Do you even consider balancing your camera on a tripod?

Not too far off from the Astrophotography telescope folks. I have seen buildings with the floor cut out to permit a concrete pillar to come out of the ground in a foundation of nearly that size.

It got me too. I thought the user was confusing the DFA 50 up with a new DFA 35... whoops!

There ARE times I prefer to balance the lens and camera. Moon shots for example are easier if I don't have to fight the tripod every time I unlock it and it wants to tilt down - with a lot of magnification it is annoying to have to adjust the tension so high this isn't a problem so I prefer a more balanced position.

Do you have the latest firmware? Also have you tried switching lenses. Sometimes the lens can be at fault. I'd clean both the lens and the mount on the camera to be sure nothing intermittent was involved due to hard to see grime. Then I'd try it again.

Ah ha! In that case no amount of fine focus fixing is going to work. Live View doesn't use the adjustments because they are only needed for PDAF optical focusing. If it won't focus on Live view acceptably it won't focus on optical acceptably. Get a different lens.

There have been a few projects in that vein in kickstarter, but nothing with enough appeal and quality.

That focal length has the potential to be useful in both APSC and FF more than 85 would. But the existing DA* 55 is more practical for an APSC user and cheap by comparison.

One of the annoying things about zooms is that this can happen. Just to verify all is ok otherwise, does live view give sharp focus at all focal lengths and distances with the zoom?

Honestly I would think that a well balanced head would be less dampened than a loaded one. Any ringing in the system is likely to be dampened by the biased loading. At least that what I feel like should happen. You might try testing this by setting up the tripod and using both methods and then take some shots. If adventurous you could try to induce a repeatable vibration.

KIRON KINO 24mm F2 MC & 1.5X Match Mate MC & Reverse Macro Mate.. Pentax K mount | eBay

This is a buy it now so I don't feel bad about posting it. (Not my sale, no affiliation)
If you collect Kiron this looks like a nice find. I have no idea if this price is rational, but these look really nicely preserved and I've never seen the 1.5x and the reversing adapter.

Despite having quite a few FF capable lenses I think I'm leaning towards the K-3 replacement when it finally comes out. I am not routinely running into issues with the K-3 that the K-1 seems likely to fix. And the DA 15 doesn't really have a replacement for FF and the 50-135 is so much lighter and easier to handle than the 70-200 that I will only gamble on the K-1 if I should win one - at least at the present time that's my thinking.

The only way I'll have a k1 anytime in the near future is by winning one. However even if I don't get one I am content to help get the chance for someone else.

As a kid and an adult riding only in neighborhoods the helmets make me nuts. I'd love statistics on bike safety in residential areas where the majority of children and casual riders ride. I suspect where they are needed are when there are more significant speeds and congestion.

Is anyone else checking the top ten posters list more than once a day? I find it interesting to see not only who is on the list but the numbers. Some days it looks like an arms race! Some days it seems more sedate. If I'm on the list I feel a bit mixed about it. On the one hand I know I'm helping get us to the K-1, on the other I worry I'm just spouting off too much and people are tired of hearing from me. I try to be relevant and not trite but who knows... does anyone else feel this mixed emotion about posting so much you are on the list?

The panning is a special mode - I'm not sure how to fully get it the way I want. It was just an experiment. I normally use it in brighter lighting. High ISO on that little thing is pretty rough. Noise starts to jump up. And that panning mode is jpg not raw. Some were made in the "steady shot" mode as another experiment. I takes a bunch of photos and you hope it works. LOL. My main shots were just handheld and if you look close the movement is the people on stage -- the drum kit for example is sharp but the people are blurred. This was intentional on some of the shots. I'll try to take a look back however.

Just lightly run your hands over that or perhaps a soft cloth and make sure no flaking is happening. If it is widen the area by scraping off a little more.
