Small falls on a stream near Chamber's Lake, CO. This little drainage was probably burned over rather hard a few weeks ago, as this was in the path of the Cameron Peak Fire. Glad we got to see it this summer

Our family did a week on the Olympic peninsula last summer. That place has it all - mountains, beaches, waterfalls, rain forests and monster trees. I loved the huge trees. Hard to do them justice in images, but here are two of my favorites from the week. The first is a spruce at the Lake Crescent lodge. My 8 year old leaning against the trunk gives it a little scale. The second is a group of the three massive trunks among the carpet of green in the rain forest.

Took a nice walk in the neighborhood park to check out the new, heavy snow before it melted away. Spring is close, but winter is holding on. I have been looking for a repeatable shot for the four seasons near home, and this could be it. We'll see if I remember when spring comes for real and in the summer. Thanks for checking it out.

I'll keep with the icy theme, following Matt's shot, which is really nice, and makes me cold just looking at. This is Boulder Falls. First time there.

This handsome guy decided to hang out in our neighbor's tree last Saturday, right over our back fence. Pretty amazing to have him so close, about 25 feet off the ground. He stayed for about 20 minutes. I think it took the neighborhood yard bunnies about an hour to come out from hiding.

Sandpiper (at least I think that's what he/she is) hunting in the wet sand. Love watching these birds chase the retreating water at the beach.

I wonder if the vacationers who contracted this rental beach tent were supposed to bring it in during high winds.... A big, relatively sudden thunderstorm (some of us saw it coming) rolled through this beach town last week and left a trail of destroyed rental tents. Amusing and a little sad.

This storm was about a month ago. Seen here from the west side as it moved northeast towards Greeley, CO. I think it spawned one tornado and dropped a bunch of hail. I do not usually convert to b&w, but thought it suited this one. DW19

Got to see my first tornado on Sunday afternoon! We were driving through Divide, CO on highway 24 and spotted this off to the north. We were a nice safe distance of maybe 10 miles. We got to watch for about 20 minutes as it made it's way eastward. This one and an other tornado on the same day in Fairplay, CO were very rare high elevation twisters (about 9,000 feet above sea level). I have a few shots at 200mm, but I like the view with a liitle more of the landscape included. My K5 got some great video as well.

Had the chance to visit a piece of Arizona this spring. First time seeing the Grand Canyon. Photos, of course, do not do that place justice. I tried my best though and here are two of my attempts from along the south rim. The third is from the also impressive Antelope Canyon. We did a tour late in the day and had only a little light left for the walk out. The trade off was having the place to myself for a few minutes. Look forward to going back for the photographers' tour with more light. Enjoy - DW

I was in Grand Junction, CO a few weeks ago and watched these fire-fighting planes circling over head about every 30 minutes. I think they were working either the 416 fire near Durango, or one of the large fires southeast of Moab, UT that week. I made it up to the airport to watch this one land for the evening. DW19

Hi - The family and I took a nice trip to Falmouth, MA (Cape Cod) a few weeks ago. This type of shot was a big goal for my trip. After playing with shutter speeds in Oregon last fall, I was excited to see the ocean and try again. It proved a little tough to get away on my own with my camera (I took about 250 of my kids and their cousins playing on the beach, but no one wants to see those...). Given that I only had 15 minutes during the week-long trip to run over to this private beach (no one saw me:)) where the remnants of this old pier (victim of Super Storm Sandy) were calling to me to take this shot, I am very happy with it. I am undecided if the cormorant ghosts add or distract. Thanks for looking.
