Ctrl + F should do it, or there's a hand lens icon next to the file menu
At least on the current version

A mild rant

Nobody said 'you' didn't like 'your' shots - but your fellow photographer said that 'he' didn't like 'his'.

That doesn't mean that yours were any better than his - he may expect more from his system; and as we've not seen any of his photos, we're in no position to judge.

You can also set the OK button so it temporarily disables AF; so if you want to your focal point to be somewhere other than at the little red dot it's only one press of a button away.

And this is on the humble K100D Super!

Really? How peculiar. I've never seen that on any of my various cameras (including K100D)

Please help with setting focal length etc

It's not the Focal length that's missing, it's the f-ratio.

Set the options to allow use of Aperture ring
Set the mode to Manual
Set the focus to Manual
Focus until you get the hexagon
Press the AE-L button to program the shutter speed
Take a photo

Delete vs. Format

I download via the USB cable and Picasa which can be set to delete the images when downloaded.

Why would I want to format the card each time?

Pentax K100D Batteries problem

In that case you've probably got a problem with the camera.

You've got a few options.

Take batteries out when the camera's not in use.
Take the camera to a repair shop - you'll probably have to pay for the repair.
Contact Pentax directly and see what they can suggest.

Pentax K100D Batteries problem

I'm not an expert on these things, but I'm pretty certain it's not as simple as that. As well as producing a voltage across the calls, each type has a characteristic internal resistance; and I would be very worried that having mixed cell types could lead to overloading at least some of them.

I wouldn't be surprised if you found that some of the cells leaked when used as part of a mixed set.

And lithium cells may do far worse than leak!

If you are watching this thread still, it's worth thinking about using Picasa (free download). It serves to download files from camera to PC, offers basic (but surprisingly effective) PP facilities (on a non-destructive basis) and acts as a reasonably proficient photo manager.

From what I've read SDHC card support was added with the last firmware release for the K100D,

K100D Super has always supported them.

Pentax K100D Batteries problem

I found a batterys site that explained the self-discharge of NiMh cells as being due to unwanted internal chemical reactions within the cells.

Eneloops (and the very similar Hybrios) are made with a different separator that significantly reduce the self-discharge rates (hence the long shelf life)

I believe they also reduce the voltage dip that you get after a short periods of relatively high discharge, so that annoying thing of the cells being OK if you give them a bit of recovery time, but if you have a busy 5 minutes of shooting they can give up the ghost.

If it flattens 2 sets of batteries even when it's off I think the problem is with the camera (but see my last 2 sentences).

However, I've been surprised how quickly it seems to run out a set of 2500mAh batteries, and noticed that a set of 7dayshop 2800 mAh cells seems to last 3 or 4 times as long. Unless your 2000 mAh cells are Eneloop or Hybrio cells I would expect them to be gasping after a handful of quick shots - but be aware that they will recuperate after a few minutes.
Skimp on reviewing shots on the LCD and they may last quite a bit longer.

Personally I'd give up on the 2000 mAh cells

Have you tested each of the 2700 batteries individually? There could be a problem with one of the batteries, and the other 3 would be OK but are losing out when trying to cope with a dying cell.

Lens "conversion" to dSLR?

The 'magnification of a lens' is a technical term that only applies when directly observing the image at the image plane.

As soon as the image is abstracted from that plane and expressed as pixels on a screen or ink on a piece of shiny paper 'magnification of a lens' formally becomes a meaningless term.

So long as people use the 'technical' definition for 'magnification of a lens' you are indeed correct.

However - nobody ever looks directly at the image on the sensor.

Real people use 'magnification' to mean 'how big does it look through the camera compared to not using the camera', and in that sense, because of the crop factor, a lens on a dslr does have more 'of the thing that most people call magnification' than the same lens on a 35mm film camera.

Both figures quoted by the OP were for 6mp images.

There is a new, better than 'Best', quality level on the K20D called 'Premium'

There seems to be a new 'image quality' setting for the K20D
**** Premium
*** Best
** Better
* Good

K200D tops out at the familiar '*** Best' setting.
