Not sure how much the flange distance is relevant here. Nikon's ultra short flange distance 20mm 1.8 for Z mount is bigger and heavier than its F mount counterpart.

By the way, I own Zeiss 21mm 2.8 and that's pretty big chunk of glass with 82mm filter thread. If that's representative for the parameters, then DFA 21 should be much slower than that.

I will consider buying DFA 21 only if it's at least a stop faster than the Zeiss and has low coma wide open. I don't think that's going to happen, since Limiteds aren't about aberration correction but the so-called je ne sais quoi; however, I wouldn't mind a surprise.

Sony 20mm 1.8 has 67mm filter and weighs 373 grams. I feel that for the DFA 21, F2 should be achievable.

Prototype SMC 20mm F/1.4 had 77mm

Pancake-like voigtlander color skopar 20mm F/3.5 had 52mm.

I really hope k-1 iii will get the oversized optical viewfinder at least. Its omission will be against the whole principles of Pentax thing.

I would never expect 400/2.8 and 600/4 to be cheap, but is 100/2.8 sky high priced as well?

"Even in the low-light range it works above K1 level, which I find quite impressive."

K-1 is not a bar set high for the AF system, frankly.

I'm too invested in Full Frame, and also, pretty broke at the moment. So no.

This sounds a bit depressing, doesn't it?

But I guess that's just how it goes in the Pentax land.

I guess I just fail to see a point in showcasing a camera under heavy development during the worldwide tournee. With no specs and even the name known at the time. Kinda feels like an afterthought.

Don't remember Samsung (or anyone really) doing something similar with their cameras.

We can always discuss stuff and raise our concerns, but IMO the only thing that matters are sales. Ultimately, we vote with our wallets.

K-3 III had a tournee over the world during celebrations of 100th anniversary of Asahi Opt. Co. That was autumn 2019.
I mean, sure, in 2020 Covid happened and all that stuff that made things complicated; but it still eludes me why the camera needed (at least) 1,5 year since then for a market launch. Especially since Pentax doesn't make that many cameras in terms of volume (the last data I've seen indicates Ricoh/Pentax made around 30 000 SLRs in 2020, Canon 1,7 milion and Nikon 650 000).

Anyway, I agree that complaining about the pace of introducing new products by Ricoh/Pentax isn't really getting us anywhere. I honestly don't think they pay much attention to their userbase outside Japan, as evidenced by their marketing efforts.

Thankfully, that does not mean I can't enjoy using the gear I already have. Will I invest more in the brand? If they come up with something that interests me, sure. If not, I'm not in a rush to spend even more money on already stupidly expensive hobby...

This is a nice image, but I don't see why it's given to back up a claim that Pentax is lagging behind so far, that some pictures are unobtainable with their equipment.

Pentax cameras may not have 100 Mpix at their disposal (no FF camera has that), but they do have Pixel Shift, for example.

I remember that Polish Ricoh/Pentax marketing launched a 'Pentax ambassador' program, with a monthly photo competition and opportunities to become an official ambassador for the brand, if the work submitted to the gallery was good enough.

The gallery is still online, but the last competition for 'photo of the month' has been in April 2020. No news from folks running the site ever since.

This is true, but I'm talking about a trend, not just the current state of affairs. High Res full frame sensors with fast readout are getting cheaper. Few years ago, if you brought an idea of 50 MPix action oriented camera, people would see it as pure fantasy, money no object. Things are changing at mind boggling pace. The more I read about these new cameras, the more I think about buying Chamonix 5x7 or something.

Maybe the Ricoh's strategy so far has been to offer APS-C as an action oriented camera, and FF as a type of a studio/field camera? This however may not be future proof, looking at the emerging trend of high res FF with tons of action features like Sony A1.

Leica makes more things than rangefinder cameras. It's not all about nostalgia there (although it might had been at the time Andreas Kaufmann decided to invest into them).

I certainly hope that it is the case.

However, it's hard to refute that K-3 III is taking its sweet time to arrive on the market, and I'm not exactly sure if we can blame it entirely on COVID-related complications.

I certainly don't envy Ricoh Imaging's management. Times for the entire industry are really though, and the "mothership's captain" statements regarding Pentax don't exactly inspire confidence.
