peaking can be implemented and Sony has proven it can be done with the sensor, but the hardware is another story. Same for 30fps.

I have no need for 24MP, unless it comes with the same or better low-light performance. So far, the K-3 has not shown this (extra noise and banding). Larger files are not needed, either. The K-5II's AF system might be improved for low light and more accurate. I get on fine with the K-5, so -3eV would be fantastic.

I want mainly no AA.

Would love to convert my K-5 to a neutral glass, but, as I saw, it's not an easy, nor cheap task and doesn't work properly anyhow.

I'd likely go for a K-5IIIs.

I'm already on the edge with pushing low-light too far, without going to FF, so a slight bump there would be nice. As it is, the slightly poorer low-light from the K-3 is sadly a dealbreaker, even with the fantastic improvements.

I wasn't attacking you.

I only quoted you. The problem is all these threads draw out filter zealots who don't want anyone to ever use filters, even when the rationale is well-reasoned. They become quite militaristic in forcing their opinions down everyone's throats.

A. use them if you think you need them for any purpose
B. know how much they degrade/ater the IQ in the real world, not internet photography, as most people here are.
C. know when to take the filter off for critical shooting (most of the filter zealots act like once the filter goes on, it's permanently bonded and one can never go back. I take mine off for critical shoots)
D. Use good, multi-coated filters

As proof I wasn't attacking you, I use filters and you can check my post history on that and how/when I use mine. You will never have a reason good enough for the internet photographers. You could be in sandstorms and they'll never concede.

The last time I put in a BBB claim, it was against Acer and I was a busy student. I filled out the form electronically, the BBB did their thing, then Acer's corporate attorney called me back the next week. I had the parts in my hand the next day. He also begged me to update the BBB report so it was entered as "satisfied", or whatever it was.

If you can't do that, I can't offer any suggestions.

Better Business Bureau.

You will see Ricoh being very prompt with this claim thereafter. I have previously used the BBB for such issues and they're pretty fantastic.

Simply make sure you put in a reasonable and goodwill effort for a resolution.

Don't be surprised if the corporate attorney contacts you to make the resolution until you're satisfied.

Again, I posted the list of dealers. The OP has less of a chance of shooting in the dark by going there. For the most part, it's nearly impossible to find stocking dealers, including authorized dealers, for lenses. Bodies, yes, maybe a DA40 and a host of kit lenses, but little more. It depends on where the OP will be and they have to check the shops. I was recently in Frankfurt at an authorized dealer, and they nearly laughed at me and went back to what they were doing when I asked if they had any Pentax lenses.
