New Q or Pentax 110 digital with 1" sensor?

I think eventually thy'll have a system above the 645--like the old 67 system. Personally I'd suggest a mirrorless 67 with a registration distance of ~60mm. That way the 645 takes over the studio shooting, while the 67 can venture into the high end wedding & landscape shooting. They'd need a very wide diameter mount to ease the angle of incoming light at the edges of the sensor and I'd advocate for in-lens leaf shutters to minimize body depth and noise. I'd suggest a lense lineup of ultrawide, wide, short normal, and short tele with possible fisheye, macro, and shift specialty lenses. Of course I'd never be able to afford such a system, but it would be the holy grail of photo hounds!

Ricoh want's to go mirrorless? With X-mount/Fujifilm? at least 2 years away.

I was thinking--Bronica had some nice 645 rangefinder lenses. I wonder if Pentax could license the formulas and update the lenses for their own digital version? Bronica had a very advanced, all-electronic, in-lens leaf shutter that would be a nice addition--a bit bulky but slick! I know Tamron (Bronicas owner) doesn't do much with Pentax but perhaps this could be a one off?

Mamiya really set the mark for portable MF cameras. Pentax could do alot worse than emulate the 7II

I think you are exactly right--a MICL would not offer any benefit for the type of shooting and the kind of lenses you use. And although I'n not sure about the effect the relationship between focal distance of lens and the flange distance of the camera has on the overall size of the lens, it sounds plausible to me.

I don't think its quite that simple--much depends upon the design of the lens and what compromises they decide to make in the process. you can have a very compact rangfinder/lens combination if you make compact size one of your requirements. Just look at what Mamiya was able to do with their 7 series MF rangfinder. Now obviously rangfinder != MILC but when talking about flange distance from film/detector its close enough.

IMHO, going mirrorless doesn't make sense unless you go really big--medium format 6x6 big. this way you greatly reduce the bulk and weight of the body and end up with a camera usable outside the studio. MF users often make do with far fewer lenses then smaller format shooters do, so the need to pump out lots of new glass is reduced to a manageable level. Perhaps Pentax could work out a deal with Fuji or Mamiya to license a few of their lens formulas since they don't have much in their design portfolio that would accommodate the short flange distance.

The DA limited is 20-40? and WR?!

I have a 40 mm pancake that I used as a walk around for years. I'm currently using my 50mm 1.6 in that role, but I'd very much like to add an af 28mm in the 1.6 to 2.8 F range. When I use a zoom I like it to be either a very wide angle or cover a broad range of focal lengths--otherwise, I'd just prefer to swap out my prime lenses whenever needed.

true--I guess I'm just an old fashioned prime glass snob. I don't generally mind swapping lenses to achieve the fl I need.

not really seeing the purpose for this limited zoom--its neither compact, fast, nor particularly useful zoom range. About the only thing going for it is the reputation for quality build and WR, might have to pass on this one...
