The announcement from dr5 Labs is on their home page:

https://dr5.us/index.html

Perhaps with support from film photographers this unique service can be saved.
Now is the time to send dr5 Labs some BW negative film for reversal processing.

I once owned a couple of Espio Mini/UC-1 cameras with fixed 32mm f/3.5 lens, often said to be Pentax best 35mm point & shoot.
They were pocketable. I believed the hype but over time they proved a disappointment in image quality and unreliable in operation.

I am envious! My first C35 was a pretty black one.
It worked well and gave me nice sharp negs.
I sent it for CLA and never got it back!

IIRC I got cold feet on getting that Konica T4 serviced and gave it away or sold it, along with the 40/1.8 lens.
It might have been due to the reputation of later Konica SLRs as being not very reliable.

I once had a Konica C35 Automatic rangefinder that was a really good shooter.
This time around I will try the zone focus version, the C35v. Less to break!

Next time I plan to try some tape head cleaning pads, presaturated with 99% isopropyl alcohol.
They're similar to alcohol preps only much larger and thicker.
I will add as much Goo Gone as necessary and use the requisite pointy wooden tool.

Now where's Jon Goodman's email address? ;)

Lucky you!

I remember seeing Dave Edmunds live at The Malibu Beach Club in Atlantic Beach NY.
A Dave Edmunds fan site live show list says it must have been Thursday September 23rd 1982.

The band was good but sadly they were not Rockpile...

Rockpile - Now and Always, 1980

You Tube

I recently started replacing some of my old LPs destroyed in Superstorm Sandy.
Rockpile's Seconds of Pleasure is one of the must-haves.

They were truly a "Supergroup"! This was the only studio album released under the Rockpile name.
However all of the Dave Edmunds and Nick Lowe albums from those years feature the same lineup.

A lightweight plastic point and shoot beats any SLR in the pocketability department.

IMO to be truly pocketable a camera must also be lightweight
therefore the Pentax M series, Olympus OM etc are disqualified.

My even smaller Contax T and Petri Color 35 cameras easily fit my coat inside chest pocket
however it is real unpleasant to have those lumps of metal banging against my chest all day...

IMO the best reason to have a good truly pocketable camera is that it allows you to always carry a camera.
Though I like them no SLR is truly pocketable and neither are most rangefinders 35s.

The original Olympus Stylus (model mju 1, with fixed f/3.5 lens) is an excellent pocketable AF point & shoot 35.
A few years ago you couldn't give them away.

I agree with respect to used cameras i.e. give me a used Pentax mechanical model any day.

However Pentax will never make another *new* 35mm film camera; Cosina might (fingers crossed)...

Cosina produced a series of high quality 35mm rangefinder and SLRs with
their Cosina Voigtlander Bessa line discontinued only a few years ago,
prior to renewed interest in film by a new generation of photographers.

Mid-priced when still available new, prices on all models in the line have
risen dramatically in the used market, a testament to their high quality.

Cosina continues to produce new lenses in various mounts.
The M-mount lenses offered are very popular, offering high-quality
precision Japanese optics for a fraction of the cost of Leica lenses.

IMO Cosina is capable of producing a camera at any price point desired.

Quick poll about tripods

I have owned Bogen/Manfrotto tripods with both lever and knob leg locks.
Early on I owned a couple of tripods with the twist type locks as well.

Knob type leg locks are the most secure. By design they compensate for wear.

Watching a leg on your tripod slowly collapse will elicit a feeling topped
only by the sight of your unattended camera toppling over completely.

FWIW the actual standard for domestic power supply in USA is 120V 60Hz.
Most folks say 110V as many older household appliances are labeled 110V.

2 Columbia Roatan Drifter Booney hats
Shorter brim than standard Booney hat
Should be good for birding, photography etc.

These are for my wife and daughter, for their 4-day trip next month to Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge, organized by the American Littoral Society.

I don't expect them to lug around heavy camera gear but I'd love to see some printed photos.
I am lobbying for them to bring their so-far never used Olympus Trip 35 camera.

Manual focus, manual exposure, manual film transport - and affordable (i.e. NOT Leica prices).
No particular brand/model. I would not even suggest which lens mount it should have.

I have no doubt Cosina could do this, if deemed profitable.
I wonder if Kobayashi-san kept any of the old Bessa tooling?

Every summer for several years Dick Dale would play at a local place, The Brooklyn Bowl.
Each year I planned to attend one of his shows. Each year I punked out.

Now I will never see him play live.

Lesson here: Don't put off seeing live music, especially at a small venue.

There are major technical and practical hurdles but this is definitely possible.

Some here will remember the Silicon Film debacle.

To be successful a product like this needed to be marketed by the early 2000's,
before most consumers got in the habit of buying a series of digital cameras.

Fortunately some younger folks are rediscovering film...
