AF improvement K3 & 50-135* vs K3 & 70-200* vs K1 & 70-200* for basketball?

Hi,
I'd go with 70-200: its AF a little bit faster than 50-135.
50-135 is, obviously, smaller.
The IQ from both lenses is great.
Another point for K1+70-200 combo is that high ISO from K1 is better than from K3.
Good luck with whatever you select.

K-1 with DFA*70-200 or DFA150-450 Bad connection

Hi,
Unfortunately, I don't speak Swedish. So, my understanding of the issue is that the camera could be moved when the lens is on the tripod.
I had similar problem (I have 70-200). Turns out that when you loose the collar to turn camera to portrait or landscape orientation and don't go all the way in you get this motion.
Now, I make sure that when I change the orientation that it "clicks" in.
Hope it helps.

DFA 24-70 versus primes

Hi,
Like some of the posters here I came from K7/K3 + 16-50 to K-1 + 24-70. So far, I can say that the latter is better.
As for 24-70 vs Ltds, I never compared (I had FA31 and DA70) but I think it holds its own in IQ department. Of course, there're pros and cons on both sides. But for me the 24-70 is what doctor prescribed.

Hi,
For now all online merchants in US have the same price $1796.95. I'm not aware of any coupons or discounts, perhaps closer to the Christmas time.
B&H is one of the best. But be aware they're mostly closed in the next couple weeks due to Jewish holidays.
The lens is great, you won't regret.

Adam,
Out of all lenses you mentioned I have only 2: DFA 24-70 and 70-200. I'm very happy with those. Highly recommended.
I was debating between 24-70 and 28-105 (highly regarded) and settled with the former due to extra 4mm on the wider side and faster constant aperture despite the much higher price.
Good luck and happy shooting with whatever lenses you get.

Yes, I did put the latest f/w in K-1.
As for K-3, I didn't compare K-1 and K-3 with that flash with the same settings. I just remember that I didn't have issue of overexposing with K-3 unless I was too close to the subject.

Hi,
Thanks. I'll try all the suggestions later tonight.
I don't usually use direct flash - most of the time bounce and/or diffuser.

AF540FGZ P-TTL vs A on K-1

Hi,
To answer some of the questions:
shooting in Av
ISO100
F2.8
1/60s
distance = 3-4m (the flash shows effective distance 1.5-20m)
no reflective, white, etc surfaces on the subject
direct flash (no bounce, reflectors or diffusers)
As I mentioned before, all settings are the same for P-TTL and A modes.

The difference between P-TTL and A is about 2 stops.
As Flasher suggested isn't P-TTL supposed to pre-flash to measure and provide more or less correct lighting? BTW, is AF540 flash f/w upgradable?
I mean, I can use A mode or I can find the right settings in M mode and get a more or less good lighting. But why to have P-TTL flash and not use the feature.
Thanks again for all responses.

Hi,
I wonder if something's not right with me, K-1, flash or any combination of the above.
I tried AF540 on K-1. In P-TTL mode it severely overexposes the subject.
In A mode the exposure is great.
Both pictures are taken from the same distance, show the same parameters.
BTW, on K-3 it worked OK.
Any ideas, suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

K-1 combines frames

Hi,
I just got a brand new K-1. Tried with some of the lenses. Everything looked great until I put DA 40. After a few shots it started to combine 2 shots together: shot 1 is OK, shot 2 shows 1+2, shot 3 is OK, shot 4 shows 3+4.
Did I miss something in the settings (I checked HDR is off) or the camera is screwed?
Thank you very much.

Autofocus technique for off-center subjects
Posted By sinus007
Replies: 20

Devorama,
If your intended focus target is the face, not an object behind it, it won't matter if you use a side cross to focus without turning the cam or, if you use center cross to focus and then recompose to have the face and the background object inside the frame - the distance to the face will be the same. Therefore the face will be in focus and the object behind will be blurry. If, OTOH, you want both the face and the object behind to be in focus, then you need to find a "common ground": focus on something in between so both are within DOF or change the aperture.

Thanks for the article, BTW. It's funny that the author, at the end, even provided a proof that hypotenuse is larger than cathetus.

Hi,
Sorry, but I don't understand why you can't use re-compose method with a disabled (AF) shutter release button? Focus at whatever part of the object with the center cross with AF button, re-compose and then shoot.

Hi,
Another possibility is DA 40. It's not that wide and opens only to 2.8 but IQ and size are not questionable.

HSS with K-3

Bdery,
I almost always use Av mode when I switch my AF540 into HSS.
Sometimes it doesn't work, e.g. when I want shallow DOF and it's really bright the flash practically invisible because of high shutter speed.
Of course, as stevebrot mentioned, M is your friend, but in some cases isn't very practical.

Hi,
I'd also look at Asus PB278Q. I recently got one and like it. I don't know how much it goes for in Europe here, in US, it's a bit less than Dell.

K-3 delay when using the flash

Hi,
I'm sorry, my bad. As I found last night (as others suggested) it's the red-eye setting on my K-3 that created that "delay" on my AF 540.
I switched back and forth to confirmed it.
