For those of you who replace your own pads and seals, what have you found to be the most reliable sources please? Both pre-cut and sheet goods.

Thank you

Pentax K-70 Giveaway Are We Spoiling Our Hummingbird?

Wiley: thank you

Mike: My daughter is the artist.

And, I forgot to answer the K-70 give-away questions.

1. The snap was from a K-50 with a DA 18~135mm

2. Okay. I don't NEED a K-70. Any more than I need my other digitals or my hoard of vintage film cameras.

3. There are occasions when the articulated screen will be quite handy. I have never acted on my dream of celestial photography, and would be excited to play with the Star Stream mode.

We think providing feeder light and heat are pretty basic.

But is the artwork too much?

Remote and glass

I acknowledge this is likely a stupid question, but I'm posting under an alias so I'll only have to endure the derisive hoots here on the Forum.

I'd like to set up the K-50 by the bird feeder, but don't want to sit in the cold, waiting for birds to get comfortable with this stranger in their space.

Using the standard Pentax remote from inside was fruitless.

Any ideas for work arounds?

Thank you

I appreciate the additional advice and input. That particular shot is one of usually a couple hundred at any given meet. I try to capture the whole team and make the shots available to the school for distribution. Not all parents (or grandparents) can make all the meets and we hope this helps a little.

Thanks to all who made helpful suggestions about low light problems. My shots were better at the next meet, but still not good. I have since acquired a nice 50mm f1.8 but will have to wait until next season.

Thank you everyone. I have happily concluded my gear is sound, and I have strategies to address the operator operations. In answer to your questions. . . . . .
1. Yes, I wanted to freeze action.
2. Sport mode (I just discovered) does not override manually set ISO.
3. Snaps were taken late afternoon 5:30 to 6:30 PM
4. Yes, the aperture stayed open for the full second.

Thanks again!

I've been photographing the granddaughter's cross country meets this fall with acceptable results. Yesterday's effort resulted in disappointment. The day was totally overcast and I was shooting mostly in shaded areas, although snaps in open areas were equally troubling. Pentax K-50 with 18~135mm WR set on "action" mode, and using mono-pod. Aperture ranged from 4 to 5.6. Fastest shutter speed was 1/60. Samples below. First and second shots taken under same conditions. Advice please. Equipment or operator? Thank you

My K-50 still works great. Sometimes, however after I've offloaded pictures onto my computer, I get a prompt saying "card not formatted". Tried a different card but it still happens occasionally. Right now this is an inconvenience, but I worry something more serious is going on. Any advice please? Thank you

Thanks again to everyone who helped with my K-01 problem last June. Changing to a fully charged battery didn't fix the problem, but at least made the camera useable. Not so now. My two OEM batteries (8 and 9 years old respectively) test at full voltage. So, confessing to a life-long mental block regarding amps vs. volts, can these batteries be bad despite the voltage readings?

Thank you

Thank you for the tip. The camera battery icon showed "full", but when I installed battery #2, fresh from the charger, the K-01 fired right up. Still acting strangely at times, but at least its working again. I'll experiment further with #1 once charged.

Thanks again!

Dave

Thank you for your reply.

As far as I can tell, "permit the aperture" is not an option on the K-01

AfterPentax

Thank you for your suggestion. As you suspected, C/16 was set to 1. It is now set at 2.

Happily, I can now use legacy lenses (why I originally chose Pentax).

Sadly, the flash still pops up, unasked, on Auto. I mostly use the K-01 for video and moon photography, so it's workable. (Far better than not working at all.)

And, starting this morning, live view does not always come on. Turning the camera off and on a couple times wakes it though.

Thanks again!

K-01 advice please

I was heartbroken several weeks ago when my K-01 went dark after less than . No live display. Shutter not firing. Took it to a local shop and inquired on-line to be advised that fixing, if possible, would be cost prohibitive. Tried everything I could find on the internet. Today I decided to open it up in hopes of a miracle. Removed the bottom plate and came to my senses. Out of habit switched it on, and the shutter fired with the lens off. Closest lens was an old manual, and voila, live view worked. Shutter would not fire. Took the lens off and shutter would. Got a current lens and it worked normally.....sorta. The flash pops up in Auto and Scene regardless of light. It does not pop up in other modes. Video works okay. In manual, however, at f8 and ISO auto, I have to reduce shutter speed to around 1/4 in order to get the same exposure in say, Tv or Av.

I've reset everything to factory. I've downloaded a fresh copy of firmware. Cleaned the lens contacts. Still doesn't work with manual lenses, and works as described above with 18-135mm.

Any ideas please?

I got a Polaris 55~300mm f4.5 in a kit. Just for fun, took snaps of the moon last night.

I have great enthusiasm for doing this sort of thing, but very little technical expertise.

I'm greatly pleased with the image quality in the center, but puzzled by the fuzziness on the outer edge of the moon.

Is it due to:

- over exposure
- other photographer error
- duh, it's an old aftermarket zoom

Thank you in advance
