Pentax, a forgotten camera brand

Typical U.S street price is only 10% more for the Pentax branded lens with VC image stabilization absent, although not needed. Also, Tamron branded lenses sold in the U.S. include a 6 year warranty versus the Pentax 1 year warranty. The weather sealing seems to be identical on both products. There is, of course, no available alternative for an auto focus 15-30mm F2.8 full frame lens with Pentax mount compatibility. :)

ISO Window Counter

My file format options are set to RAW DNG + JPEG L and my memory card option is set to "Save to Both." As a test, I changed my file format option to JPEG L and now, when I press the shutter release button, the ISO display in the viewfinder temporarily changes to a much higher number than was shown when I was recording RAW DNG + JPEG L. Each subsequent press of the shutter release displays a number that is incrementally one less than the previous. This number matches with the memory card estimated remaining capacity that is shown on both the rear display Status Screen and the rear display Live View. I hope this information helps you.

I can confirm that it is displaying only the active card which my be either slot 1 or slot 2 depending on user settings.

I never noticed this behavior because I concentrate on the scene in the optical viewfinder when pressing the shutter release button. I just now tested it and the ISO does indeed change to temporarily display the estimated number of exposures remaining on the media card. Thanks very much for pointing this out. :)

[Printing] Setting up a color darkroom?

Instead of tray processing, you will be using drums on a motor base. The reason you can't use tray processing is because color paper has to be processed in total darkness. Therefore, you will not be able to see the paper to pick it up and transfer it from tray to tray. With drum processing, you place the exposed paper in a drum, put the end caps on, and then turn the room lights on to do the processing.

You will also need graduates for the chemicals that you will then place in a temperature controlled water bath.

Good luck,

K1 II - best legacy budget lens on the best price to IQ value ratio for the lowest $

If when you write "legacy" you are referring to pre-digital era manual focus, I can definitely recommend the SMC Pentax-A 35-105mm F3.5 Zoom Lens. Check it out in the Pentax Forums Lens Review Database. It is a remarkable lens at an extremely economical price. Now selling in the used lens market at under $100.00 U.S.

As a mid-septuagenarian who spent four continuous months in a hospital ICU following heart bypass surgery, I no longer have the strength to lift a heavy camera backpack and strap it to my back. There are a couple of suggestions that I can make for you.

One is to get a Remin collapsible luggage cart such as the KART-a-BAG Concorde II. This is a well made durable product that can easily roll up and down stairs if needed. It rolls fine on paved surfaces, compressed soil or grassy lawns but does roll easily on surfaces that are covered with large chunks of gravel. I've owned a Remin cart for more than twenty years and never regretted making the purchase.

The other suggestion is to get a Tenba Professional Photo Vest. It has numerous pockets including a long lens pocket. The best feature of the Tenba Professional Photo Vest is its built-in waist belt that transfer the weight of the loaded vest from the wearer's shoulders to the hips. I travel to photo locations with a vast variety of gear in the trunk of my car and then transfer what I need to my photo vest upon arrival. Although no longer manufactured, the Tenba Professional Photo Vest is still available, both new and used, in a variety of sizes from Internet sellers.

I carry my camera around my neck with a wide spongy neck strap and I use a padded shoulder strap to carry my tripod.

I hope you find this information helpful.

Enjoy,

Dennis

Congratulations! The various Kodak technical guide books have a wealth of useful information that is still relevant to contemporary photo technology. I have, and still use, the Kodak Professional Photoguide (Publication R-28) which has similar information to your book but in a slightly larger dimension publication. Although the calculator dials and charts could be converted to mobile device apps, there is no electronic equivalent to the gray card, gray scale and color patches that are included in the R-28 book.

D AC76 adapter

The Glorich D-AC76 replacement product has the correct input and output power specifications. Now that you have confirmed that your camera does indeed have a round shape power input port rather than a rectangular shape, I would say that this is an economically priced option for you. Please note that the Glorich D-AC76 product page on Amazon states:

"Product description
Use Glorich D-AC76 power adapter when downloading pictures to your computer, viewing images on TV, or for extended work at a studio. The power adapter is fully compatible with the following Pentax DSLR cameras:

Pentax K200D
Pentax K100D Super
"

Their description is a guarantee that it will work with the Pentax K100D Super camera.

Although you could do your own research, I think this is the best price that you are likely to find on this product. It has free shipping and, if needed, you can fall back to the Amazon A-to-Z Guarantee. Please see: About A-to-Z Guarantee

D AC76 adapter

From what I found on-line from a variety of sources, the AC input port on the K100D Super accepts a type EIAJ-03 plug. This is what is shown in the Amazon product page that I linked to previously. Are you questioning whether the plug end is "right angle" as shown in the K100D User Manual or "straight" as shown in the Amazon product page? Whether it is "right angle" or "straight" does not matter. The purpose of the "right" angle plug is to help prevent the connection from being accidentally pulled out of the camera. Here is a link to a photo of the Pentax brand K-AC76U Adapter that has a "right angle" plug end": Pentax K-AC76U AC Adapter Kit for Pentax K100D Super Digital Camera

I see that what I am posting is a contradiction to that which PF Member Not A Number is posting about the Hirose plug connector. I do not have any direct personal experience with the Pentax K100D Super. I own the K20D and and K-1 Mark II cameras which both use an AC power adapter with the plug described by Not A Number. However, this is not what I am seeing on the Internet for the K100D Super. I apologize to both you and Not A Number if my research on this subject is incorrect. Could you please post here whether the AC power input port on your K100D Super camera is a "rectangle" shape or "circle" shape?

Thank you.

Ricoh Imaging Will Not Be Exhibiting At WPPI 2019 Conference & Expo

I value the WPPI Conference & Expo for its outstanding classes, excellent print exhibition, fun social events and an opportunity to see up close a vast variety of photography products as presented by the representatives of manufacturers and distributors. The projected attendance at WPPI 2019 is 10,000. WPPI is, of course, geographically convenient for me but this is not a requirement for me to attend. I would attend even if it were held in a distant U.S. city because it is an excellent conference and expo which is directed at a photography market segment that greatly interests me. The NANPA 2019 Nature Photography Summit and Trade Show is also being held in Las Vegas but I will not be attending. I respect and admire many nature photographers and enjoy seeing the photos they produce but doing nature photography is not something that interests me. "To each his own."

Wishing peace and happiness to all.

It appears that you are looking at the AC power cord only, which attaches to the AC to DC Converter that then attaches to your camera. What you need is the complete assembly. Please see: D-AC76 Replacement AC Power Adapter

Ricoh Imaging Will Not Be Exhibiting At WPPI 2019 Conference & Expo

There is no comparison between CP+ and WPPI. North American wedding and portrait photographers are not going to travel to Yokohama to make equipment purchasing decisions.

Not having new product to show is not a reason to abandon an important market segment. Ricoh Imaging has existing viable Pentax products that can be enthusiastically shown to the North American wedding and portrait marketplace.

Frankly, Boris, I sense that Ricoh may be getting close to selling its consumer camera products division. I believe that there are companies with a worldwide photographic products distribution network that could benefit by acquiring Pentax.

Ricoh Imaging Will Not Be Exhibiting At WPPI 2019 Conference & Expo

With the opening of the WPPI Conference & Expo just two months away, I started to prepare my list of expo booths I intend to visit. My search of the WPPI website exhibitor list for "Ricoh" or "Pentax" returned "No Results Found."

Knowing that it is possible that Ricoh may not have yet completed its WPPI 2019 booth arrangements, I sent a message to the Ricoh Imaging Facebook Fan Page (@RicohImagingNA) inquiring if Ricoh is planning on exhibiting at the WPPI 2019 Expo. Here is the response:

"Hi Dennis. Ricoh will not be at WPPI this year."

I am extremely disappointed to receive this response because it signifies that Ricoh has chosen to not have a strong physical presence of Pentax products and brand name identity at the largest attended professional portrait photography show in North America. Ricoh had a very attractive booth at the WPPI 2018 Expo with the word "Pentax" dominantly displayed in large red letters. Not having a Pentax retailer within 280 miles of my home, the Ricoh booth at WPPI 2018 provided me the opportunity to actually hold a Pentax K-1 Mark II with attached battery grip in my hands and get a feel for my comfort of its handling and access to the controls. That was when I made the decision to pre-order the K-1 Mark II which I received in April, 2018.

It is possible that Ricoh will have reps working in dealer booths at WPPI 2019 showing Pentax products and talking about Show Special Pricing. If I see this type of activity at the expo, I'll report back here. The WPPI 2019 Conference is February 25 through March 1. See: WPPI Conference & Expo for Wedding & Portrait Photography

Yes, Lana, test using spot metering and use a gray card as a target with the gray card filling the entire image frame. I just tried this with my Tamron SP AF 70-200mm F/2.8 lens and got accurate metering throughout a range of apertures from f2.8 through f16.
