Going by its size, I'm fairly sure this was a relatively young jumper; |

I was up earlier than the bugs this morning, so I gave a flower refraction shot a go through the lawns dew. It's an idea I took from Lord V who does some amazing work. For those that haven't seen his work (although I'm sure a lot of you have), look up 'lord v' on flickr. |

Amazing photo of what looks like an amazing place. That lake with those kayaks looks so inviting.

Thanks guys.
I say 'warming up' not to be cocky, but I wasn't happy with how the spider was off to the side. It was more of an excuse than anything, lol.
I've just upgraded my rig to accommodate some more magnification, so I'm starting to experiment with that. I need a brighter flash it seems if I want to get any closer.
I'm just using an old Sunpak 1600 held off to the side on a side grip.

Not a fancy composition or anything, just practicing some higher magnifications.
Handheld, 28mm reversed on about 25mm of tubes. |

I just updated my rig with an off camera flash. Rather than being scared of the flash hanging over them the spiders were more curious.
This one simply looked at it; though the spider I found before this had a knack for jumping onto it...making it impossible to photograph. Got this one though, checking out the flash... |

It looks like some kind of lynx spider, but I don't know much beyond that.
Good shot though!

I have been on a bit of a hiatus lately, I'm going to blame winter and a lack of insects. But I'm working on getting back into it, I just invested in a new lens and flash bracket which haven't arrived yet. And a K-5 may also be on the cards. Here's a few I found today after a small rain shower. |

A friend and myself went to check out the old Collingwood Brewery today. It's been locked up tight now, with galvo iron over the windows on the ground and first floor. So we could only admire the building from the outside.
We did manage to scale a wall nearby and make it into another part of the brewery not attached to the main building or silos. Was surprised to find a trampoline in there. Urbex and similar photography is not really my field, but something I'm definitely keen to develop my eye in. |

It's basically a rectangular prism made of cardboard, with white plastic covering one end. I just fit it over the built in flash and it pulls the light over the subject.

This stink bug was flying around in my kitchen, after catching it I put it on our basil plant outside and took some shots. It was night time, so difficult to see through the view finder with the reversed lens, so I only got one good shot; |

"I am so scared! I don't know what's out there. We are going to die out here! I am so scared!"
It looks best against black on Flickr.

Sorry I haven't been contributing here much lately, I just finished moving interstate.
I found this Mantis near my building...
As I don't have a backyard any more, I'm going to get less opportunities to pursue my insect photography. Which I'm some what disappointed about. It was a mighty relief to find this Mantis.

I was thinking the same thing. Reminds me of the under belly of the ships in Independence Day.
Good shot!

Looks good, Yeatzee. You get some awesome jumpers with it. I haven't seen very many jumpers, must be too hot for them in my area at the moment. I'm looking forward to autumn, I'll hopefully start to see more of them then.
I'm looking to get a flash bracket soon also, is it difficult to work with (especially in tight areas like some garden spots)?
