Dang. 4k is low enough to get interesting.. 50mp seems to be enough for anything I want from my raws, I don't think I'd be interested in 100mp raw files, especially storing them. Would definitely love to check out test raws when they land, see how big of a difference is vs K-1

Silky waterfall photos - how to ?

I don't think gaps would matter with water. It matters with star trails, but water just blends beautifully. I've used this technique before, and it always worked out great.

Silky waterfall photos - how to ?

Take a ton of photos (there's a formula somewhere online that allows to calculate how many photos at a given shutter speed would give you a 1s exposure), take them to photoshop (single file, in layers), select all layers, right click - create smart object. Then select the smart object, go to layer - smart object - stacking mode - median (or mean). Should give you silky water, plus whistle clean exposure (noise will be reduced quite a bit).

Ricoh GR3 scroll wheel problem and a solution - not the wobbly dial issue

My cameras are always in the dry cabinet, but I still get that issue after a while. I guess the only cure is to use the camera more often)

I just rotated the wheel a bunch of times, with a bit of force applied. Fixes it for another few months. But yeah, over time the contacts seem to get either oxidated, or I don't know what, gets worse, skips the menus etc.

New GRIII variant (wishing)

The 28 vs 35 vs 50 debate is still going on lol, I bet some people would buy the 50mm version.

Zoom lens would definitely not be as sharp as the amazing lens on the GR cameras. The optics are unreal in that tiny lens.

Plus again, GR heritage is so awesome, they've been pretty consistent with the form factor, doubt they'd want to change it that much (larger/zoom lens).

If Ricoh can't keep medium format alive they should spin it off.

I got my GRIII to carry around with me at all times. However, I would buy MF for the next step in IQ from my K-1. I think MF is the only way to get even more detail and quality than what K-1 offers (every single other FF body on the market would be just a tiny amount of improvement, if any).

Interesting. I don't even need that many lenses, over time with my K-1, I find myself reaching for the 15-30 and one of my fast 50s most of the time. I think I can make due with a very minimal kit with a MF camera, a wide lens, and nice fast portrait lens, and that's about it.

I'm curious if they'll ever steer off the concept behind the GR series. Maybe they can introduce a new line, GR has so much heritage, and I believe it's always been this format right? Compact 28mm, high quality camera.

While it'll be totally rad to see a gr like camera with a zoom lens, I doubt pentax/ricoh has R&D budget.

If I had the money, I'd buy an mf system for sure. It's just way over what I'm willing to pay for a hobby currently.

I think Sony squarely cornered the younger photographer market. I guess unlimited marketing budgets works wonders. My younger cousin is salivating about every new sony body and lens that is announced.

Why bother inventing a box to live in? Just do photography. It's a tool for artistic expression, not science. Unless you're doing documentary work (press etc), do whatever you like, or whatever your client wants. Who cares what people online think, they're just people :)
