I'd also recommend DaVinci Resolve which is a very comprehensive product, and the free version includes all of the features that you will ever need as an amateur videographer, and much more than that actually.

I often bring my GR when hiking, along with a light tripod, so PixelShift could have come in very handy !

It's a pity ! Is it because 5-axis stabilization is required to perform PixelShift ?

Famous Internet Reviewer Has Good Things To Say About Pentax K-1II

His reviews are almost always unbiased and very thorough.

Following up on his first K-1 II post, he goes on to say that in the right circumstances Pixel Shift is almost a match for the Hasselblad H6D-100C !

"I rate the megapixels equivalent from the 36-megapixel sensor in the Pentax K-1 Mark II in pixel shift mode at an absolute minimum of 50 megapixels, and as high as 90 megapixels when the total quality sum is considered."

I never reallty warmed up to the 24mm focal length, IMHO it's got the drawbacks of an UW focal length without the actual field of view.

I'm leaning towards the 20mm. But I'm surprised that there aren't more user reviews of it !

Yes I would, and I am used to shooting landscapes with 12mm and 14mm lenses on APS-C cameras so I should be quite comfortable with a 20mm lens on FF.

Actually the larger maximum aperture wouldn't be the deciding factor for astrophotography as I'd mainly use medium apertures such as f/4 with astrotracer. I also like to do panoramas so the 20mm seems to be more suited to this use.

I was aware of this concept but din't bother to compute everything, thanks for doing it :).

Btw I also own the Zeiss 28mm f/2, so don't need a zoom lens.

I already came across both reviews, but thanks for pointing them out to me.

I live inside Paris wich appears to be a 9, but I'll try to find M51.

I've searched for Orion without success a few weeks ago, and discovered that it wasn't visible in the northern hemisphere during the summer :(.

Thanks for the very detailed answer.

I'll have to give it one more go with the astrotracer and try the Bahtinov mask focusing technique.

Now I just need to find time and a somewhat dark site !

Hi,

I have a K-1 and a Samyang 14mm f/2.8 lens, which I mainly use for astrophotography with the astrotracer.

I'm considering the Irix 15mm f/2.4 or the Samyang 20mm f/1.8 as a replacement for the 14mm.

They wouldn't have a lot of advantages over the 14mm for astro use as the wider apertures wouldn't be needed thanks to the astrotracer, but quite a few for daytime landscape use : narrower field of view so easier to frame with, less distorsion, better sunstars...

I would like to hear fellow forum members opinions on this matter :)

Thanks,

Mat

Hi,

I have the lens and have tried it for astro recently.

I am more used to astrophotography with wide angle lenses and manual focusing with it isn't very easy so the results weren't breathtaking, but otherwise it is a sharp lens, and a huge bargain compared to the Pentax DA* 300mm F4.

Lonely speck review of the K-1II for astrophotography

Just did :).

I only use DCU to convert PixelShift files into TIFF files before processing them with Photoshop, so I haven't tried to push regular RAW files with DCU. Actually I don't have a lot of faith in the shadow recovery engine of DCU :D.

Actually I've noticed the same annoying magenta tint when the K-1 II files are pushed several stops.

But then I modified their exif info with Exiftool in order to fool Adobe Camera Raw (same demosaicing engine as Lightroom) into believing that they are K-1 files, and the magenta tint disappeared.

So you guessed that right ;).

Pentax K-1 Mark II

1,850.00 USD

Item Description
Hi,

I am selling my Pentax K-1 Mark II camera as I just bought a K-1.

I prefer a slightly less agressive noise reduction on RAW files, and don't shoot sports so the improved autofocus doesn't really matter to me.

The body was bought in April 2018 at B&H Photo and is in pristine condition, with less than 500 shutter actuations.

Comes with its box and all the accessories.

Thanks for looking.

Hi fellow Pentaxians,

The well respected Lloyd Chambers has reviewed the following lenses on the K-1 : DA 35 f/2.8 Macro, DFA 50 f/2.8 Macro and DFA 100mm f/2.8 Macro.

diglloyd - Blog

Speaking about his usual test scene, he says that when using Pixel Shift "The Pentax K1 blows away anything Ive seen on this subject before".
