AF adjustment

If you use the User settings on the mode dial, make sure to go through and save the AF Fine Adustment setting in the custom menu to each of the user modes you have set up....otherwise, somewhat surprisingly, settings will remain on the default each time you select the user setting again.

I was also surprised how much adjustment was required with all lenses needing +8 to +10.

Asalerno, I don't have the camera with me but pretty sure from shooting mode you need to press fn button then press OK to get to the image adjustment mode. Use the controller to select your preferred processing, then OK to set and menu to exit. If you shoot raw only the image will save as colour raw but will display as BW if this is what you have set for preferred processing.

Really good stuff! Worse photographers are making good money but as volley says, it's more about the business than talent. If you have a mind to do business, you have some great raw material!

On the bag front, for me, a shoulder bag that doesn't look too much like a camera bag is a good thing. Get one with space for passport etc and it is with you all the time. Crumpler make an outpost series that are strong, innocuous and have a rain cover for tropical downpours.

You might checkout Phonsavan and the plain of jars about 6 hours from Luang Prabang - not for everyone but interesting imo. MAG international put on some sobering movies each night.

I might be missing the point but couldn't you just press the live view button which gives you the electronic level?

In playing around with the BW preset recently, I have noticed that even if you have the camera set to shoot only RAW, you still get a black & white preview/review on the LCD. Presumably then the LCD will show a view that uses whatever processing preset is selected. This makes sense when I think about it but shows you have to be careful about what you take from the LCD.

Have a good think about the light weight tripod, it blows hard for a lot of the year on the coast in West Oz....and if long exposures are on the agenda, heavy might be your mate.

Usually get about 30 seconds exposure in daytime sunlight, at f8, ISO100 with a 10 stop ND if that helps your planning.

To add to this, with a std filter screwed on, you can then attach a Cokin adaptor and use ND grads etc. Easy!

Vignetting!!?! The main concern is that she has broken her left arm on the back swing - there is very little chance of making solid contact from that position! :D

Best Starter lens under $550 Aus

Your interests should dictate where you go but if you are not yet sure, the 16-45 is a great start. Should have enough change for a few filters out of 550 aussie.

The 16-45 combined with a square filter system is a killer starter set up for landscape .... excellent image quality throughout the focal range.

G'day Tom,

You could give CR Kennedy a call. They are Aussie distributors for all things Pentax so should be able to confirm for you.

New DA 16-45mm Distortion?

+1 for take it just off 16 mm, even 17 mm or 18 mm makes a difference, shoot at f8 to f9.5 if quality is your prime concern.

Don't spend too much time pixel peeping at the corners - unless you are printing really big!

Richard - I think you should clean up the darkest corner of your office

It is a strange obsession we have now - how many rolls of 1600+ ISO film did people push through their cameras? Now if a camera doesn't produce clean images at ISO 25600, it should be ditched? It's photography, isn't it?

Stuck a DA 16-45 on the old Super A for laughs. It acts as 16 mm (of course - can't help with techo explanation) on FF which is super wide, and vignets of course but shutter fires fine.

Had a similar problem recently when looking at DA* 300 so asked the dealer to contact CR Kennedy for price match. They dropped $520 off the retail price....and you have local warranty. Made it close enough for me ;)
