Panasonic don't publish their camera sales figures, Mistral75, as you've pointed out, and they're the ones I really want to look at I see way less Panasonics around than Olympuses!

Perhaps you really meant Jean Sibelius and Ernest Bloch, GR!

Although if he was very sincere, it would be earnest Ernest Bloch. :)

Well, they've brought it on themselves. The economy and its firms have underperformed for a couple of decades now.

Moving manufacturing offshore to what was at the time a backward South Korea just kickstarted that economy and built Samsung and LG up into rivals of Sony and Panasonic.

It's not a mystery, Wasp, noone but you or I wanted to be seen dead with the things. :)

Their Android cameras sold just as badly, a cautionary tale to people who say all a successful camera has to do is resemble the phone people already own.

Sure have, Swip!

But of course, it's all about the feet. :)

Lenovo were the factories that were making the PCs, servers and notebooks for IBM, so essentially they were buying the right to sell what they were already manufacturing.

Hasselblad was bought by the drone manufacturers DJI.

It will be hard for due diligence to approve acquiring a camera company external consultants would always ask, 'Why would you buy a failing firm in an industry that is in overall fall and is not expected to rebound it will continue to drop for a number of years to a 'floor' of pros and enthusiastic amateurs'?

Yeah, if the sun's shining directly on the plane from where you're standing, JPG's fine, but if it's backlit it'll be underexposed and need to be lifted in post, so RAW's the way to go to try to keep the sky from blowing. :)

Yeah, if the sun's shining on the aircraft you won't need RAW, but if it's backlit it will be underexposed and have to be raised in post. :)

Well, all suburbs are in cities, Craig! :D

I've seen them in Royal Park, North Carlton, along the Merri Creek in Fitzroy, Fawkner Park in South Yarra. They just need the trees.

Thanks, Tony, the K-1 meant that I was happy enough to shoot at ISO 1600, if it was my K-S2 I'd probably have to stay at ISO800 and do this at 1/250s, I'd rather not, it's a living thing, not a statue! :)

They do okay in cities, too, you can see them occasionally up on power lines, just watching. Nocturnal, but they're not raptors, they're more like flycatchers/nighjars.

This is Healesville Sanctuary, PJ … I've seen plenty in the wild - big ones, and in good numbers too - but they've always flown away real early before getting a decent pic.

I think we photographers all understand it's their camera division, or it wouldn't be posted here in a photography forum as news, Mistral.

The link I provide explicitly says 'Imaging Division'. :)

I also point out that it's just a rumour, no doubt helped by the appearance of three new board members courtesy of ValueAct.

This is so sad, happening to an icon. The first camera I ever used was my dad's 35mm Olympus.

A good publicity officer will welcome and encourage all sources of images including getting them from the public, but if it's going to ruffle feathers, I guess it's counterproductive. :)

I drowned my K-S1, but really enjoyed it for both its extremely small size and its excellent image quality - 20Mp with no AA filter. To replace it, I bought a K-S2 off Sandy Hancock, which is my current APS-C Pentax of choice.

I think if you're only shooting up into the sky with a telephoto, you're missing out on the chance for great shots on the ground with a wide or ultrawide. Here are the DA 55-300 and DA12-24 with a K-S2:

The benefits to some of a realtime, lagless optical viewfinder not throwing up a series of JPGs to the eye were laughed at by some when a Ricoh executive said it, but when Canon say it too :)

If true, this is a tragedy for all lovers of cameras and history. This is a company that started in the same year as Asahi Optical. Being all-in on mirrorless has not helped them, just like Samsung before them.

What a shame, since they have you as an asset - and as you say, some of your work appears in their publicity.

If they have a social media manager, you should 'hit them up' and get him/her to pull strings so that you can get shots for their Instagram feed or whatever. This is benefiting the zoo! :)

Nicely done! You should ask if you can accompany occasionally some of the keepers so that you can get shots from inside enclosures!
