Pentax KX, sound like a good deal for beginner?

I second (or third... :) ) previous folks' opinion on the KX. I think that the only camera better than it is the LX... by a small margin. See my other remarks abou the KX somewhere in the forum.

If you have access to an external USB DVD or CD drive, try connecting it to your computer and try installing the DCU from it.

Two separate Pentax ME Super/ Pentax MG questions

I used to have a Pentax ME-F with a similar issue and got rid of it, because I had no time to work on it. Regarding the MG, I strongly recommend to pause on using 3-in-One and review a good camera repair book (there used to be an European author that published at least 2 good camera repair books in the past decades).

Considering going all-manual on a trip; which meterless film body & lenses to take?

For a truly film meter-less experience, go for a Pentax MX or KX - without batteries and matched FA, F, A, M or K prime lenses and memorize - really memorize - the film exposure table (if you ever learned by heart the multiplication tables, it's no sweat. If not, sweat!) of your chosen film.

I hope you success. As long as you both synchronize on matters of WB, work with a common post-production software or have a way to achieve consistent and harmonious results even using different post-production software, you'll be fine.

Saw a Pentax LX on TV

I vaguely remember either Richard Dreyfuss or Emilio Estevez handling a Pentax LX with a SB1 System Viewfinder and an attached FC-1 Action eyepiece ("Uhhhhhh..!") in a trailer of a movie called Stakeout.

Searching for Split-image screens for Pentax MX

I used to have an MX ("I won't cry...I won't cry.") in addition to my LX and exchanged screens between them for a short time and notice some exposure deviation, but can't remember how far. Otherwise, both focused OK.

Think about a (used) Pentax FA 20-35mm Wide-Angle zoom lens for the FF wide-angle optical end of your kit. Of course, check any reviews of it first.

Nice. This reminds me of the times when I repaired both a KX and a ME-F film cameras. And considering the current state of the economy, it's not a bad idea to add at least 'easy camera and lens repairs" to your skills set.

I was 4/1, but the best course is to keep the best lenses that you can (specially A, F and FA for full-frame).

Be sure that you can see the aperture number in the top of the viewfinder with any K, M, F or even FA lens. One of the beauties of it was a full-information viewfinder. And try changing shutter speeds with just the shooting used to be easy to move up or down the range.

I think Ricoh has it hands full (pun intended :) ) with K-1 FF DSLR camera. Let's hope instead for a price adjustment for it (not likely) or a positive cost adjustment (much less likely).

Is it safe to use an AF-280T flash on my Pentax k-30 DSLR?

I've been using it even for portraits on my K10D. But as others said, don't try TTL: it won't work. And, by the way, review the AF-280T threads for useful camera modes information. Happy flash photography!

I hope you shoot in RAW. If that's the case, try lowering contrast as much as you can and then compensate exposure. If you shoot JPEG, it's more difficult, but if your JPEG software allows it, try something similar.

Another method is to get a slide copier for Pentax K mount that can copy 120 slide film as well as 35mm. A used one may be found in photography stores or pawn shops. Give it a try.

Pentax ME and ME Super Light Meter

My understanding is that the sensors themselves were gallium photo diodes (GPD) for both models, but is possible that the rest of the circuitry was modified in the ME-Super to allow 1/2000 sec. shutter speed and the ability to change shutter speeds manually which was lacking in the ME.

LED not working

I'm still not getting all the facts yet from the posts. Most Pentax cameras with LEDs that use 303/357 batteries belong to the M and A series and the counsel of other posters if the camera in question is from any of those series is sound. As always, more facts can clarify the issue.
