Not ominous enough - I'd have preferred some dark red accents.

I don't know what do you mean by that... given that I do own the D FA 21mm f/2.4 (which might be the only one sold in Romania). Hope you're not calling me a liar.
Do I put my money where my mouth is? Well, my last purchased lens is the latest Pentax release. I'm an active Pentax customer.

And what's with me not buying every single lens the manufacturer provides?
The D FA 28-105 is a better walkaround lens than the D FA 24-70.
The D FA 150-450 has a longer range than the D FA* 70-200 or the 70-210.
The D FA 21 Limited is lighter and smaller than the D FA 15-30 (OK, I underestimated how long I had to wait for it...).
The D FA* 85, can't justify spending 2,000 euro on that lens - as I'm not heavily into portraiture. I'd rather be saving for the K-1iii.

Me making choices, how does it invalidate what I said?
Particularly since all the lenses in my gear list are - I hope to agree - very much decent products?

And there's a not so small list of lenses.
For someone to get "disgusted" he has to ignore most of what Pentax launched in the last decade, and concentrate exclusively on a small variation of one of these very much decent products.

Not necessarily.
Its problem is that it doesn't support the new AstroTracer. Otherwise, it makes a lot of sense to choose a non-flagship camera: you don't need the K-3iii's speed, and autofocus, for astrophotography.

Thus my wording: it isn't wildly successful.

Perhaps understandably so. I think a good part of the potentially interested base already have a regular, or a Premium Kit K-3iii.

The Jet Black model isn't wildly successful, is it? Nor are the black hotshoes, although I don't quite see their point on a regular camera, and they might resemble too much (at a glance) with the plastic ones.

You aren't :)
I'm aware of using scarcity for marketing purposes; but I don't think that's it. I think the point is to offer series of special editions, perhaps even going as far as customers being able to order customized products directly.

The point is, this is a trial run - using crowdfunding because they don't know if it will work, a small number of units and so on. Making it work globally would increase the costs, would increase the uncertainty (and yes, every aspect must be considered, including service/support). It's not out of spite.
I do hope it will work out well, and that they'd start offering these products globally.

jersey, just a question: which international crowdfunding platform should have they used instead, to make it work globally? ;)

The D FA 28-105 is surprisingly good for its price; I expect the 70-300 will be quite good (though obviously not a high-end lens).

The reason we are discussing this to an exaggerated extent is because of these well intended gentlemen always willing to educate us how Pentax cannot possibly design a lens, thus every Pentax lens must be a Tamron, Sigma, or whatever.

Nope. Although I'd like to forget about it, as Tokina took the beautiful Limited and transformed it into such an ugly thing!

Every single time there is at least one troll claiming that a Pentax lens must be a Sigma or Tamron or Tokina. Once, some dude said a Pentax prime resembles a Tamron perfectly, then exemplified... with the picture of a Tamron zoom.
We need something stronger than someone saying something on the internet (articles included)

By that standard, you shouldn't buy anything because you might get a subpar sample

We do have the patents associated with these lenses: through the viewfinder: Known and Unknown Pentax lens designers and their lenses
I'm not aware of any information that Tokina was involved in the optical design of these lenses.

Nope, it doesn't work like that; if X is a clone of Y, that means X is a duplicate of the original Y, and Y is duplicated by - or cloned by - X.

Saying it's a Tokina clone makes the Tokina the original and the Pentax an exact copy. Which obviously isn't true: this lens was designed by Pentax, and Tokina used Pentax' optical design. Same for every other Pentax lens which was also offered by Tokina, except for the DA 12-24 f4 (which was a Tokina optical design).

It's a DA* 300mm f/4, with nonessential parts removed (rather, excluded/not assembled) - including the K-mount:

They describe these as "A high cost performance series best suited for beginners that provides a bright and clear view.".
Probably they simply meant they're good and less expensive than their top series. Although the text suggests these are luxury products made for beginners ;)

Well, this isn't much but it's nice to know Ricoh Imaging is continuing the line of Pentax binoculars.

The Jupiter series appears to be "cost effective", relatively bright binoculars - but otherwise nothing special. It's more oriented towards beginners.

Oh, and someone should tell them that it's not a good idea to call these binoculars "High cost performance" ;)

Pentax to hold "SLR Meeting" on March 13

I read all those wishes and requests as "I won't pay any reasonable price for a Pentax".
Just days ago, there was this guy on the other forum, who imagined a Pentax L-mount FF mirrorless with a K-mount SLR module, 100% viewfinder and so on (not physically possible, of course). But, no video, and it had to be priced below every other FF mirrorless on the market. TBH he wasn't really serious, but it illustrates the point.

Why are you listening to panic mongers? :p

Why didn't you ask me? I would have told you, yes, the D FA 70-300 will most likely be released, no idea when - so go for the 70-210 and spare yourself the wait :p
