Pentax powerzoom FA* 1:2:8 28-70mm

Yes, this is exactly what I have been searching for during yesterday. And came to the same conclusion. I have been also comparing the switches of other power zoom lenses (FA 28-80mm F3.5-4.7, FA 28-105mm F4-5.6, FA 70-200mm F4-5.6, FA 100-300mm F4.5-5.6, FA* 28-70mm F2.8 AL, FA* 80-200mm F2.8 ED [IF], FA* 250-600mm F5.6 ED [IF]) and they seem to differ.
I found some other posts about repairing the switch within the same lens but none discussing inter-compatibility between lenses.
I will try to contact Eric as suggested.

thanks a lot for your help

Thank you for your responses.
Let's consider now the second part of my post. Would it be possible to repair the lens "cosmetically" with the spare parts from other cheaper lens? It would not offer me more functionality for the DSLR but the lens could look OK.
Would this also fix the additional functions for standard SLR?

Haven't found a earlier post discussing this. I hope it is fine posting on this older thread

I am interested on fixing power zoom on FA* 1:2:8 28-70mm. I have found that the power zoom should work on K-5 and it seems it should also work on new K-3.
The lens autofocus still functions fine but the power zoom button/switch is completely missing. Is there anyway how to fix it? As the lens has been made only till 2004 there will be no spare parts. But would there be a way to use the parts from another cheaper lens (e.g. 28-80)?

thanks for you help

K-5 SD card pictures disapeared

@turff: This is exactly what I wanted to discuss. Is this a normal issue which is occurring because of the camera or the sd card or something else?
In my case it happened on Transcend SDHC Card, 32GB, Class 10. In three years I have used K-x, K-r and latest K-5 and this is the first time something like this happened.

I have just run the photorec and it found majority of the picture.
I will also later try the other programs and if any of those have been more / less successful.

I will try to recover once I am back home. Recuva would be the first I will try. PhotoRec would follow.

SD has been opened by ordinary windows explorer under MS Windows 7

K-5 SD card pictures disapeared

Just today I have returned back home from photo shooting and the pictures are not on the SD card. while taking pictures, the SD card was in the slot, no problems reported by camera, I could view the pictures while the card was in the camera. I am taking pictures in RAW

I have used the same card yesterday and all the pictures have been in and are still in the card. When I plugged the SD card back into camera, the picture are also not available in the camera anymore.

The today's folder also exists in the card, but it is just empty. I am having the K-5 for a year now and this has never happened.

Do you have any suggestions? Might use some undelete program to restore them or is it more serious?

Sorry if this has been already resolved in other post,

I have received K-r few days ago and so far

I have not noticed the front focusing problem so far till I did not start to play with camera under tungsten light. I can confirm what I read before: "Before the service a -10 in the AF adjustment wasn't enough to fix the FF." I will most probably bring the camera to the service since it is 30 minutes drive from where I live.

Anyway, camera is focusing faster and better in most situations than K-x and the bigger LCD is also much nicer. I just have to get used to switching the focusing points which was different on K-x.

I am having same Sigma lens as you and cannot report any troubles.

I am not so fast to see moving view in viewfinder nor to hear the sound.
Anyway, if you are really concerned just contact sigma support to check and repair.

I definitely stick to Pentax, I shoot a lot indoor so for me the tungsten is a high concern but if this could be handled with switching between AWB and tungsten white balance it would be OK.

I was not aware that this was hardware problem, seems strange to me.

If it is hardware how come that they are able to partially fix it with tungsten WB? I also do not understand, why the AWB could not have a software routine which would automatically consider tungsten WB.

I am aware of this issues and this was the biggest concern why not to change. But I am not sure is the same is not on K-x. Mine K-x is also having problem with AF in low light. to be more precise, sometimes I also have feeling that it is not
I would say this is more about feelings of some users.

Front focusing was also mostly reported to be under AWB mode, so if you change to Tungsten white balance it should not appear.

not sure what is the value of the lens but if it is not a lot you can try to disassemble by your self.
I would try to get a price estimate for repair by a local repair shop and than proceed by my self.
I have recently disassemble and cleaned Meyer Optic Domiplan 50mm f/2.8 which is worth few euros. Assembling is harder than disassembling :-). Funny challenging exercise.

As having kinds I mostly shoot pictures with them, I find it very challenging. No poses, just pure action.

Nice shot. Seems like enough light on the girls face even thou she is in shade.
In such light condition I would maybe tried to highlight the girl with build in flash on -2.

K-x upgrade to K-r

Yes I have been thinking of this for a half a year now and still questioning. The reason why I want to switch (upgrade) is that K-r shall longer keep its value, while K-x has still a decent value to be sold. Technically I want to switch because of what mention Mystic:

I have never (really never) used the LV mode, I tried it and found totally unusable. The camera is mostly used by my wife for making pictures of our kids therefore quicker AF is huge improvement. For my wife is also important the focus indicator. She saw it once on some friends camera and from then she always questions.

This was exactly the approach I was considering.
I try to limit the ISO always up to 800, afterwards the noise is noticeable.K-5 is another league and out of our abilities (and money). Makes no sense to buy it.

I am planing to upgrade my K-x to K-r and would like to know your opinion.
Do you find it better, easier to sell the body with or without kit lens (e.g. DA L 18-55)?

I do have set of lenses but all I want to keep. I do not have a kit lens (e.g. 18-55). If it would be worth, I would rather buy the K-r with kit lens and sell the K-x with this lens afterwards.

The price of this lens is quite cheep in the kit with body and would maybe add some value to the K-x body while selling.

what kit lens you are referring to?
I own Sigma 17-70 and it is a great lens. good optically, good mechanically, just bit too big in size and heavy.

Since I also own Pentax DA 55-300 (focal length overlap), I would rather consider Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 now which seems bit superior in image sharpness.

I am not able compare to Pentax DA 18-55, 17-70, 16-45

I know about two comparison website in the Netherlands which could help you a bit. Maybe they contain also some normal shop, not just internet shops

http://tweakers.net
www.vergelijk.nl

Both of these sites include www.fotobooms.nl which seems to be in Amsterdam and reachable during day and reliable.
