Enjoyed viewing your galleries for this lens. Many of those macro shots show a nice sense of 3D. Seems like a talented photographer found a good lens.

The issue here is, that older lenses with Pentax K mount were designed for 35 mm film cameras (fullframe). Fullframe cameras have a wider angle of view with of a lens with a certain focal length then APSC cameras (like your K-5). Focal lengths around 16 mm or lower are rarely required or useful when using a 35 mm film or sensor. This means that there are hardly any old lenses which result in a wide angle of view on APSC. There are some A Lenses (15, 16, 20 mm), but they seem to be even more expensive than the Rokinon.

Sorry for the late reply, had a tight schedule.
Are you sure you actually shorted the correct contacts? Repairing it is unlikely, but shorting connections can make it worse.
Activating a switch or button while checking the connection with a multimeter can give you some insights. Start with the Continuity check - it beeps if two contacts are connected with a resistance below a certain value (multimeter specific, see manual). Run the combinations which are nearby of the switch. Use the continuity test only without battery/power or you get false positives.
You can also measure voltage and check how far the supply reaches into the system. Measure with one probe to ground and a connected battery. Ground could be where the black wire from the battery connects to the flexible electronics. A continuity test between this pin to most of the metal frame and screws of the camera should be positive (remember: no battery).
Even if you want to scrap for parts this could be interesting to try.

Do you have a multimeter or similar available to make a continuity test ? You can easily test if a switch is working by getting a probe on each pin.
Also you could measure voltage and check how far the system gets powered if at all. This can however be hard to reverse-engineer without experience and you could accidentally short different signals on the parts with finer pitch.

If you got enough time and battery charge I would suggest leaving it on. It really helps to remove a bunch of noise. As this feature actually does a second exposure with closed shutter it should be able to distinguish between stars and noise. Test it and decide for yourself what results you prefer.
This feature really got me when I was unaware of it while doing lightpainting for the first time. My K-30 didn't show a message at all but only the "busy" light. I thought my camera was damn slow as others had their results way faster. But the results were worth it IMO.

Looks like a good summary to me.
Not sure about the current dedicated Pentax system, but most dedicated systems still communicate settings over a optical wireless connection. The master flash has to signal the settings by flashing multiple times for one picture. This leads to a higher energy consumption than using RF communications. Also the range is limited by the power of the master flash, usually considerable shorther than with RF.

I am not that much concerned about the price but rather about the business model. Also I dont want to have to run a couple of cloud related programs just to work with a single program (Lightroom in this case). I will stick with the perpetual version for now and hope there will be perpetual versions in the future. I would not mind paying a bit more for a (uncrippled) perpetual version.

Some lenses will only close the aperture to the set value, if you activate the aperture lever on the lens. But I dont know what the usual behaviour of the Takumar is.

Thats actually not a solution for me. All competitors I have tested, including comercial and open source, aren't up to Lightrooms feature set. I really like the software. Also I prefer not to take the path of least resistance and rather voice my opinion. I perceived this as a virtue of the USA aswell. Silence gives consent...

The question for me is, whether there will be future Lightroom versions with perpetual license. Also the divided updating is a mean-spirited move IMO. Some have noted one obvious motivation for the company: money. However I disapprove the "sink or swim" approach, which sadly is quite common.

Just got me a GR and love the handling and customization options. A note: The focallength is 18.3 mm and thus 28 mm equivalent.Good for scenic shots. Still have to test it on people though.
Due to the leaf-shutter I can (optically) sync with a slave flash down to 1/400th s and effectively use flash in daylight.
However I am worried about the dust issue aswell...

Those specs are certainly fast enough for image editing. You will notice the largest change from your old PC if your new one uses a solid state disk for storing operating system and programs (one of the bottlenecks marcus mentioned). An inbuilt SD Card reader could also be handy.
My monitor is a Dell U2415 now and I am quite satisfied with it. Got no experience with iPads or tethering though.

An advice if you have more lenses: You can save a lot of money by using step-up rings for filters. Buy only filters for your lens with the largest filter size. With step-up rings your lenses with smaller filter size can use those too.

I dont like the attitude that Adobe shows with their business decisions. After introducing the Cloud model they backpaddeld and said there will always be a "boxed" version of Lightroom. Looking on the product page of Lightroom now, it is rather hidden with everything focusing on the Cloud Version. The update policy shows that Adobe wants to force their customers into the subscription model to increase dependency.
Value wise the subscription is good for everyone who regularly needs up to date photoshop and lightroom. As a hobbyist I will update soon to Lightroom 6 after nearly 3 years of Lightroom 4. The subscription model would have led to more than tripple the cost I will pay for this. As soon as I find a proper alternative I will change as Adobe does not show respect to their customers. You should bind customers to your products and services by quality rather than dependency and market power.

A pity that there is no software option to trigger external flash at any speed... As long as it would not be on by default it would not hurt the unimformed but would enable so many possibilities for the knowing.

Maybe try again and set the one switch which currently is on TTL to M. My guess would be that this is for manual.
