Wireless Speakers

You may want to look at Apple's Airport Express. I use it to access my iTunes library on my basement computer for listening upstairs. It can easily connect to any powered speakers (I have an Onkyo receiver upstairs). It is very simple to set up and connect to your existing home wireless network.

Nature Otis Declared Brain Dead...

I just read this article in today's New York Times. It states "People say the squirrels are calculating, nut-cheeked saboteurs trying to overthrow humanity. Like the apes in “Planet of the Apes,” or the Skynet computer network in “The Terminator,” the squirrels represent a kind of neglected intelligence that’s suddenly, sinisterly switching on.". This is old news to followers of the exploits of Otis.

I'm not sure which version I prefer. I like the mood of the B&W but I also like the paint highlights inside the boat.

Thanks for taking the time to comment.

baro-nite - I used Nik's Siver Efex Pro 2. I'm not good with the software yet, but it does a really good job.

SpecialK - I did not take a wider shot, but that is good feedback.

I'm amazed the quality given the camera was my "old" Optio-W20. Kind of puts all of the "new is better" thinking in perspective.

The lake was drained pretty low so they could work on the dam. Looking at the size of the pine tree behind the boat, it has been down a while! This was taken with my fishing camera, the waterproof Optio W20. Comments and critique welcomed.

tripods and ballheads - Sirui, Induro (or used Gitzo)

I'm far from being an expert at tripod heads. All I want to say is I don't believe in generalizations. Frankly things can be designed and manufactured well in any country. Conversely things can also be designed and manufactured poorly in any country. The old axiom "you get what you pay for" generally holds true.

My local B&M shop just had a "garage sale" and I lucked into a new Vanguard Alta Pro 283CT set of carbon fiber legs. These have the multi-angle center column. I paired this with a Sunwayfoto FB-36 ball head and L bracket. I only just got this but I have to say I'm very happy so far. I'd recommend looking into Sunwayfoto. Their products received very high reviews and their pricing is reasonable. I purchased from an Amazon reseller OEC Camera who quickly answered all of my questions.

Upgrade K7 or Get New Lens?

Thanks for the input so far. To be honest the most important thing for me is to just get out and shoot more often. I probably should experiment more with the fast FA50.

Upgrade K7 or Get New Lens?

I know there have been several similar threads. I think I've read them all and I am still confused. I have a K7, but have often been frustrated by the low light (hi ISO) capabilities and the AF. I've tried the micro AF adjustment with mixed results. I also have a collection of Pentax lenses DA 10-17, DA 35AL, FA 50, DA 16-45, DA 50-200) that while not the best, represents real money.
I'm intrigued by the smaller size of mirror less systems, but much of what I read seems to indicate a DSLR is the better option.

I'm curious what you would do. Invest in a new camera (K5iis or K30)? New lenses (DA 15, DA 100 macro)? Consider mirror less (NEX)? Do nothing and just take more photographs? Too many options... Since I know people will ask I like to shoot landscapes, family photos, and some activities my kids are involved with indoors in gyms. Thanks in advance.

I very much like this series. It's sobering to see the effects of fighting on the Olympic sites. It's also sobering to consider how long ago this was!

I have attached the original for reference, and will try some of you PP suggestions. This is my first attempt at HDR, so I was anxious for some feedback. After another round of PP I'll post the result. Thanks for your comments.
