I realise this isn't what you're asking for, but it's notable that the M40mm is the lowest rating 'normal' M lens (by some margin), and the M50/f1.7 is the highest...

Analog Film versus Digital Photography

Yeeeeeeeeeeeah...

I love film, I really do. I think probably 98% of my photography over the last three years has been analog. But seriously now, even shooting Velvia 50 on a tripod and being reeeeeally careful, I've never achieved anywhere near the resolution with film that I get from my GR*.

*Of course the GR has a 16mp APS sensor, we're not even talking about the top end FF digitals...

I've had a bunch of trips to Paris and always shot with some variation of 28mm and 90mm primes.

For me it's always a case of take less - see more. Don't get distracted by your gear ;)

Pentax MX - compatible with Zeiss or Leica Glass?

As others have mentioned, there's varoius options to use Zeiss/Leica SLR glass on your MX (some better than others), but I have to ask - why would you want to? One of the great things about shooting a K-mount SLR is all the amazing K-mount glass available.

It's worth keeping in mind that for the price you would pay adapting Leica-R lenses to Pentax-K, you could afford some of the best lenses Pentax has ever made...

Want a 35mm for street photography and have money to spend? Have a look at the Pentax FA Limited 31mm f1.8.

I shot Portra160 quite a lot when I first started shooting film seriously, and looking back through my archives I think some of my favourite 35mm shots were taken with it.

I've ended up using Portra400 more, as it offers the added flexibility of a 400iso film, without any perceptible loss in image quality.

I've always seen the M40mm as a bit of a marginal deal, considering you can get the 50/f1.7 for a lot less money, and end up with a lens which is almost as small, faster and with significantly better IQ...

No, due to the different physical design you cannot use M mount lenses on a Pentax K1000 (or anything else with the K mount).

You can use various third-party lenses on your K1000 as long as they are K-mount , or M42 screw-mount with the appropriate adapter, but old manual Pentax lenses are cheap enough that I'm not sure there is much point.

If you really want a 35mm a good option is the Pentax-M 35mm f2. They're a little expensive but excellent quality.

If you would be happy with 50mm the Pentax-M 50mm f1.4 and f1.7 are both fantastic, easy to find and affordable.

Yeah there isn't any sign (visible or smell) of fungus in the lens, hard case or cardboard box, so it looks like it has been kept away from moisture. I suspect the lubricants have just gummed up a bit...

$100aud ($80usd) - seemed reasonable :)
